Bryan Singer Interested in More X-Men

by SuperHeroHype

Bryan Singer said Sunday he’s interested in making another “X-Men” movie and has discussed the possibility with 20th Century Fox, according to The Associated Press.

“I’m still looking to possibly returning to the ‘X-Men’ franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it,” the X-Men and X2: X-Men United director said at South Korea’s Pusan International Film Festival. “I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast.”

Singer said the “X-Men” series is about tolerance and social structures. He said he likes to “trick audiences into thinking they’re seeing fireworks, but they’re learning about themselves and listening to what I have to say.”

“The excitement about working in science fiction and fantasy is — the stories, if they are good, are about the human condition,” he added.

Palmiotti Wants Silverman for The Pro

by Edward Douglas

In 2002, Image Comics released the prestige one-shot “The Pro” by writer Garth Ennis and artists Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti, a hilarious book about a prostitute who gets superpowers. Although the creators had been trying to get an animated series based on the character off the ground, the book’s inker Jimmy Palmiotti now mentions on his Blogspot blog that those plans have stalled, but that they’re now looking into doing a live action version of the character.

Palmiotti’s first choice to play the lead role is comedienne Sarah Silverman, and he’s posted a couple hot pics of Silverman in various poses and states of undress on the blog as proof that he thinks she has what it takes physically, as well as the undeniably sassy sense of humor her fans love, to pull off such a role.

This is the first word of such a project being in development and though one presumes they creators will still need to pitch the idea to a studio or production company and there’s a long process involved with getting a movie like that off the ground, getting Sarah Silverman attached sounds like a good way to get a project like this moving forward.

If you’ve read the original comic book and are a fan, let us know what you think of the idea of them making a movie based on it starring Silverman.

Kurtzman and Orci on Cowboys & Aliens

by SuperHeroHype

Star Trek and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci talked briefly to ComingSoon.net about adapting the graphic novel Cowboys & Aliens with director Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. in the lead:

On collaborating on their next film, “Cowboys & Aliens,” with director Jon Favreau:

Kurtzman: It’s the greatest.

Orci: We just started and we’re getting along really well. We actually sent ourselves back to school and we’re watching Westerns together, analyzing them, and just kind of getting into it.

Kurtzman: Yeah, we had a lot of these Westerns in our heads but Jon is an incredible fountain of Western knowledge.

Orci: “Star Trek” was pitched originally as a space Western anyway. So “Star Trek” was a nice lead up to this project.

Kurtzman: I think also that Jon comes from a very similar emotional place. Because he’s an actor and he knows what plays and what doesn’t play very quickly. We’re having an unbelievably good time working with him on that.

Anvil to Rock Out for The Green Hornet!

by Edward Douglas

In a story about the official start of the Oscar push for Sacha Gervasi’s documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, L.A. Times reporter Pete Hammond mentions that the band recently shot a scene for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s take on the pulp hero The Green Hornet, currently shooting with director Michel Gondry at the helm.

There’s no mention whether the band will be playing themselves, but the scene they filmed has them playing in a club before they…. SPOILER ALERT!!

“literally explode.”

Of course, the appearance of Anvil does raise a lot of questions about the time period in which the movie is set, because the original Green Hornet mainly appeared from the ’30s through the ’60s on a series of radio shows, film serials and a television show before disappearing, and the band’s music would seemingly indicate a more modern approach to the character.

In fact, it’s rather apropos for Anvil to be involved since they themselves fell off the map in the mid-’80s only to have their career resurrected in a big way when Anvil! The Story of Anvil premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year and after a successful tour across the country earlier this year in which the band played a short set following a screening of the movie, the band was asked to open for AC/DC on their recent summer tour, including a show in front of tens of thousands at the enormous Giants Stadium. Anvil’s 13th record, “This is Thirteen,” was rereleased by VH-1 Classic Records on September 15 and the band is about to head out on their own headlining tour.

As far as their most recent movie appearance, you can see how it all turns out when The Green Hornet opens on December 22, 2010. Meanwhile, Anvil! The Story of Anvil was just released on DVD earlier this week and you can order it from Amazon.com.

Let us know if you’ve seen the Anvil doc or seen Anvil play live and what you think of their inclusion in the already quirky “Green Hornet” movie.

UPDATE: Roven on What Happened to The Flash

by SuperHeroHype

With the recent announcement that Warner Bros. had created DC Entertainment, the company was said to be taking back some of long-gestating projects back from producers to star anew. IGN talked to The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven, who says The Flash is one of those films:

“I was involved at one point with The Flash,” said Roven. “And Warner Bros. came to me and said, ‘The work that you’ve been doing hasn’t yet resulted in something that any of us, including the filmmaking team, feel could be greenlit as a movie. We’re trying to accomplish something that takes into account the entire, rich DC character world, and we’d like to pull it back. That doesn’t mean that you aren’t going to be a part of it. We just want to take a different kind of approach. Do you mind if we try that?’ If we had something that was really working…”

You can read more on this here.

UPDATE: In a new article, the film’s current screenwriter, Dan Mazeau, told IGN that “The Flash has not been hobbled. Everything is moving forward as planned… I’m still writing the script. Geoff Johns is still consulting. Flash fans have no cause for concern, and — IMO — lots to be excited about.”

Voltron is Looking for a Writer

by SuperHeroHype

In an article at The Hollywood Reporter talking about how UTA is taking on Voltron and its U.S. rights-holder World Events Prods. as clients, the trade gives an update on the movie:

Voltron also recently was set up as a feature with Charles Roven’s Atlas Entertainment and Jason Netter’s Kickstart Prods.; UTA is expected to help bring a writer aboard and begin shopping the project to studios.

The agency hopes Voltron’s widespread brand recognition and elaborate mythology, which have served properties like “Transformers” well but doesn’t necessarily exist with other board games and toy properties in development, will appeal to audiences and executives.

The pitch is expected to include the idea that, unlike other toy brands, Voltron — in which five robot lions piloted by humans become a giant warrior — allows for human-centric stories.

Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd has revealed to TT Spektra that he will have a role in Marvel Studios’ Thor movie. Swedish site Ystads Allehanda reported on the casting in Swedish, but here is a rough translation:

Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd is ready for a role in action movie “Thor.”

Everything is still secret about the project and Skarsgård can not reveal what role he will play.

“They wanted me to sign without reading the script. That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was so coded that I could only print one copy,” said Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd to TT spectra.

Some time ago it was said that Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd’s son, Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd, was on his way to the title role in “Thor.” In the end however, it became Chris Hemsworth, known for “Star Trek,” who got the job.

Paramount is eying a May 20, 2011 release for Thor. Kenneth Branagh will direct the comic book adaptation, starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore and Samuel L. Jackson.

The epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
