Wolverine Adds Another $73M Internationally
May 4, 2009
In addition to making $87 million domestically, X-Men Origins: Wolverine earned another $73 million overseas this weekend from 9,234 theaters in 101 markets. The film has already reached $160 million worldwide. Variety reports:
With Fox culminating a massive worldwide promo push, the U.K. led the way with $9.8 million in the best Brit launch this year, followed by $7.4 million in France, $5.7 million in Australia, $5.5 million in Spain, $4.8 million in Brazil, $4 million in Germany, $3.7 million in Russia and $3.5 million in Italy. Fox has postponed the launch of "Wolverine" in Mexico because of the flu outbreak.
Fox said the fourth "X-Men" pic generated the top launch numbers among the franchise entries in many markets. Three years ago, "X-Men: The Last Stand" opened day and date with $76.3 million on its way to cuming $225 million overseas -- the seventh highest foreign grosser that year.
Stay tuned for more on the film's box office in the days to come.

why couldn't they just do a panel for panel of the Weapon X series? Zach Snyder makes a good living, simply taking a great storyboard that is already done for him, in the COMIC!! and making it into a great movie. why do they change crap all the time? this story has lasted for more than a decade, i think it is safe to say it has some legs. jeebus.

good for them, as much as i hate Fox for ruining my most anticipated movie ever, Dragon Ball, they did a pretty good job with wolverine IMO. I was never a huge fan of X-Men, but i found a very easy to understand origin story of Wolverine who i knew little about, it was introduced to me in a well paced and well balanced movie. Two Thumbs Up

BTW, the movie does have some faults that i was able to spot, but overall as a movie it was well done
Posted by: boomerang on May 4, 2009 at 01:37:55
this means we're getting more movies like this?
If with all the material they had to work with they ended up with a movie like this one. God help us with Origins:Magneto.

i'm with you boomerang....... i mean, all the d@mn work has been done for these retards, just take each camera angle, line of dialogue, and plot line from the source material that has already proven itself as superb! WTF!!!!

A Wolverine movie should have been easy to do! F'in director should have read the comics and learned from X3 and not have used mutants that should not have been in the movie. Also Weapon 11 should have been a less important character that could be easily killed off, rather than have it DEADPOOL! Stupid, FOX Execs should be FIRED for getting a LAME director!

@haha
well for what I've read, Snyder was approached by FOX to direct Wolverine, but he envisioned an R rated movie based on Weapon X. Fox and Jackman were not very pleased by that.
But in all honesty. Even though Snyder gets things done as faithful as he can to the comics, I think he takes way much to credit for what he does. I enjoy it, but all he does is like taking a picasso and animating it.

Yes! Great news. I don't understand how people don't like the movie.

In the words of wolverine:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Tom Rothman, has another notch on his bedpost...... another remarkably awful franchise movie with enough box office to warrant a badly written sequel.
Note to Rothman:
1.Read a comic and see what makes a character so popular in the first place.
2.Seeing a cameo of a charcter badly done doesn't appeal to anyone especially comic fans
3.Hire a talented writer and director

I have to agree with ya ShadowHunter it does have it's faults but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I still hate FOX and would rather that MARVEL STUDIOS had made it but it was better than the X-MEN movies thank god Singer didn't put his crap all over this. The movie was too short and could of had more of TEAM X's exploits. I hope that they do a DEADPOOL movie so they can make him the DEADPOOL we all know and love. This movie will have to fill the void until IRON MAN 2 comes. I'm not too sure that a MAGNETO movie would be good move I would rather see a DEADPOOL or GAMBIT movie. The war scenes could have been expanded more they looked like there was some really cool stuff that could of been done, it would be kick ass if CAPTAIN AMERICA made a brief cameo in the WW2 scene on Normandy Beach but that couldn't happen for obvious reasons.

Yes. Let the destruction of a beloved franchise begin. It's clear that the "fair weather" fans are going to drive this franchise, because everyone who claims to love this movie are the one willing to forgive its glaring oversights.
Much like the Spider-Man franchise (which I still think is god awful). Those three--soon to be four--movies made millions. But true Spidey fans know they could have be much, much better.
Sticking close to the source material in the case of "Wolverine: Origins" would not have meant being inaccessable to the mainstream movie-goer. It simply would have meant paying respect to the character of Wolverine.
This movie could have tweeked Logan's origin a little bit, the same way Nolan and Goyer tweeked Batman's origin. But they ADDED to the richness of the character instead of taking away from it.
Example: Victor Creed is not Logan' half-brother. Keeping that in the movie would have added mystery as to where Sabertooth came from (Why is he so similar to Logan?) And we don't even need to know, really.
The real tragedy here is that the super-hero genre of movies has been dealt a blow by not following up on the promise given by The Dark Knight and Iron-Man: That these movies can be about real-life, serious subjects.
But the studios don't see that. They only see dollar signs and ignore the fact that the American movie-going audience is smarter than they think. Yes, give us summer action flicks, but it's okay if they're intelligent as well.

I think Fox should stop making movies like these and just donate money to Africa. That way, at least they'd be doing something good and respected.

Weapon X would definitely have to be rated R. For good reason.
@boomerang... Snyder is the luckiest dude on Earth. Take the comic, treat it as a storyboard, make millions. What a life!
I guess we all have to be realistic and realize they are not making these movies for people who love and respect the source material. They are dumbing them down to the lowest common denominator in the attempt to sell popcorn and trinkets to the masses.
I just wish they would have made Weapon X. How bad@ass would that have been?

it was an enjoyable movie, but it wasn't the movie it could have been, just like the X-Men movies. Fox just likes to F**k things up with the X-Men franchise. the best thing they can do is give the X-Men rights back to Marvel so that us (the fans) can finally get true X-Men films!

Just saw the movie tonight and it was GOOD people...stop complaining!
Posted by: boomerang on May 4, 2009 at 02:13:04
I want Weapon X too.
I'm wondering... if there actually is a Origins:Magneto, who would play Magneto? If the movie is going to be all about senseless action, then Ian is kind of old to play the role. Another face for Magneto, another reason not to have high expectations on the movie.

I hate that FOX has control of The X-men franchise.

when you have more fun watching Sky High than your favourite comic character's spinoff movie you know something's wrong.

It's such a shame about Wolverine. It had so much potential but the whole thing just felt like large chunks of footage were taken out to make room for action sequences.
I still enjoyed it though. It's a 7/10 movie for me. I actually liked it a lot more than X3, which for me was terrible. X2 remains the greatest of the series and still one of the best comic book movies ever. I'd rate X2 higher than Iron Man, which I felt that Robert Downey Jr was the only GREAT thing about that movie, everything else seemed to be just "good".
Fingers-crossed for a Deadpool movie.

Also, of course the studios are making movies for the masses to make money, that's what they are in business to do, make money!! Who's going to finance a 4 hour, r-rated Weapon x movie, all the people on this site??
Posted by: haha on May 4, 2009 at 02:58:43
@madeye..
dude, nothing would make me happier.
