Spider-Man is reportedly joining a surprising team in Avengers: Secret Wars. According to James Mack’s Patreon report, the lineup will include Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Reed Richards, Black Panther, Thor, Vision, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, and X-Men icon Jean Grey.
The reported team combines some of Marvel’s biggest Avengers and Fantastic Four characters with a major mutant. If true, Jean Grey’s presence could hint at a much bigger role for the X-Men in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. Marvel has not officially confirmed the team yet, so her reported role is just a rumor for now.
Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to unite heroes from across the MCU, with Dr. Doom as its main threat. According to Comicbookmovie.com, Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige recently discussed the importance of the Secret Wars comic storyline for Marvel’s upcoming films. He praised the comic’s storyline, saying, “They invent something entirely new, seamlessly picking up where the old universe left off, but branching out in all-new, all-different directions.”

Feige noted that Marvel took a similar approach with the MCU, stating, “We pick and choose from Marvel’s rich, nearly 90-year comics history and make movies that honour the source but become something entirely different.” He added, “That cycle continues as we head toward the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s own version of Secret Wars.”
The Marvel Studios president further described Dr. Doom as the “centrepiece” of the film and explained why the character is crucial to the story. “On one hand, [Doom is] noble and loyal. He’s true to his word. But he’s also a monster,” Feige said. He added that Doom “seeks power over all things” and will use whatever means necessary to achieve his goal. Feige also emphasized that “there is no Secret Wars without Doom.”
The reported team, including Spider-Man and Jean Grey, reflects the massive scale Feige has teased. With characters from different Marvel franchises reportedly joining the fight, Secret Wars could be one of the MCU’s biggest crossovers yet. Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2027.
