UPDATE: Deadpool Spin-Off Moving Forward
Source:The Hollywood Reporter
May 6, 2009

20th Century Fox is developing a X-Men Origins: Wolverine spin-off featuring Deadpool, the wise-cracking mercenary played in the film by Ryan Reynolds, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Reynolds is attached to reprise the character for what for now is simply being called Deadpool. Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel Studios would act as producers.

The project is currently out to writers.

The trade adds that the studio considered a Deadpool spin-off early in "Wolverine's" development process, which is why it cast Reynolds.

UPDATE: A source close to Fox tells us that the Deadpool and second "Wolverine" movies are coming from the two Easter Eggs at the end of X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

"We are developing a spinoff with Deadpool, as well. It is one of the two different "Easter egg" scenes after the credits of WOLVERINE and hints at two different movies that are coming FROM THEM. One is the Japan backstory which was announced earlier, the other is about Deadpool. The film, which would be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel, has Ryan Reynolds attached and would be a complete exploration of this unique character - his origins, his emergence as the Merc with with the Mouth, etc. We are looking for writers as well."

YESSSSSS! A Deadpool movie would kick ass as long as they kept up the dark humor but breaking the 4th wall may not work in theaters

RAD!!! I can't wait!!!
"Okaay! People are dead..."

Dear god, please, no. They ruined the character bad enough in Wolverine: Episode 1 The Phantom Mutant. You suck Fox. Please throw in the towel.

ryn renoylds was a baddass as wade should be pretty sweete

Posted by: Okhireme on May 5, 2009 at 21:26:21

This movie is a slam dunk. No major special effects. Reynolds being charming with the ladies and being rejected. Deadpool wearing a mask! I'm thinking ash of evil dead 2 and army of darkness smooth. The movie should take shots at the comic boog genre itself. Deadpool should know he is in a movie. The movie should be serious but there should be a voice over throughout the movie of deadpool commenting. Let's get some kick ass assasin stuff. Deadpool making jokes. Like getting his armed chopped off then complaining about ow long it takes to regrow. He should even make the joke that he looks like ryan reynolds and a sharpei. He should know that this is a movie and make jokes that no othr hero would. This could actually be good!

@XVEGA: Breaking the 4th wall would not only work in a theater... but has been done many times by non-comic book movies... and would only be proper and fitting for this movie. otherwise we should just call it "Some big mouthed dweeb who likes to kill people"

I'm sure it will be FOXtastic.

He was the best part of the movie.

Couldn't have been cast better. Hopefully it'll repair the damage done to the character in Wolverine though.

Ryan Reynolds is the *only* choice for Deadpool -- I'm really hoping this happens. He's a great actor, and really pulled it off in his brief appearance in Wolverine.

FOX present

X-Men Origins: Deadpool
Rated PG

Wade Wilson is assigned partners with an unknown mutant named Cable. Together, they hunt down mutants and meet other mutants along the way for more spinoffs.

hopefully, it won't be s**t like Wolverine

Posted by: Jaguar on May 5, 2009 at 21:35:40

I say to Marvel: Don't let Fox make this PG-13...

It -has- to be Rated R.... Deadpool/Wade Wilson is not a "kiddie character". Hell, don't even let Fox make it, Marvel.. *****slap them and make it yourselves...

Love Deadpool.

Here's what I WOULD LIKE to expect to see in a Deadpool movie:

*Mel Brooks and Rob Reiner meets Monty Python.
-This would entail Deadpool messing up and cutting, tackling, falling, shooting, hitting, kicking, or bumping into a camera man, or someone working on the lighting. Maybe do a Christian Bale reference, maybe not since it's been used over and over again. Think Spaceballs.
*The Olsen Twins MUST appear.
*Deadpool uses swords AND guns.
*Deadpool's new regenerative system rejects all the crap they put into him, except the teleportation.
-*HIS* explanation would be that the writers gave him the short end of the stick last time and threw that in as a bonus.
*Leave out all angst. This is a comedy and Deadpool has no time for drama.
*Deadpool is his OWN villain, and as such, he shouldn't be worried about anything but his salary, his notoriety, and his own personal interests. If he is to fight some "super-villain", let it be a complete misunderstanding on Deadpool's part.
-Borat/Pamela Anderson style, without the crush.
*Three mutants are allowed to cameo.
-Forge, Siryn, and Domino.
*He must have his costume before it hits the half-way point.

Will Fox live up to that little list?
Probably not.

Will I go see it?
Only if the trailers and over-abundance of "exclusive content" sells me that it will be a comedy.

Good luck.

Ryan Reynolds and his fans were short changed in the wolvering movie. Let's hope that this movie will actually end up being made one of these years and they can right the horrible wrong that was dealt to the deadpool character.
i think the wolvie movie was great except for screwing up deadpool.

Posted by: Pecos Bill on May 5, 2009 at 21:42:38

Ryan Reynolds said he'd only sign to do a Deadpool movie if it was faithful to the source material, since apparently he is honest-to-god a huge fan of the character.

I don;t have high-hopes after seeing Wolverine, since not even Jackman could salvage it, but hey fingers crossed :/

What do I want from this movie, simple Madness. I want to hear his voices, I want to hear his voices voices, I want to see Deadpool sitting in the front row chucking popcorn and criticizing his own move.
That's all I don't think it's asking too much.

Posted by: NukeTheUnicorns on May 5, 2009 at 21:44:25

if Reynolds has any say in it it'll be great.
