Discovery Looks to be Appearing in Transformers 3

by SuperHeroHype

In an article at NASASpaceFlight.com talking about the preparations for the launch of Space Shuttle Discovery at the Kennedy Space Center, it mentions that it looks like Discovery will be appearing in Transformers 3:

Regardless, flashes and bangs of a different nature can be expected at the pad over the coming days, as movie crews film scenes for the Hollywood blockbuster Transformers 3, with Saturday processing information noting work to support filming should proceed as planned over this weekend.

Scenes are expected to be shot at Pad 39A on Wednesday – understood to be timed with Discovery being on show with the RSS retracted, meaning the Shuttle may gain herself some credits in the movie.

Hundreds of extras have received security clearance to be in the grounds of KSC during the filming, while Cape Canaveral sources noted Atlas and Delta resources will also be involved in some scenes. Director Michael Bay had previously filmed at KSC during the making of Armageddon – which involved scenes with Atlantis and Endeavour.

A July 1, 2011 release date is planned for Transformers 3.

Martin Campbell Talks Green Lantern Effects

by SuperHeroHype

Green Lantern director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye) told Empire magazine (via Coventry Telegraph) they’ve got their work cut out in bringing the comic book to life.

“It’s daunting,” he said. “Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it’s mind-blowing, quite honestly.”

Campbell said that a lot of the effects shots work will concentrate on the Green Lantern’s power ring. “It’s energized by a battery on the planet of Oa, which taps into the willpower of everyone in the universe. From that ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant fist. Or a fighter plane.”

Ryan Reynolds will play the title role in the action-adventure, which Warner Bros. Pictures will release on June 17, 2011.
