One Piece fans just got the answer they’ve been dreading and hoping for at the same time. The manga’s creator finally addressed the series’ ending timeline with a surprisingly clear update.
Eiichiro Oda confirms One Piece won’t end before the next decade
Eiichiro Oda has confirmed that the One Piece manga will continue for more than four additional years, according to OtakuKart. The announcement came during One Piece Day 2026, held on August 23. This update pushes the series’ expected conclusion to at least 2030 or potentially much further.
Two major film projects also received reveals at the same event. One Piece Film: God Valley arrives in summer 2027 and adapts the famous God Valley Incident from the manga. A second film titled One Piece Film: BAAD follows in 2029 with Oda’s direct creative involvement.
Oda reportedly designed the title poster for BAAD himself, signaling deeper participation than previous franchise films. The movie appears to function as an original story rather than an adaptation of existing manga material. Its 2029 release window further suggests the manga will not wrap up before that date.
Multiple unresolved storylines still demand significant page time before any ending becomes feasible. The Straw Hats must uncover the Void Century, reach Laugh Tale, and discover the truth behind the One Piece treasure. The final war and several other major plot threads also remain completely open.
Oda’s editor Naito previously addressed the timeline during an interview with Oricon. “Honestly, when I heard Mr. Oda’s plans for the future, I couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Will this be finished in five years?'” Naito said. He added that he believed Oda could meet any deadline he personally committed to.
However, increased breaks and expanding involvement across live-action adaptations and films have shifted expectations considerably. Many fans now believe a realistic ending window falls closer to 2032 or 2033.
