Wolverine Claws to a Savage $87 Million
May 3, 2009
Despite worries of a workprint that leaked a month ago and generally weak reviews, 20th Century Fox's prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman, brought in an estimated $87 million its opening weekend in over 4,000 theaters, averaging over $21 thousand per site. It is the third-largest opening for a May/summer kick-off blockbuster, surpassing the opening weekend gross of Bryan Singer's X2 six years back (at least based on estimates), but falling short of the openings for Spider-Man and last year's Iron Man.

Bad storytelling among other things.

Well... 87mil is good give a leaked work print, los of hype .. but have to say if you really want to see something go play the game. If that could of been the movie... now we are talking. Im really curious to see what the cost of the movie was. btw does anyone know when the contract with Fox is over & it goes back to being a Marvel?

Copious....
Tis a sad day in the world. Perhaps people are panicking from the swine flu and, while thinking the end of the world is upon us, decide to go see Wolverine.
I could think of better things to do with my time than sit around watching movies though...
Star Trek will have my money, and I'm no trekkie.

I agree completely...but I expect a 80% drop next week. This movie sucked. Bad FX's and bad story. This a rental at best.
Signed,
Christopher Nolan

This movie was good. Of course not the best in the Marvel to Film series. And you know there are some terrible Marvel movies out there. To me it was enjoyable. I'm glad to see it's making money. So I can see a gritty Deadpool spin off movie... Written by Jonathan Nolan.. Christopher Nolan.. and David Goyer. Directed by James Cameron. Produced by Don Simpson.... yea! YEA!?....pffffttttt... Only in my dreams.

I was entertained by this. it works well within the other 3 x-men movies (it is what it is, i guess). still, fox deperately needs to die (a horrible, painful death) and marvel needs to take the x-men back. fat chance, but here's hoping . . .

The whole x men universe,(at least as long as its with FOX) is now DEAD!!

Unfortunately, this means more sequels, spin offs, and let downs. The script was horrible and the special effects looked like they were done by Crayola (very cartoonish).

87 million - what are haters gonna do???

The movie had some good points. The problem for me was that it was too crammed with stuff that didn't get the attention it deserved. It felt like it rushed through the story and character interactions. The motivations seemed to be stapled on, rather than naturally developed. This should probably have been split into two movies, to give the plot lines and characters the attention they deserved. It could have opened with modern day Wolverine and told through flash backs, if the producers were worried about not seeing claws until the end.

80% drop next weekend. I wanted to love this movie and I defended it for months while everyone tore it apart. Hopefully the sequel will do better. Silver Samurai and Mariko should be the only characters Fox should worry about seeing as it is in Japan. No more stupid cameos! Unless you throw Sunfire in there...

Saw it for the fourth time. Deadpool ending is creepy and awesome. Up there with Iron Man no doubt.

lol "haters"
What spam!
I suppose those who use the "haters" terminology believe that because someone is vocal about not enjoying a movie, or not interested in a movie, that makes them a "hater". Have we moved on from elementary/primary school yet? What a tough world you face.

I won't see it. I'll wait for an R5 on bittorrent.
Star Trek, Terminator, and Tranformers are what I'm looking forward to. What a lousy summer for comic book superheroes.

It wasn't like watching Ang Lee's Hulk,Elektra,Daredevil,Fantastic Four, the Punisher (mindless violence)..so yeah..it wasn't Iron Man or Batman Begins but it was a decent movie.
