Why Fans Think Jake Sully Could Die in Avatar 3: Fire and Ash

Multiple reasons have led fans to speculate that Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) might die in Avatar: Fire and Ash. In the upcoming sequel, tensions grow in Pandora when Jake and Neytiri’s family comes across the hostile Na’vi tribe, the Ash people. With the movie set to be out in a few months, fans worry about Sully’s fate. Here are the reasons why they think his story will come to a close in the third Avatar outing.

Will Jake Sully die in Avatar 3: Fire and Ash?

It remains unclear whether Jake Sully will die in Avatar: Fire and Ash. But there are several hints that suggest he might meet his end in this sequel.

Viewers think that Jake’s conclusion makes sense, given that he has fulfilled his job by taking them through the world of Pandora, which is now well-established. This opens the door for makers to explore other characters, such as Kiri, and focus on new stories of future generations.

Another reason is that Quaritch seems to be on his redemption journey and might join the Na’vi tribe. This is because of his son’s connection to Jake’s family and Pandora at large. Jake’s demise could become a turning point for him to shift to the good side. However, some fans have also predicted Quaritch’s fate. One fan said, “I really think we’re at the point where Jake is gonna die but Quaritch will die with him.”

Additionally, Avatar 3 and 4 were shot together to keep up with the ages of the actors. As time passes, Jake will age fast and become weak. This will lead his kids to take on the fight instead of him. So, it makes sense to end his story here and pass on the legacy. Even if he dies, Sully could still live through the life force of Eywa, guiding others even after his death.

Additionally, Cameron also explained what the title of this sequel represents in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes last year. He revealed that Fire represented “violence, hatred, and trauma,” and Ash represented “grief.” These negative connotations further suggest that Jake might meet his end. But if it actually happens in the movie or not will be revealed when Avatar: Fire and Ash comes out on December 19, 2025.
