Canceled Harry Potter TV Show Would Have Told a Very Different Story Than HBO Max’s Reboot

A canceled Harry Potter TV show would have reportedly revealed some interesting facts. And it would have been very different than what HBO Max’s Harry Potter reboot has to offer.

Currently, production for HBO Max’s Harry Potter reboot is in full swing. Surprisingly, this was not the only Harry Potter TV show that HBO Max had in mind. According to an exclusive report from Knight Edge Media, the production house wanted to move forward with The Marauders. Fans of Harry Potter are already well accustomed to the Marauders. Harry and his friends could be seen using the Marauders’ map multiple times in J.K. Rowling’s novels.

However, the canceled TV show’s plot would have been different than that of Harry Potter. Instead of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, the story revolved around a secret group of wizards, namely James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin. It also states that these wizards played a pivotal role in trying to defeat the Death Eaters and Lord Voldemort during the First Wizarding War of the 1970s. Additionally, these Wizards further joined the secret group known as the Order of the Phoenix, which was overseen by Hogwarts’ headmaster, Professor Albus Dumbledore.

What happened before the Marauders project was scrapped

Per the update, HBO Max had already hired a group of writers for the show. They even created the series bible. Additionally, the scripts for the first three episodes were completed when the CEO, David Zaslav, canceled the project and brought the Harry Potter reboot into existence instead. Following the announcement, many writers were surprised. While most of them were preparing for pre-production, the announcement took them aback.

Currently, there is no confirmed news about whether HBO Max will consider moving forward with The Marauders in the future. As for the Harry Potter reboot, the heavily hyped show is scheduled for a December 25, 2026 release on HBO Max.
