The new issue of Empire magazine has this new promo photo of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for 20th Century Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, opening May 1, 2009. Directed by Gavin Hood from a David Benioff, the action-thriller co-stars Liev Schreiber, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, Will.i.am, Danny Huston, Dominic Monaghan, Daniel Henney and Lynn Collins.
Leading up to the events of X-Men, X-Men Origins: Wolverine tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

STONE_WORM,
No, it won't. 20th Century Fox owns the film rights to X-Men/Wolverine, and Marvel Studios owns the rights to Avengers. They won't do that kind of cross promotion.
And I have complete faith in this movie. For one, I'm a Wolverine nut. And though Jackman is in fact too tall, I think he makes a pretty good Wolvie. Also, you internet knobs need to rent Rendition and see what this director can do. Keep in mind that one of the biggest hacks in Hollywood directed the last one (Brett Ratner), which is the primary reason it pretty much blew. This director is already an Oscar winner (Tsotsi), and made an incredible film called Rendition that centers around the Iraq conflict (somewhat). He can totally pull it off.
You have to also keep in mind that Wolverine has already been introduced to the world in a PG-13 realm. You can't go making a hard-R Wolverine movie now cuz kids wanna enjoy it as well. I agree that if they could start over, they should say F the X-Men and just do a Wolverine movie with an unknown actor that fits the roll a little better, and make it a hard-R film like they're doing with Punisher. Jackman even said himself that he would rather make it an R movie, but he didn't think the studio would allow it. So since its not going to happen anytime soon then there is no reason to gripe and moan. Believe me, it will be plenty worth the watch. And lets just hope for an Unrated Directors Cut when the DVD hits...

To MD-if you knew anything about Wolverine, you'd have known he's over 100 years old, so to portray events that may have happened 20-30 years ago is no problem if you age as slowly as Logan does.

Could one of the legends of the marvel universe possibly be Captain America? The idea for the Avengers movie has already been brought up at the end of iron man and the hulk and we know that wolverine fought beside him in ww2. could a well placed Captain America cameo set up captain americas own movie.

sorry i thought my post didnt go thru correctly

even though marvel studios owns the avengers they could still place a captain steve rogers without costume cameo. maybe a battle scene on the beach where an un named blond army captain stops a fatal blow to wolverine. maybe thats just wishful thinking, but they should have a hint to captain america in a movie with a ww2 scene.

They aren't going to make him look younger since wolverine ages slowly. The only time there'll be a younger wolverine is when they show him as child. If you're a fan of the x-men books, you'd know that. He doesn't necessarily look different at all. When he's an adult he basically looks the same from his 20's till...god knows how old he is now. Haha.

The Hannah Montana Movie opens up against wolverine. Hannah Montana is more popular than wolverine. It could be close at the bo.

Correct me if Im wrong, but Im pretty sure that Canada and America were on the same side, during WW2. But otherwise I agree with ya. Either seeing Cap in the W movie, or vise versa would be pretty cool.

Although I think that Hugh did an admirable job with how the character was interpreted for the movies, I agree with the poster that said his looks are wrong. I think Paul Giamatti has the look and the acting chops to make a good Wolverine. I would like to see a WEAPON X series made by Showtime with him playing Wolverine. In a serialized format they could treat it like a comicbook with the running story lines and deeper character developement. Showtime already has several great original programs like Dexter that are very graphic in nature. A project like this is exactly what fans would want and would also fill a programming nitch currently lacking on premium channels.
I think back to when HBO had the animated Spawn (which was great) but the interest wasn't there at the time. I think if they launched the same kind of project now it would be a different story.

hmm... I know that most of the moviegoers are not gonna be up-to-date or jiggy with the overly confusing and multi-dimensional ORIGINS storyline(s!!!) from the comics, and as this is gonna be based on the movie's continuity, we'll probably be seeing something amazing and enjoyable at the same time. With a lot of mess up of the original material, but who are we to complain? Stan's Wolvie wasn't Victorian was he? huh? huh! Lets see if they put a twist on the weapon-X arc or use the same one from X2... lets see... that's all im saying.
p.s. the Incredible Hulk sucked! They didn't need to reinvent Ang Lee's which is still awesome as ever! I don't care how much the new flick resembles the old series, in fact, Batman Begins and TDK has done the BEST job in NOT resembling it with Adam 'fat lard' West's show.

@ The Goon....
Heheh... pull a wanted... nice one. dont think that's happenin anytime soon though. Oh and just for the record: Jackman as Wolverine kicks ass, but seriously dudes, don't you think that the furry fella has been overly commericalized and promoted??? Whatever happened to the OTHER team LEADER of the X-Men? Whatever happened to CYCLOPS?! He got only a small part in the second film (which i think pretty much did a good establishment on Wolvie's origin) and then forcefully removed him in X3... that's just plain wrong. Who's gonna come up with the Omega Series or the Apocalypse wars now??? Damn it. And forgive me for bein a non-neo-Marveller, but WHATTHEHELL IS GAMBIT DOING ON AN WOLVERINE ORIGIN MOVIE???
Having said that... this'll be awesome. And hopefully way better than that x3 crap. Go Logan!

Wolverine can't look younger MD because he's already over a 100years old and he looks still 30 after his 30ths! Dude read your comics man!!
Posted by: MD on July 6, 2008 at 17:04:25
Yes, yes, I'm a confessed newbie when it comes to the X-Men universe. Although I did collect a lot of X-Men comics when I was a kid, I didn't read much because I was more into other superhero comics like Spider-Man and Transformers. Now, all my X-Men comics are gone. I don't know what I did with them, lol.

People should read a few comics before commenting.
Obviously, Some of you are just X-Men movie fans and
don't know a thing about Wolvie's back story. I don't want
to sound like a snob, but its tough to hear dumb comments.

This sounds ridiculously picky, but I've always thought Wolverine's claws should look like...claws. Not ginsu knives sticking out from his knuckles. The rectangular shape looks too synthetic. The claws should be more organic, less clean (even with the adamantium overlay), and at least more round in shape. What do the rest of you think?

How about some Deadpool ? When are we going to see some of that ?

Looks okay. I'm really looking forward to this movie and the Magneto one.

I dont know about anyone else but I really hope they drop the Xmen Origins part of the title. It's Wolverine. I dont think he needs any other introduction.

FIRST THING, X3 DIDN'T SUCK, AT ALL AND NEXT THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO ROCK. LOGAN HAS THE STRONGEST PRESENTS IN THE MAVEL WORLD. IT IS TIME FOR HIS OWN MOVIE!!!

Um technically he wouldnt need to look younger! He can regenerate so he doenst seem to age at all! Like in X-1 Jean says "He could even be older than you Professer!" Plus Hugh doesnt look that much older now than he did when X-1 thru X-3 came out!
Posted by: outer_limiter on July 6, 2008 at 19:53:34
I'd like to see a cameo with Nick Fury alongside Capt. America, for as they both fought in the war. Especially with Capt. America and his shield, being that adamantium was created from trying to reverse-engineer what Capt. A's shield is made from.
