If Warners is committing to advertising, I think that might be a good sign for the lawsuit case.

man, let's hope so. though this ad makes it look like a run-of-the-mill action flick, i have very high hopes.

@ Zeeyang

Lame and short! They shouldn't even advertise until the last minute anyway, and whenever they do it on the tube, what a sucky f'n job. Still, I can't wait until this project comes out. Glad it is'nt a summer release like Wulvureene. I reeeeely want to see another Xmen movie fail!

lame. being marketed like an action movie. this spot is sending the wrong message. oh and terrible editing of rorschach's lines

Posted by: senorashish on January 12, 2009 at 03:24:02

A TV SPOT?! DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS?!

It means that Fox and WB are having successful talks about this movie! YEAH!

All credit about this film should be in the hands of WB. Just give FOX a piece of that pie and that will cheer them up! YEAH! WB and DC are on a roll!!!!

*whines*...naaw just joking, but it's a little on the action side of things, which Watchmen has little of, ahhh well as long as people see it :/ if the film is good, it won't matter in the end.

Um, yes we have seen Superheroes like those. Plenty. Ever read Marvel, DC, any other comic company? Please. Watchmen didn't invent superheroes. It just shows that this damn movie doesn't have a plot and will bomb.

"Um, yes we have seen Superheroes like those. Plenty. Ever read Marvel, DC, any other comic company? Please. Watchmen didn't invent superheroes. It just shows that this damn movie doesn't have a plot and will bomb. "

Are you kidding? Seriously, first off, the type of people watching that TV spot probably haven't seen heroes like that. Not everybody reads comics, in case you weren't aware. And even then, Watchmen is well known for putting a huge spin on what superheroes can be like. Name a major Marvel or DC superhero who shoots pregnant chicks without a care.

And are you really saying that this 30 second TV spot that they aired during a football game is an indication that this movie doens't have a plot.

Again, are you kidding?

@senorashish

i totally agree, WB and DC are really changing it up.........

It s not some crap saturday morning cartoon anymore....it s like a night at the opera (referring to the quailty of films theyre coming out with in the comic/superhero genre)

i have no problem with the action type film marketing they are doing it will put non fans asses in seats more than "one of us died tonight" you cant actually market the deconstruction of superheroes in this multi layered complex story in a trailer let alone a tv spot

"You Have Never Seen Superheroes Like These"

yes i have, i've read the book

Dear Fans,

As a fellow comicbook fan, and filmmaker, I must say this, Chris Nolan only focuses on one project at a time, it was confirmed by Nolan himself that he doesn't want to jump the gun on something like this, plus he has another film adaption coming up that he is already signed up for so with this in saying. He hasn't even begun to contemplate a potential third film to Batman in less he's scribbling down some brain storms on how he can complete the project, but for the most part Nolan is no doubt gonna take a break from Batman...and this is good too, cause remember, Sam Raimi when he did the Spider man films, he did those back to back for 7 yrs straight, and look at ended up happening, the third one was flaming turd...PLUS THE FANS WHERE ONE JUST YEARNING FOR VENOM! SO PLEASE STOP HERE BEFORE YOU GIVE PEOPLE BAD IDEAS AND JUST LET THEM CRAFT THE STORY WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!

I swear, the people that post on this site are the biggest collection of d-bags on the internet.. this movie will be epic in every way, shape and form.. I'll see post after post of shyteheads heaping unwarranted praise and excitement for another installment of Michael Bay's Transformers abortion, yet I see nothing but criticism and 'hack' references in regards to Zack Snyder and inconsequential things like *gasp* THE TRAILER.. seriously, if you're too stupid to realize that anyone who doesn't know what 'Watchmen' is, is going to be somehow influenced by any form of a trailer then you should stop watching movies all-together and maybe focus on more simplistic forms of entertainment.. I'd suggest monitoring your virginity.

oh yes...i´ve seen them like that before....Hancock and Dark Knight beat watchmen in this regard...they have showed how superheroes can be like in the real world...so theres nothing really new to watchmen...

While I tend to agree in general, you do realise that you just posted on this site, so you're also, by default, describing yourself. And me. :)

You don't know it will 'epic' any more than the douche's know it will 'suck'. Here's a cruel and unusual idea - why not wait until you actually see it and THEN make a judgement.

I know, it'll never catch on.

How about...NONE. Wouldn't doing that disqualify you from being a 'superhero'?

Or is that the point? Whose watching the Watchmen?

Posted by: Shayera on January 12, 2009 at 12:06:39

The irony is that the Watchmen characters ARE meant to be variations of Charlton/DC superheroes, which people have seen before.
Marketing is marketing. They tried to put V For Vendetta in the action category, and received the same reaction. The point of showing all of those action scenes is to attract the average viewer who knows little to nothing about the Watchmen. It is a win/win situation.

Warner Bros is really gambling with the release date here.

PS: The only exclusive footage in this tv spot is Doctor Manhattan forging the hydrogen atom symbol on his forehead.

this spot is sikkk .me like

I think it works for the attraction of non-fanboys. People whom have read the comic aren't going to be swayed by the trailer. And people looking for a good Saturday night film may put it atop their list. So it'll work out for both parties. And it needs to be advertised as an action movie cause it's going to be chalked full of action.

Posted by: hawkeye1128 on January 12, 2009 at 12:49:23

@yumyum:

Except watchmen's story was released in 1987. It was one of the first groundbreaking graphic novels that broke the whole "comics are for kids" stereotype. If this movie is in fact like the book, it will be outstanding.

I also agree that this particular trailer is kinda lame. Doesn't feel like what a watchmen trailer should be.

Perfectly done, great line editing, some new very short scenes, fantastic!

I thought it would have been cool to follow the ad campaign from the original series that had an ad focusing on one character at a time.

Posted by: ObamaisGOD on January 12, 2009 at 13:21:45

The Dark Knight is certainly a far superior film to this piece of crap. The Dark Knight was the greatest superhero movie ever made. Christopher Nolan made a masterpiece. The Dark Knight is a landmark film in the annals of history. Watchmen just doesn't look that exciting.
