Donner Hoping for X-Men: First Class Franchise
Source:Comics Continuum
April 15, 2009

"X-Men" franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner talked about possible spin-off X-Men: First Class on Fox Movie Channel's "Life after Film School."

"It is the first class of Xavier's school, way back when, so it's young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that'll be really fun," Donner said. "I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world.

"And hopefully 'First Class' will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up."

She also said that a Magneto movie remains in development.

...Ugh

Posted by: Matthew Roye on April 15, 2009 at 02:41:55

please please PLEASE let this happen!

god...i just want some ACTUAL X-MEN FILMS! instead of the wolverine adventure series they've been shoving down our throats.

and please PLEASE let them show cyclops off a little, im tired of defending a character who shouldn't need it.

Posted by: sthrncomfort on April 15, 2009 at 02:41:56

sounds pretty ****ty actually. why you want Fox fuccin it up even more?

Posted by: Darkseid on April 15, 2009 at 02:42:57

That sounds alot better of an idea than turning it into a movie about the younger mutants from the first 3. A movie about the original team.

Posted by: Stop!!! on April 15, 2009 at 02:47:07

Would fox just f@cking stop already? They've ruined these characters, no one cares any more. Just take your open weekend profits from Wolverine (cause after that bombs goes off, Fox is only going to get the opening weekend money) and go ruin great stories and characters with George Lucas.

Hey, the Wolverine movie leads up to it! If you liked the first 3 xmen films, then you'll love this!

Posted by: j on April 15, 2009 at 02:49:05

Good idea, just don't let Fox do it, let the franchise expire and Marvel can pick it back up in a few years. Oh and BTW what about Angel? Oh yeah, we made him a scrawny kid in X3.

Posted by: SocialMyth on April 15, 2009 at 02:52:21

What kinda sucks about this idea is that in Fox's X-Men film universe Iceman and Angel weren't part of the "First class". So I wonder who else they would include in the roster?

Secretely, I'm hoping that Marvel Films gets the rights back from Fox and re-boot the franchise.

Oh I'm sure they'll write Wolverine in there somehow... God forbid you make an X-Men movie without that dull-as$ed character...

@Matthew Roye

I'm gonna have to agree with you on Cyclops, he deserves so much more then the treatment he has received so far.

Posted by: shroud on April 15, 2009 at 03:24:46

hopfully wolverine will fail and things won't get that far

Posted by: Short Round on April 15, 2009 at 03:31:44

Great... now it's gonna be Harry Potter X-Men.

You guys need to calm down and take some f***ing Prozac.

If done well, this would be good. I love Wolverine but I'll admit he ended up eclipsing the rest of the team in the X trilogy. They also got weighed down by the prospect of including as many mutants as possible, making it almost impossible to connect with anyone because they only got about 2 lines.

This could be a great way to explore some of the X-mythos, while ensuring Wolverine doesn't end up eclipsing the team because they won't HAVE him- he'll be in his own franchise.

There's no point saying "Fox should let the rights expire and Marvel will re-boot it" because neither is ever going to happen. Fox will hold onto the franchise for a long time, because there are a lot more movies in it. As for Marvel, it would be way too big a risk to try and reboot a franchise that was extremely popular and generally critically acclaimed a few years after the most recent movie came out. You really think they're going to re-cast wolverine or magneto or professor X?

WRONG DONNER!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: royal**** on April 15, 2009 at 03:52:58

anything's better than the first trilogy

Posted by: man1985 on April 15, 2009 at 03:56:27

I heard that

"it will be scripted by Josh Schwartz, creator of Gossip Girl and The O.C"

Now I pose this question to all the supporters of this movie: Do you really want the creator of "Gossip Girl" and "The O.C." to be handling this? I think FOX is trying to officially finish off Fudging the X-Men franchise in Buns Hole.

They shouldn't connect it to the surplus bile that Singer spurted at us, or the crap that the monkey Ratner through at us, just reboot with the original five. Please :)

Posted by: Weirded out on April 15, 2009 at 04:05:44

You people seem to be majorly overreacting.

That's my first thought when i read most of the threads here; i don't bother replying because it's already three pages of puerile, boring, surplus insults about whatever's been reported.

Bottom line - if done well, First Class could be a great film. I'd agree they've not set themselves up well for that with the trilogy, but there are ways around that.

And calling the original three 'bastardised'? 'surplus bile'? Fine, they weren't perfect, but that's a little extreme.

Take a chill pill.

YES! Bring this on! NO WOLVERINE!

Posted by: venom160 on April 15, 2009 at 04:15:09

Yes but the problem is it won't be done well. Not with who they got currently writing it. I mean seriously the guy who made Gossip Girl? They honestly couldn't ****ing get anyone else? Donner should stop hoping that this pans out and actually put effort in ensuring that First Class is up to X2 quality.

Posted by: man1985 on April 15, 2009 at 04:20:49

In case I didn't get my point across the first time:

"it will be scripted by Josh Schwartz, creator of Gossip Girl and The O.C"

Posted by: logan1983 on April 15, 2009 at 04:23:41

they need to make it classic x-men not just cyclops, jean and beast but also iceman and angel i say scrap the first 3 x-men movies and reboot the franchise from scratch

Posted by: Pop on April 15, 2009 at 04:27:41

They will just end up being worthless, pathetic crap...who cares?

Posted by: The Great Pezman on April 15, 2009 at 04:30:17

Bump this. Give me a Cable movie based on the X-cutioner's Song storyline, with Stryfe being the villain. Bring Apocalypse in during the finale and do a sequel with time travelling Cable fighting Apocalypse. Do an Apocalypse Origins movie next. Finally, go ape with the Age of Apocalypse series.

Why is Fox making this difficult? Who would the "first class" fight in the movie? Magneto? Again?? Or perhaps Mesmero? Yikes. Please, please no. Just because Star Trek is getting a fresh new look with kids replacing taking the helm it doesn't mean we want an X-men movie that looks like The Hills. Damn it.
