Gal Gadot has given a disappointing update to fans looking forward to her playing Wonder Woman in the DC Universe. The actress is the first to play Wonder Woman interacting with both Batman and Superman in live-action cinema. After her last appearance as the character in The Flash, Gadot’s future as Wonder Woman has been uncertain following the launch of the new DCU.
In a new interview with ScreenRant, Gadot suggested that her time as the Amazon warrior has come to an end.
“This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it’s going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character,” said Gadot. “And I’m just grateful that I was granted the opportunity to wear her boots and celebrate this incredible character and everything she stands for.”
How many films did Gal Gadot appear as Wonder Woman?
Gadot first debuted as Diana Prince in the DC Extended Universe’s second film, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Following that, she reprised the role in 2017’s Wonder Woman solo film, Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984, Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, and The Flash. In total, Gadot appeared as Wonder Woman in six films, discounting Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which was released in 2021. The character also appeared in the season one finale of Peacemaker, although Gadot was not on set herself for the cameo.
Critics and audiences have generally praised Gadot’s portrayal of the character over the years. A third Wonder Woman film with director Patty Jenkins was in development, but has since been quietly canceled. A new actress will play Wonder Woman in the DCU, with fans expecting her to appear in Paradise Lost, a TV series currently in development exploring the history of Themyscira.
The DCU’s Wonder Woman film is being written by Ana Nogueira, who also wrote 2026’s Supergirl. The film currently does not have a director attached to it, nor does it have a release date.
