Titan Books has provided Superhero Hype! with a first look at "Watchmen: The Art of the Film," which will be available in stores starting February 10. What you see is a concept drawing of Nite Owl II by comic book artist David Finch. Below it, we've posted the design the production ended up going with for the Patrick Wilson costume.
"Watchmen: The Art of the Film" explores the evolution of the movie's look, revealing scores of production designs and stunning set photos, costume sketches, original storyboards and other pieces of conceptual art. Filled with unique characters and layer upon layer of arresting detail, Watchmen is a triumph of design; and this hardback volume, a lavish celebration of a comic book made real, offers a unique look into the genesis of that design work. The book can be pre-ordered here.

I like how it's a more serious, gritty, "I have to wear all this stuff to keep from getting shot cuz I have no powers" look. Just like Batman in the movies, Night Owl dosnt do the tighst because 1:It looks odd in a film, 2:In comics, its easier drawing the human form then a bunch of fabric and armour, and 3:it looks cool!

Depending on how well Patrick Wilson (Night Owl II) performs in this film, he should definitely be considered for the lead in Captain America

this suit beats Christian Bale's Batman suit no question.

I think I like the Concept better than the actual product.

Yes, unfortunately they really screwed up Batman's costume. I know they tried to go about it from a military sense, but its too chunky. Nite Owl looks cool, like it was thought out.
I think Nite Owl is the best character from the novel for sure, other than the Comedian, looking forward to him on the big screen. Veidts costume is too dark. He is supposed to be more god like.

While i do like the actual costume, I wish they would have kept the round eyes from the concept

David Finch is one of may favorites comic artist at the moment.
I loved the stuff he did on the new Moonkinght series and I wish he would do some interior art for the Batman comic.

It's a little over the top. I can see why they didn't go with it.

i think that the concept drawing is better than the actually one in the film...btw No the third Batman movie will not be called Dark Crusade...idiots should know they haven't even started working on it yet...

cool design. a lot more faithful to the comic design than the actual design for the movie. either way it still looks like a good movie

Maybe it was a good idea not to make Nite Owl II look like a nun. :(

I want to say cool, but I think the drawing had a lot more OWL than the photograph. Anybody know the deal with the sailor moon crescent bat-a-rang thing on his belt.
Seriously though...I'll buy the "art of" book when it comes out

I would've liked to have seen the cowl of David Finch's concept sketch incorporated into the costume. I like how Finch rendered it all feathery like that. ;)

Yeah, I like the concept more because it's closer to the book, but I can see where they wanted to comment more on the comic book movie costumes in the movie, rather than the way gibbons semi-paradied the comic book costumes in the comic. The same applies to veindts costume, hence the nipples. A lot of people seem to not realize that snyder is using this movie as a commentary of comic movies, just as the books did for the comic book medium. Purists are always less interested in doing a good job of adjusting the work to better fit the medium that it is portrayed in and more interested in exactly copying the books, which is impossible, since they're two completely different mediums, there will always be changes needed to make it transition well.

LEEE777, Right on! Here we are on the brink of the release of the film made from the GREATEST GRAPHIC NOVEL EVER PRODUCED and some boneheads are still talking about Batman? Baloney!! The name of the next batman film could be BATMAN AND THE JELL-O SQUIRRELS for all I care as long as I get to see WATCHMEN in 6 WEEKS!!!!!

That concept art surpasses the movie suit tremendously. The conceptual piece actually makes me not only want to this movie, but interested in the character as well. The costume used for the movie is like a poor combination of batman and something from the ultimates. Doesn't look owl or original one bit.
