A new rumor suggests that Odin could return to the MCU to help Thor. The claim comes from insider James Mack’s X post. He wrote, “Odin will help Thor by sending an army and granting him a completely new power.” The rumor does not reveal when this will happen. With Thor confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday, the film could very well feature this development.
The claim came in response to a follower asking Mack whether Thor would gain the Odinforce or become Rune King Thor. Mack neither specified what new power that would be nor did he clarify whether Anthony Hopkins would reprise his role as Odin.
Odin died during the events of Thor: Ragnarok. Before his death, he reunited with his sons Thor and Loki in Norway and warned them about Hela. Although the character has not appeared in the MCU since his death, Odin has remained an important part of Thor’s story.
What Odin’s return could mean for Thor’s MCU future
Odin’s involvement could push Thor into a new stage of his MCU journey. The Asgardian God of Thunder has gone through several major transformations throughout the franchise. He has wielded Mjolnir, gained Stormbreaker, and discovered the full extent of his lightning abilities. But receiving a new power from his father could make him considerably stronger ahead of the Avengers’ next battle against Doctor Doom.
The rumor also raises questions about the Odinforce. In Marvel Comics, the Odinforce is an incredibly powerful energy source connected to Odin. Thor has also used it in some comic-book storylines. However, Mack’s post doesn’t confirm that the Odinforce is specifically what the God of Thunder will receive.
For now, fans should not treat the claim as confirmed information. It is only a rumor, as Marvel Studios has not announced Odin’s return or confirmed that Loki’s brother will receive a new power. If true, however, it could set up a major new chapter for the God of Thunder.
