A new update on the DCU’s upcoming Booster Gold series may give fans some much-needed hope. The upcoming series had entered limbo after DC Studios rejected writer David Jenkins’ submitted script. However, DC never officially said it had canceled the series, and it appears the show may yet come out just fine.
According to a report from The Ankler, DC is still moving forward with Booster Gold. The series remains in development and is reportedly seeking a new writer. DC has yet to officially comment on the matter. According to the report, DC’s plans for TV have shifted, with several projects getting shuffled.
What will the Booster Gold DCU TV show be about?
Following its announcement in 2023, DC Studios hired Jenkins to write the series last year. The series will follow Michael Jon Carter, a “loser from the future” who travels back into the present and masquerades as a superhero.
Booster Gold uses future technology to attempt heroic feats. As DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn said at its announcement, the series is “the superhero story of imposter syndrome.”
Booster Gold has been played by several actors on screen before, though he has never appeared in a live-action feature film or a solo TV series. He was previously played by Eric Martsolf and Ross Douglas on Smallville. A different version of the character, called Mike, was featured in the CW show Legends of Tomorrow, played by Donald Faison in its finale.
Following its announcement, DC has kept mum on its development status, with some fans believing it was canceled recently. DC Studios continues to develop other projects set in the DC Universe. It has not officially announced which actor will play the superhero on the HBO Max show.
DC Studios’ next major release is Lanterns, the 8-episode series that will introduce audiences to John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Following that, Stewart will make his big-screen transition in the feature film Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
