The Academy Snubs The Hulk and X2

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this morning announced the nominees for the 76th Annual Academy Awards (see complete list) and unfortunately both Universal's The Hulk and Fox's X2: X-Men United were not nominated for Visual Effects.

Instead, the Academy chose to go with "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World," "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King".

Luckily there will be some kind of comic book presence at the Oscars, as the Harvey Pekar film American Splendor got nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.

The awards will be presented on Sunday, February 29, 2004, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland and televised live by the ABC Television Network at 5 p.m. PST, beginning with a half-hour arrival segment.
