Alan Moore Unsupportive of Snyder's Watchmen
September 18, 2008
With the 20th Century Fox lawsuit against Warner Bros. over Zack Snyder's Watchmen still unresolved, the Los Angeles Times' "Hero Complex" blog recently interviewed comic creator and author Alan Moore and got his opinion on the movie that many have felt might finally get one of Moore's stories right. Moore apparently hasn't had his opinion about Hollywood swayed or changed, because he isn't just against the adaption of his graphic novel finally coming to the big screen, but seemingly against movies in general.
In the interview, Moore says that he finds "film in its modern form to be quite bullying," and as far as the much-publicized lawsuit, Moore seems to be thrilled about the legal problems surrounding the film which is due out on March 6, 2009, two months after the trial date that's been set for the case. "Will the film even be coming out? There are these legal problems now, which I find wonderfully ironic. Perhaps it's been cursed from afar, from England, and I can tell you that I will also be spitting venom all over it for months to come."
Then again, Moore has never watched any of the film adaptations of his books, and Zack Snyder probably shouldn't feel too bad that Moore isn't positive or supportive of the hard work he's been putting into making Watchmen faithful to Moore's original work.

Such a sour grape, I think I'll boycott his work in the future just for the hell of it.

Good for you Alan Moore. You Snake worshipping God. Great writting though, Watchmen was one of the best reads. Don't really care what he does in his personal life, but bravo for being a part of the Black arts.

Moore sounds like a real douche. I hope the Watchmen movie is huge just to spite him.

There's no link to the rest of the interview.
Didn't Moore admit that the script was as close as they could get? He really needs to lighten up a bit. Why so cereal?

Sorry folks. I'm with Alan on this one. This film will be ridiculous. Film industry is not equipped today to do watchmen any justice. IF your not gonna do it right dont do it! Zack Snyder shouldve never been given Watchmen its too complicated for him.

Moore is a great writer, but also an idiot and a jackass. V For Vendetta was much better as a movie than a comics. He's probably just bitter that people are doing better with his work than he did.

This is NOT news.

Wow, talk about being an ass. Being a comic book genius doesn't give you license to be an ass.

Writers by nature are egotistical beings. Alan Moore is just being who is. And Ryan, I agree. Not much on this site has been news anymore.

I wonder how many of you are just finding Watchmen for the first time, because of the trailer.
And I'll bet if that's the case, then you must have no idea how eccentric Alan Moore is. He's reclusive and crazy. And he gets worse all the time. Have you seen a picture of him? He looks like he's lived in the woods for 50 years.
However, he's a masterful writer who has never wanted his creations to be published in any other form other than that of which it was created. He also has never wanted to see his creations merchandised. I think its fair enough to respect that.

Alan Moore complains about everything. Whats new?
Posted by: abe on September 18, 2008 at 22:51:39
I agree with Moore. I won't be watching Watchman. I have no interest in it.
I only read this article to read Moore's take on it. From reading his quote however, I'd like to know more about what he doesn't like about the movies of his books.

I heard that he gave all of his royalties to the Gibbons and Higgins.

As much as I support Moore and all of his work, I can't understand his hate for Snyder. Everyone else messed up his books movie form, but Snyder seems determined to keep the everything the same. Moore needs to give him a chance.

Alan Moore has always been a little on the crazy side. I think they could have made the Watchmen into an epic the size of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, frame for frame like his graphic novel, and he still would call it crap.

Screw Alan Moore and his snake worshipping BS. I don't really have any respect for him other than I'll give him props for Watchmen. That's about it. I love how he just throws everyone under the bus and is so bitter about his work turning into movies. Film today isn't equipped to handle Watchmen? Bull! Watchmen isn't surreal and unadaptable. From what I can see, so far the movie looks SPOT ON to me!!

You Know, I think Alan Moore is one of the greatest writers ever. Totally loved the watchmen. But he really does come off as bitter old (unt.
Maybe the media should stop hasttling him for his opinion as it's always the same. -Hollywood is worst thing ever. I don't want any of my movies made by hollywood etc, etc.
I can't say I blame him for that either as he was totally screwed over. But on the other hand, this project looks great - why can't he get over it? Hollywood is gunna keep turning his works into films cos they're great.
Perhaps he'd be happier if they made Bollywood versions of his movies. LOL Bollywood Watchmen!

He comes off as a giant douchebag.
But I bet he has NO problem whatsoever cashing those checks the studios make out to him.

I've said it before and it merits being said again. Alan Moore sure loves to complain the movies based off of his comics, but he sure doesn't complain any of the big fat paychecks he receives from royalties. Hypocrite. If he were really so righteous he wouldn't accept any money at all from them since they "offend" him so much, or at least donate the money to a good charity.
Posted by: William on September 18, 2008 at 23:13:09
Whoa GK1, it's like we were thinking the exact same thing at the same time. Weird but cool.
