Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Bass X Machina, an upcoming action-packed series that takes place in a steampunk setting and tells the story of the bounty hunter Bass Reeves. Brian Tyree Henry, whose previous credits include the Spider-Verse movies and Atlanta, is portraying the titular main character.

The Netflix animated series Bass X Machina has revealed its first trailer, which showcases its stunning animation and amazing action sequences and teases an intriguing storyline. In it, Bass introduces himself as a bounty hunter and notes, “Out here, you do whatever you have to do to survive.” The trailer also seems to underscore that Bass is an antihero in this show, for whom survival is paramount over everything else.
Studio Mir, the South Korean production company that also worked on projects like Devil May Cry, My Adventures with Superman, and X-Men ’97, animated Bass X Machina. LeSean Thomas (Yasuke) created the series.
Besides Henry, the voice cast also includes Tati Gabrielle, Cree Summer, Currie Graham, Chaske Spencer, and Starletta DuPois. Further, Henry and Thomas executive-produced the series with Jennifer Wiley-Moxley and Chad Handley.
Additionally, the logline for the series states, “In a lawless Steampunk West overrun by brutal outlaws, machines, and supernatural terrors, a father is forced to become judge, jury, and executioner—knowing that every act of justice meant to protect his family may ultimately cost him the very people he’s fighting to save.”
Notably, the central character is most likely a loose adaptation of the life of real-world Bass Reeves, a 19th-century and early 20th-century US Marshal, gunslinger, and farmer. He has inspired countless iterations in pop culture across TV, movies, video games, comic books, and theater. Recently, David Oyelowo played Reeves in Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ series Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
Bass X Machina debuts on Netflix on November 3, 2026.
