It will hit the Watchmen viral site TheNewFrontiersman.net tomorrow, but we've got an early peek at a viral video featuring a news piece from a 1970 edition of NBS Nightly News (anchored by NBS stalwart Ted Philips). The video includes a special report from co-anchor Jim Sizemore looking back at ten years of Dr. Manhattan.

i think it would be awesome if they did a prequel to king kong about the man found at sea with the map to skull island that could be the title skull island and they could add some cool new creatures and dino's like giant snakes, croc's,bears, plesiosaur's and some teradactle's. so what does everyone think. ohhh watchmen rule.

yeah this is very authentic-looking film stock and presentation. the guy pictured as Nixon looked a little....odd. I think this is pretty sweet, viral campaign worked wonders for TDK, and Watchmen definitely has enough ties to real history for a wealth of things like this to be made prior to 3/6/09.

Very nice! The tank scene was still obviously CG, which made it seem less old, but the rest really could've been from one of those old news-shows! I hope this is successful marketing; WB seems to have fought hard to get this property in cinemas, and I hope it's worth their while!!

Great Idea with the old looking footage!

I think the "better blue than red" comment had to do with Russia. but then again I could be wrong. Anyone else got any ideas?
Posted by: Tony on January 21, 2009 at 16:29:55
PERFECT!!!
Posted by: Clouse on January 21, 2009 at 16:31:26
Better blue than red is clearly referring to America's support of Dr. Manhattan, and of course the fear of the Russians.

This is so well done... it makes me want to jump up and down and click my heels together in spontaneous, abundant, joyous, jubilee!
All haters, please go back to your Dark Knight closets and shave your palms.

Yes, the slogan is a play on the old "Better Dead Than Red". Personally, I'm hoping they produce t-shirts with that slogan. I would love one.

really well done !! seems like it really happened.
Posted by: FightingCorsair on January 21, 2009 at 17:14:19
nice.
I can't believe the Red reference is lost on some people.
Have times changed that much? Soon there will be people who don't know what a record player is. Or a cassette tape.

Yeah well one day people won't know what an iPod is.

i hate to admit how awesome this looks. The key to this movie will be the stylistic differences between the decades. This frat boy director just might pull it off.
