Shuler Donner Talks Magneto Spin-Off
Source:Empire Online
November 12, 2008

Empire Online talked to "X-Men" films producer Lauren Shuler Donner, who talked a bit more about the Magneto spin-off. Here's a clip:

Details of the plot have remained vague thus far, but Shuler Donner was happy to tell us shed a little light on things. "We have a script on Magneto which is actually sort of Magneto and Charles Xavier," she said. 'It's Eric and Charles in their early, early years."

The site also mentions a synopsis that has been posted by Production Weekly, but that is an unconfirmed plot.

I don't know if a Magneto movie is really worth it?

Posted by: BullPlopper on November 12, 2008 at 10:47:31

Wolverine looks good, but lets see how it really is before we discuss making this

Posted by: eric on November 12, 2008 at 10:48:14

it would be sweet to see them get in a fight

Hey, I wonder if Gambit and Wolverine will be in this one too!!!! (sarcasm)...I don't know why but I'm just not too psyched about this one. Call me crazy but I'd rather just see an X-men 4.

Would be kind of cool to flesh out a bit more backstory early in the movie showing how a young Erik discovers his ability, perfects it, and uses it against his captors to escape and free others from a concentration camp. This would serve to lay the foundation for continuity as we saw at the beginning of X1 and establish a greater likeability of the character despite the knowledge he becomes a pseudo-villain later in life.

Deep, I know....

This could work. There is a cool Magneto miniseries that Marvel is printing now. It would be cool if Fox uses some of it.

THIS MOVIE HAS FAIL WRITTEN ALL OVER IT

I agree that we should wait to see how the Wolverine movie turns out. I want to be positive BUT you never know...

this crap still being made? damn it......

Posted by: heythere on November 12, 2008 at 11:47:37

should be interesting, i wonder howthats going to play out

Posted by: Morden Night on November 12, 2008 at 11:53:02

I think Magneto will be an awesome movie. Eric and Charles have a lot of interesting back story to them that I think is definitely movie worthy material.

Posted by: spideymouse on November 12, 2008 at 11:55:23

if the Shadow King was there, that would be pretty cool...

still, i'm not sure about this.

i agree, think its gonna bomb. story is probably gonna suck something fierce. magneto's a cool character and who the hell are they gonna get to play him? someone that looks like the previous actors just younger or go fresh? do we forget that magneto is a pretty muscular character in the comics?! think it would be smarter to do an xmen-4, but a good one where everyone doesnt die or lose their powers.

Posted by: Frerezar on November 12, 2008 at 12:16:19

i am pretty sure this will be mediocre at best. The story of charles and magnus is supposed o be a social ****ysis of the evnts of modern human history from the fourties all the way to the nineties. It needs to be character driven to show the slight things that made magneo and prof X start growing apart. FOX cant do that with superheroes, they just cant.

this movie could be very good... as we know a good cast and script can be a winner.

now lets talk X-men First Class the movie.

This has the potential to be a very good film, but that of course dependson how it is handled.

I'm thinking no Xavier until the last third of the film, and probably no other mutants at all until then either. Although you could prehaps do some subtle implications of Sinister who I believe worked with the Nazi's at some point. It should probably focus on remaining real world grounded for as long as possible.

Posted by: scooty puff jr on November 12, 2008 at 12:34:33

it could be a little before WWII then to him in the concentration camp and him discovering his powers when they take away his family and sinister notices this cuz he was around then and worked for the nazis. sinister teaches him how to control his powers and erik brakes away from him then moving on to him meeting charles and it shows how charles looses his legs and juggernaut should be in it cuz hes charles brother.

Well not only that, But Captain America helped liberate the camp. Not to mention that Wolverine fought alongside Captain America.
Possible cameos?

Posted by: scooty puff jr on November 12, 2008 at 12:39:15

if they do have an x4 theres no jean or cyclops and rogue has no powers and professor x isnt even himself anymore its some random guy in the hospital. pretty much itll be the old people training the kids to take over the team. maybe some real sentinals and magneto gets his powers back.

Posted by: Jeff on November 12, 2008 at 12:43:24

Is this based on the David Goyer script? Is he directing?

Posted by: Bruce_Wayne on November 12, 2008 at 13:06:46

Ugh!! Can we skip this, and go straight to Emma Frost: The College Years"?????
