Fans now know when to expect the next chapter of Darth Maul’s story. The D23 panel for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord announced the release date window directly from the creative team. Given the franchise’s upcoming milestone celebration, the timing of the announcement feels entirely predictable.
When is the Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Season 2 release date?
Matt Michnovetz, head writer and executive producer, confirmed during the panel that Season 2 of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will release in 2027. He kept the reveal brief, telling the crowd to “Get ready for it.” The panel video soon circulated online, generating immediate buzz among fans of the animated series.
Lucasfilm has packed the early months of 2027 with major releases. Ahsoka season 2 drops on January 20. The original Star Wars movie returns to theaters on February 19. Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy’s Starfighter launches on May 28. A new Luke and Leia novel, Twin Crossroads by Beth Revis, arrives on April 6. With that schedule, a second-half release for Maul – Shadow Lord makes the most strategic sense. Disney can sustain the anniversary momentum by spacing out its biggest titles.
Season 1 followed Maul as he rebuilt his network during the early Imperial era. Sam Witwer voiced the former Sith Lord, who sought revenge against Darth Sidious. The finale saw Maul escape Janix with help from Dryden Vos, voiced by Scott Whyte. In exchange, Maul agreed to help Vos seize control of Crimson Dawn. Canon already establishes that Maul eventually leads the syndicate with Vos as his right hand. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Season 2 will likely show that rise, or at least the critical first steps.
Looti Vario, voiced by Chris Diamantopoulos, remains one of Maul’s few surviving allies. He will probably continue serving out of fear rather than loyalty. Additionally, the relationship between Maul and Devon Izara adds tension. Gideon Adlon voices Devon, who agreed to let Maul train her. She does not know he allowed Darth Vader to kill Jedi Master Eeko-Dio Daki, voiced by Dennis Haysbert. If Devon learns the truth, her path toward the dark side could accelerate.
Season 1 ran ten episodes, released two at a time. Disney has not confirmed whether Season 2 will follow the same format.
