Supergirl HBO Max Streaming Release Date Set for Controversial Milly Alcock DCU Movie

HBO Max has announced the streaming release date for DC Studios’ Supergirl. The movie’s streaming debut comes just two months after its theatrical release on June 26.

Supergirl will begin streaming exclusively on HBO Max on Thursday, September 10, 2026, while debuting on HBO linear on Saturday, September 12, at 8 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, an American Sign Language (ASL) version of Supergirl, performed by Catalene Sacchetti, will also stream exclusively on HBO Max the same day.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl is the second film in James Gunn’s DC Universe and a part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. It stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, Superman’s cousin. The movie follows Kara across the galaxy as she seeks revenge against the villain who hurt her beloved dog, Krypto.

Alongside Alcock, Supergirl also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa, with David Corenswet reprising his role as Superman.

Supergirl was a box-office bomb. The film grossed $126.4 million worldwide against a $170–186 million production budget, failing to break even (via Box Office Mojo).

The movie was projected to earn between $40–55 million during its opening weekend from 3,600 theaters across the United States and Canada. However, it debuted to just $38 million domestically and $68 million worldwide. The second weekend further saw a drastic 76% drop in its already disappointing box-office numbers.

Furthermore, Supergirl received mixed critical reviews and currently holds a 53% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and a 72% on the Popcornmeter.

Meanwhile, Milly Alcock is set to return as Supergirl in DCU’s upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, on July 9, 2027.
