Fox Opening Registration for X-Men: First Class?

An interesting listing at Production Weekly caught our eye - "X-Men: First Class." Could 20th Century Fox be developing a movie based on the series written by Jeff Parker and pencilled by Roger Cruz? Or are they using the title of that comic for their proposed Young X-Men spin-off?

What makes it even more interesting is that X-MenFirstClass.com redirects to FoxMovies.com.

The "X-Men: First Class" was an eight-issue mini-series published from September of 2006 through April of 2007. As Special was also released in May of 2007 followed by a monthly series that started in 2007 with the same creative team. The comic is described as follows:

For millions of years, mankind's place on Earth was unchallenged – until five young people paved the way for a new kind of human. While students at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Beast and Iceman taught the world what it meant to be X-Men. These are the hidden stories of the team that laid the foundation of a mutant dynasty!

We'll have to wait and see if official news on this hits.

Very cool finally mabye a x-men movie not about wolverine.

This sounds promising. The x-man need a reboot; these 5 characters need a better big screen treatment (truer to the comic in look and feel). And it would be cool to the X-Men incorporated into the larger universe marvel is building. I like the X-Men movies, but hated the look. Here's hoping . . .

A reboot of the series with the original 5 members (plus Xavier) would be cool. Then they can slowly add new members and get some of their origins right. Also a younger cast would be more desirable, instead of the bunch of 35+ members they started out with. ie Halle and Famke

damn...missed it by THAT much. oh well.

Man, I wish Marvel wouldn't have let FOX extend their holdings on X-Men. I think this could be cool though, Finally Angel in action and maybe Cyclops will actually use his powers!

This is interesting. If they do it right, it could be a hell of a movie.

Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Fire!, i guarantee that there having logan meet cyclops of this group in wolverine opening up the start of this series and then after the sequel or third then they can bring wolverine back, AND IN YELLOW AND BLUE! I called it. NUFF SAID

This could be quite awesome. I like the gritty sound of it, having them more as outcasts than established people.

Imagine if it was done like Beowulf..

bet they are just using the name.

a reboot would be awsome if they had a good director again, but i truly doubt it.

the report of the young x-men thing scared me.

Sounds like a decent concept- though, we'll have to wait until producers mangle it first.

I'd love to see an X-Men movie done right!

I'd love to see a REAL X-Men movie. Isn't it about time they did one where the characters were true to form? I'm pretty tired of this "Wolverine and some other people with powers" movies that Fox passed off as X-Men.

I also agree that a younger cast (have them look under 25) would work better. I liked Kelsey Grammer as Beast (perfect voice for him), but Kelsey and Famke, especially, are too long in the teeth.

Bring on the FIRST CLASS!

X-men:Children of the Atom by Joe Casey and Steve Rude should be used as reference as well. It's the best origin story for the original Xmen Ive ever read.

I'm so SICK of origin movies! I couldn't care less about this

Wolverine is going to be sweet, I hope they have Deadpool break the fourth wall, hahaha.

thanks for the link acslaterson
But im not impressed with this movie trailer it looks like xmen4 with all of the mutant cameos and ryan reynolds looks stupid as deadpool, if they got rid of all these unnecessary cameos, and just stick with wolverine and sabretooth and actually make rated R with blood and some gore it would be a good movie, but i get the feeling they havent done justice to this character.

@ acslaterson

Much agreed that Fox and other studios should no longer have rights to Marvels property. Damn, stupid legal contracts! Is there a petition that I can sign?

I think the only X-Men that was done rite was X-2 but still had flaws...like every movie out there including the TDK and Iron Man. I'm not saying they were bad but if I had to nick pick...

To all the Wolverine haters...so what if Fox saw cash in Logan, it's not Wolverine/Logan/Jackman's fault. Once we are given a true and amazing Wolverine film, everyone's thoughts would go back to..."Wolverine is an amazing character"

- I'll catch you on the flip side!

Deadpool was just a normal merc until he went into Weapon X when he got his healing factor he also got his scars so that is probably why Ryan Reynolds is not masked. Hopefully he will get don the mask during the second half of the movie. Just my hopes!

Posted by: Arno on July 28, 2008 at 15:17:59

Perhaps with a link with the shield, the same thing than for Iron Man and Hulk etc....

Posted by: acslaterson on July 28, 2008 at 15:18:40

Forgot a "to" in there, sorry!

Posted by: FireFly's Enigma on July 28, 2008 at 15:22:45

FOX is going to drain the X-Men name (like Sony with spidey) until it's dry...so when Marvel gets the rights back everyone won't touch it. Sounds horrible but think about it. However if they got the X/FF/Spidey franchises back and they have someone like Nolan or Favreau helm than I it may work out. X-Men: First Class/Young X-Men sounds great but not from FOX

Posted by: Avenger Hawkeye on July 28, 2008 at 15:28:03

yes do the x-men right! they blew it with Bobby Drake and Warren Worthington. And they really didn't do Cyclops justice. Famke Janssen looked like a cougar walking hand in hand with Marsden.
Maybe do the Krakatoa story when Prof X and Cyclops recruit Wolvie(Jackman),Storm(anyone but Berry),Nightcrawler(Alan Cumming),Thunderbird(suggestions) and Sunfire(Jet Li)

If this possible film is to replace the supposed proposed Magneto film then I am all for it. A stand alone Magneto film doesn't sell for me but a film of the x-mens first year created by xavier and magneto has PROMISE!

I'd be excited to see either the original five X-Men or a Young X-Men as long as they do it right (I was a big fan of Scott Lobdell's run on Generation X so if they could do something along those lines...). Then again, the big IF in there is if they do it right.
Also, for the oversaturation of Wolverine in the movies, it's what the fans want. If the movies happened in the 90's then there would be no way that they would have done a movie without Gambit or Cable, even if it wouldn't make sense starting out the first movie with both Cyclops and Cable in there and trying to explain how the younger man is actually the father of the older one. I still love explaining that one to people (sarcasm doesn't really translate on text so take my word for it that it was a sarcastic comment). Still, I'd prefer it if Marvel could have all of their properties back. Just a chance to see all of them in the same playground....
