Nicktoons Network has announced that "Wolverine and the X-Men" will premiere on January 23:
Nicktoons Network, the fastest growing kids' network, introduces Wolverine and the X-Men, the new action-packed animated series based on Marvel's ever popular Super Heroes. Produced by Marvel Animation, the new 26-episode, half-hour series follows Wolverine as he reunites the X-Men in an attempt to save the world. The adventure begins with two back-to-back episodes Friday, Jan. 23, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. (ET). The new series builds on Marvel's rich storylines from the comic book pages and big screen, and will air regularly Fridays at 8:00 p.m. (ET) on Nicktoons Network.
As the newest installation in the franchise, Wolverine and the X-Men continues Marvel's tradition of epic storytelling. This new animated series focuses on the most popular and well-known X-Men -- Wolverine -- and celebrates the unique qualities of the X-Universe: the action, the iconic characters and the storylines.
"Our audience craves action and adventure, so bringing Wolverine and the X-Men to Nicktoons Network was a natural fit," said Keith Dawkins, Nicktoons Network General Manager, Senior Vice President, Nickelodeon Programming Partnerships. "The folks at Marvel are master storytellers, which is why the X-Men franchise has been so hugely successful. We expect this next chapter to really resonate with our audience."
In the premiere episode, "Hindsight, Part 1", it is a year after a mysterious explosion destroyed the Xavier Institute and broke up the weary X-Men. An embittered Wolverine has lost himself on the open road, haunted by the unexplained fate of the missing Professor X and Jean Grey. But his efforts to keep a low profile end when he's brought back into the crosshairs of the Mutant Response Division (MRD) after rescuing a family. Wolverine infiltrates the MRD to liberate the innocent family who was captured for defending him, as well as a dozen captured mutants. Wolverine knows more trouble is on the way, and realizes he needs to enlist the help of the X-Men.
In the second episode, "Hindsight, Part 2", the villains from the Brotherhood fuel the mutant hysteria as Sen. Kelly tries to gather support for his Mutant Registration Act. Meanwhile, Wolverine is finding it difficult to get the X-Men back together. Most of the team is still unaccounted for, and those that Wolverine can find refuse to join the new team. The disillusioned Rogue has even taken up with the Brotherhood. But when the Brotherhood plans to go after Sen. Kelly at a press conference, the conflicted Rogue must decide where her loyalties lie.
In the late 20th century, mankind began to change. Suddenly, teenagers developed unthinkable abilities that science classified as the next stage in human evolution. In response, Professor Charles Xavier created a School for Gifted Youngsters so the young 'mutants' could learn to control their uncanny abilities and live in harmony with the non-mutant members of society. From then on, Xavier's students -- the X-Men -- intervened to protect the peace until a mysterious explosion devastated Xavier's school. Leaderless and without direction, the X-Men disbanded and the man known as Wolverine struck out on his own.
One year later, the once fiercely independent Wolverine must reunite the X-Men to prevent a horrible vision of the future where the X-Men gave up on Xavier's mission and the world fell into chaos. With great tragedy in their past and their future, Wolverine must lead Xavier's disillusioned students against the forces of fate and destiny. Perhaps together Wolverine and the X-Men can steer the course of history away from catastrophe. But no challenge Wolverine has ever faced can prepare him. On top of learning to lead the X-men for the first time, he's charged with trying to prevent a vision of a dark future from coming to pass. If the X-Men are to stay together as a team long enough to save the world, Wolverine will have to set aside his doubts, and the loaner will have to become a leader.
In celebration of the on-air event, fans can visit Nicktoons Network's website, www.areyouamutant.com, which will launch on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Users may have their DNA "scanned" to determine if they have mutant genes and, if so, they can enter the mansion of the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters. In the mansion, they can visit one of four X-Men-hosted rooms or the Common Room, which will feature Instant Replays of the series post on-air premiere, polls, message boards, as well as episode descriptions and characters profiles. The site, updated weekly, will also feature a link to Nick.com' s Game of The Week, "Wolverine and the X-Men: Sentinel Slash", where Wolverine's quest brings him claw to face with a host of deadly robots in a fast-paced, action-packed 2D battlefield where his reflexes and his mutant healing factor will be just as important as muscle. Players control Wolverine to defeat the enemies in each level, and keep Wolverine alive as long as possible.
Additionally, Wolverine and the X-Men video content will be available on TurboNick and via Nickelodeon's wireless platforms. The series will also have a dedicated category in Nick's Video-On-Demand offering beginning Monday, Jan. 19.

Seen it. Looks a lot like X Men Evolution.

The thing about the title of this show ("Wolverine and the X-Men") is that it makes Wolverine out to be more important and better than the entire collective X-Men. So not true.

We already have this up here in Canada, It's looks like X-Men Evolution but has all kinds of different characters like the old X-Men cartoon from Fox.

Wasn't the X-Men movies really just "Wolverine and the X-Men".

Jesus Christ, senorashish calm the f_ck down, man. It's a KID'S SHOW for sh_t's sake. All that appeals to them is what's 'in' and 'cool' because they're kids.
And it's about time NICK started showing stuff like this.

Oh, this wasn't already on TV? The entire season is online, isn't it?
I've watched about 9 eps or so and actually haven't liked it as much as I like X-Men: Evolution. Evolution was a lot more character/relationship driven, and this new show is pretty much just action.

Ugh...so sick of that style of art. Played out.
Don't care for this.

It's a shame that they didn't stick with the original premise and anime studio and series as the art and stories were surprisingly good and surprisingly consistent (in either original/condensed form) with the X-Men of the comic books. The "anime" they are using looks to be as horrid as that of most contemporary animation. It's tragic how this generation of children don't even realize that most of the cartoons they are seeing now are complete cubist-crap in terms of complexity/quality in comparison to the 'toons of the past. Children's cartoons, domestic or foreign, used to be works of art, now they are utter crap due to cheap studios.

It's good but i'm sure it's gonna get better with time. It's better animated than the 90's show (come on people remember how it really was and not just the opening) and more plot driven than "Evolution" (too many lame one-shot in season one and two). I would like a more iconic opening theme thought. This opening is the weakiest of the three shows (or even compared to "the pryde of the x-men" pilot)

I don't think an Xmen cartoon is, or ever was, necessary. We have the comics and the movies. More is just overkill.

ISn't this the same time slot as Brave and the Bold??? And Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles starts airing Friday at 8 starting in February too! My DVR is starting to sweat!

Yeah it looks a lot like evolution but action packed lik it was the X-men Animated Series.

at last, the show comes on in the USA.. now the bootlegging can stop..
I hope the show is renewed for several more seasons, there should be at least 100 episodes of the new show, and it should spin off some other characters.. New Mutants, for one..

I'm a big X-Men fan but this is just for the money. How many times do wegot to repeat the same stories? Plus, wasn't all the X-Men movies about Woverine & the X-Men anyways? I just miss the '90's cartoon show now that one was awesome with good animation.

In Canada they already have the 1st season complete. I've watched all the episodes so far and they are alot better than X-Men Evolution. I love that they have a larger group of characters. I hope all the other fans enjoy this show as much as I have.

Looks very promising, can't wait to see the premiere episode. Must say though the old animated series from the 90's plainly called X-Men is by far the X-Men at their best. Didn't really care much for X-Men: Evolution. As for Pryde of the X-Men, what can I say. Google it or search for it on YouTube, you have to see it. It is truly beyond words, lol. All I can say is Aussie sounding Wolverine, nuff said.

here we go again casting wolverine as the hero just like the films.
big mistake - wolverine is a loner like batman, this is why the character is so loved. if they wanted to stay true to the comics they would have cyclops as the one to reunite the x-men
Posted by: mojojackson on January 5, 2009 at 16:32:38
gambit83:
Being a hero and being a loner aren't mutually exclusive. And yes. Batman is a hero as well.

I've watched up to episode 12 of this show and it rocks. Can't wait til the season restarts.

i have been against this damn cartoon from the beginning. wolverine is not a damn leader. he never wanted to lead the x-men. and who cares what vision he had of the future. they have been screwing up the entire origin and universe of marvel for far too long. ultimate this, evolution that.....it is retarded. Nw there are damn near three different realities for marvel. How about this: We make a movie or cartoon series.....where CYCLOPS IS THE LEADER AND ICEMAN IS AN ORIGINAL MEMBER! Wolverine is cool, but there are sooooo man other members of x-men that are better.
