X-Men: The Last Stand Tops with 5 Million DVDs Sold
October 11, 2006
The Hollywood Reporter says that X-Men: The Last Stand and "The Little Mermaid" dominated the DVD charts last week:
20th Century Fox's "X-Men: The Last Stand" and Buena Vista's "The Little Mermaid" continued their strong first-day sales momentum, selling 5 million and 4 million units, respectively, their first week in stores, studio sources said.
That led to a one-two finish on the national DVD sales chart for the week ending Oct. 8 and, according to observers, should mitigate fears among some big retailers that digital downloads are eating into DVD sales. Both titles achieved their DVD success despite being readily available, at lower prices, through online download services.
