Both actors portray John Stewart’s parents, John Stewart Sr. and Bernadette Stewart, in the DCU HBO series. As of now, HBO, DC Studios, and Warner Bros. TV have not determined the show’s future.
Nicholson voiced strong optimism regarding a second season, pointing to impressive early ratings. He declared, “Come on, 9.3 million in three days? We’ve got to get a season 2.” The actor then outlined several narrative threads he hopes the series will pursue going forward.
Specifically, Nicholson wants the series to delve into his character’s path toward growth. He shared, “I would just love to see more of John Sr.’s redemption story, and to see how he shows up in the world.” Beyond that, he expressed curiosity about the evolving parent-child relationship. He added, “I would love to see his relationship with a teenage John, what that might be like.”
Nicholson further raised a compelling dynamic involving his character and Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan. He remarked, “Hal robs him twice, and it’s really like, ‘Man, that’s crazy.’ Where does that go?”
Jones in turn spotlighted Bernadette’s intensity as fertile ground for deeper storytelling. She explained, “There’s something inside her that is like a raging fire. She’s so fiery, and I’d love to explore more of that.” The actress also referenced a particular moment that demonstrates her character’s resilience. She recalled, “She takes the gun from John Sr. and immediately unloads it with little John strapped to her.”
