MGM+ has released the official trailer for its upcoming A Tale of Two Cities adaptation. Based on Charles Dickens’ 1859 novel of the same name, the drama series is led by Game of Thrones star Kit Harington.
A Tale of Two Cities premieres on September 6 on MGM+. Set in 1782 London during the war between Britain and France, this four-part historical drama promises a gripping tale of love, redemption, and sacrifice. The series adapts the best-selling English-language novel of all time by Charles Dickens.
The trailer for A Tale of Two Cities begins with the iconic opening lines of the novel, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times… It was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” The video goes on to feature a medley of some dramatic scenes from the series, introducing viewers to the lead cast.

The story of A Tale of Two Cities follows Lucie Manette, a young woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when she receives a message from Paris that her father, long assumed dead, may still be alive.
When the messenger, French émigré Charles Darnay, is arrested, Lucie seeks help from a young lawyer, Sydney Carton. She hopes to set Darnay free so that he can help find her father in Paris amid the French Revolution. What follows is a complex love triangle as the trio’s lives are forever intertwined through tragedies, triumphs, and a murder.
The series stars Kit Harington as Sydney Carton, François Civil as Charles Darnay, and Mirren Mack as Lucie Manette. Additional cast members include Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Yannick Renier, Fehinti Balogun, Barry Aird, Roxane Duran, Theo Costa-Marini, and Guillaume Gallienne.
A Tale of Two Cities is created and written by Daniel West. Meanwhile, Hong Khaou and Richard Clark serve as directors. The series is a co-production between Federation Studio France and Thriker Films, for MGM+ and the BBC.
