Liev Schreiber Gets Feral in Wolverine

December 10, 2008
Liev Schreiber is about to get feral, sinking his teeth and claws into the iconic role of Victor Creed, AKA Sabertooth for next summer's prequel film X-Men Origins: Wolverine opposite Hugh Jackman as comicdom's most popular mutant. And as he tells ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype!, he enjoyed vying with Logan to be the best there is at what he does, even if what he does isn't very nice.
CS/SHH!: Did you ever think you'd be doing a comic book movie like "Wolverine"?
Liev Schreiber: No, I didn't. I always hoped I would, but I never did. It was a sort of natural graduation from "Defiance," actually. It's true. It was a natural next step.
CS/SHH!: Why did you want to do "Wolverine"? What was the attraction?
Schreiber: I hope I'm not blowing anyone's cover here, but I don't think men really mature intellectually and emotionally beyond 22. Your bodies evolve, but nothing else, really. And so why should I stop wanting to be in a comic book movie?
CS/SHH!: What was your point of entry to the "X-Men" mythology? Were you familiar with the characters from the comic books at all?
Schreiber: I was a fan of the comic books. I just loved the character of Wolverine. I always have. That sort of deeply ironic and very urban sensibility in a superhero was something that I thought was really groundbreaking. And the style of writing was... particularly the very sort of editorial style. I just always loved it. And I think that we were able to capture some of that darkness in this movie, so I'm very proud of it.
CS/SHH!: So, what can you say about that film, just to touch on it a little, as a character, after...
Schreiber: I'm very excited about it. I've seen some footage, and I think it's gonna be really very good.
CS/SHH!: How bad-ass do you look as Victor Creed?
Schreiber: It's hard for me to say. But I'm really looking forward to people seeing it. I found it to be really intense. The character I play is incredibly brutal and feral, has blood-lust unlike any other character I've ever played. This guy is a real killer.
CS/SHH!: Did you enjoy working with Hugh?
Schreiber: I love Hugh. I mean, Hugh is the reason I did it. We'd been friends for a long time. And it's just so much fun to work with him…To do fight scenes with Hugh was really terrific, because as a dancer, he has that kind of discipline and choreography. And I always studied to be a fight choreographer, and always wanted to be a dancer too, but didn't quite have the feet for it. But we had some remarkable fight scenes together, and I'm looking forward to people seeing those.
CS/SHH!: As a veteran of superhero action, did Hugh have any advice for doing that kind of movie?
Schreiber: "Lift weights." [Laughs] I did. I lifted weights, and I ate an army of chickens.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine hits theaters on May 1st. Look for the new trailer in theaters with The Day the Earth Stood Still on Friday.

Can't wait to see Sabertooth do Liev Schreiber's smirk. :P Still, Schreiber does have a sort of sinister psycopath look in his eyes when I see him in movies.

Schreiber is too short
Posted by: Rich on December 10, 2008 at 15:31:38
Liev is a good actor but idk if he was the right choice for sabertooth, ik he will be good in the role cause he is a good actor, but i think logicaly they should have brought Tyler Mane back as sabertooth from x-1, but that is my opion i just hope the film dose better then that crappy x-men 3 movie.

Schreiber is taller than Hugh Jackman people. And he's a very good actor. You people would rather some 280lb wrestler?? I guess you all want Triple H to be Thor too right? LOL Please.

i keep hearing people complain about liev schreiber being too short, yet none of them complain about hugh jackman being too tall. don't be picky people. jackman proved that he was the right guy to play logan, give liev the same chance before you judge him

Liev Schreiber isn't blonde enough to play Sabretooth!
Posted by: Tito on December 10, 2008 at 15:45:55
felixtcat, thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard....obviously you've never heard of something called makeup...they use it in hollywood a lot

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but there aren't a lot of giant actors in the world. liev is definitely tall enough. and i always thought he looked like a killer, ever since i got it wrong in scream lol

Alot of ppl were complaining when Heath Ledger was first cast for TDK but that turned out pretty well didn't...? people need to chill out. Let's see how the movie is and then make our opinions. I think he'll do fine. I would rather have a guy that can act than just a guy who meets the exact physical description of him.

Tito...you should reread felixtcat's comment again...
Plus...Schreiber's hair isnt long enough

Tito, have you ever heard a thing called sarcasm?
Anyhoo, I would've probably **** my pants for dissapointment if they had put Mane for the role...
And what the **** is all this whining about Liev's height? c'mon
Posted by: scooty puff jr on December 10, 2008 at 16:11:31
i think liev will do a great job as sabertooth. hes a very talented actor and who cares about the exact height omg its off by a few inches looks like we need to cast a giant no talented actor as the main character for a movie.

Liev Schreiber may lack Tyler Man`s imposing stature as has been noted previously, but what he lacks in that he`ll make up for with sheer presence and acing ability(which is something Tyler Mane painfully lacked as Sabretooth in the first X-Men film).Schreiber`s right,Sabretooth is a twisted, pyschopathic killer with a unquenchable bloodlust and add to that that in the comics Sabretooth would describe how he recieves what he calls ''the glow'' from killing his victims, which I always thought was a veiled way of saying that he gets turned on similar to a person having a orgasm-when he kills people.
In short Sabretooth is one twisted, wild and feral maniac. He`s like the this broken, cracked evil and soulless dark reflection of the gruff,cigar-smoking,rebel with a clue, rough around the edges but still noble and heroic Wolverine.Schreiber will make a good Sabretooth
because he seems to understand the source material and through that he understands Sabretooth(although if he understood the motivations and impulses of a murdering pyschopath too much that might not be a good thing)- and he loves comic books.Schreiber doesn`t appear to have that smary attitude of some dramatic and ''serious'' actors who think Superhero movies are frivolous.Schreiber seems to know better and of course Superhero Hype knows better.

The only problem with the height is that sabertooth's towering height over wolverine added to the character's psyche in the comics. The fact that he was over a foot taller than wolverine and had almost the exact same abilities but still felt he had to prove himself superior at every turn in what makes sabertooth seem more villainous and makes the tension between the two all the more endearing. That is why the height is an issue. But i feel with actual people instead of pictures on a page, that same inferiority complex can be exemplified in a different way, so there shouldn't be a problem in the movie. My only disappointment is how blatently non-sabertooth-like they made him look. The point is that he was supposed to look like an animal, a mane of hair and long canine's...they really didn't even try to make him look any different then wolverine.

yeah people have got to stop *****in bout the height of sabertooth in this. in the comics wolvie is short as hell so oh well. I'm more concerned bout how they get the look of deadpool and how they fit gambit in the movie logically with the time line. deadpool at least was in weapon X, remy wasn't.

oh and also ever read the comics? when they served together they both were much less feral looking and always wore uniforms or fatigues.
would u rather see sabertooth in yellow spandex and a giant furry collar? lol
Posted by: SpoonyLuv on December 10, 2008 at 16:22:51
wait a minute wait a minute.....you people are forgetting the most important line. An army of chickens....JESUS..did anybody else know chickens are starting armies? what happens if they all band together and make one super chicken army? The human race would be screwed...and I for one refuse to be a slave to poultry....unless it's deep fried with secret herbs and spices....mmmmm boy that's good eatin...

If he doesn't wear his classic brown and orange spandex I won't see it....
In all seriousness, I think Liev is a good choice. Tyler Mane doesn't exactly have the acting chops to take on this large of a role. The last clip of the crappy youtube comic con trailer where he smirks at Logan and shows his pearly fangs was badass. Sounds like he was into playing the character too!

Wolverine is 5-02 in the comics.....I don't hear u guys complaining about Jackman being 6-02, wow, get over it, Batman didn't wear grey tights and blue underwear either....WAHHHHH! Stop compaining and get a girlfriend...who might actually go see the movie with u....
