I believe in Zack Snyder...here's hoping for The Dark Knight Returns.

Amazing covers. I'm glad I get these.

@ ibelievedinharveydent

Do you think that Snyder will be allowed to do the Dark Knight Returns? I read what he said at Comic Con.

this movie looks pretty sweet

Posted by: Confused on July 31, 2008 at 02:42:44

Already declaring it the Citizen Kane of superhero movies, huh? I consider that premature.

This movie looks amazing so far! Z.S. kicks ass!

Snyder did really well with 300 and Dawn of the Dead. The trailer for Watchmen and his talk about making a really good game has me thinking; he's on the rite track. Let see if he has the balls to do Watchmen justice in it's true form. I hope he does Tales of the Black Freighter well even though. I can not remember what medium that will be in.

Add on: Snyder does seem to *be* the fanboy *of* the GN's.

I liked the Entertainment Weekly cover better, doesn't mean this movie isn't going to be sweet!

I had high hopes for Watchmen to come out but I hated the first time I heard because of the first director. So I deemed my favorite book "unfilmable" and contented myself with Marvel fare. (DC movies all suck except Nolan's. They tried to fool me with the first superman but never again.)

Then they gave it to my boy Zack and thankfully he said yes.

I had dreamed that one day this could be done...a faithful translation of a comic book is so close...some things changed but basically I almost teared up watching this trailer. I see so many comparisons to this classic and the metaphors that Alan was putting across so clearly today...and don't think Zack isn't adding his own spin on the superhero commentary, too. I know that it's more than ironic the changes he made on the Nite Owl costume and the use of the Smashing Pumpkins song from Batman...he's commenting on the state of comic book movies as a whole and how Hollywood treats these properties. Please Hollywood take notice how this film will shock you all on your lack of knowledge of properties, and how if treated well we will reward you with more money in the long run. Isn't that what you want, because that's what we want from you.

Ozymandias still looks stupid. Bad casting choice. Everyone else, pretty good. Should have been Brad Pitt

Posted by: SolidSnakoid on July 31, 2008 at 05:04:20

this is gonna be awesome

Posted by: Limmic on July 31, 2008 at 06:37:57

Brad Pitt? Are you serious?

That would of been an awful choice. Have you actually seen Matthew Goode in anything? He was arguably the best actor in The Lookout, and his other stuff may not be fantastic, but he was good in it.

What is your reasoning for him being a bad choice? Brad Pitt would of been too old for Ozymandias (he's about 15 years older than Goode), it's obvious the age groups that Zack Snyder was looking for in the casting, why have one character that didn't fit that? Besides Brad Pitt is far too high profile for this film, everyone else is a relatively fresh face to most of the crowd. It would forever become "That superhero movie with Brad Pitt", it deserves better.

Couldn't agree more, Limmic. Casting (relative) unknowns was the right choice, imo.

I love it all. But why is Ozymandias wearing a mask and why does Dr. Manhattan have eyebrows. Small gripes, i know.

Posted by: Alex Childress on July 31, 2008 at 07:55:55

I'm holding my judgement. Z.S. has only wowed me in that opening sequence to Dawn of the Dead where, overnight, the world turns to hell. I'll give him a shot - so long as all the slo-mo in the trailer is just for the trailer. There is NO NEED to go slo-mo EVERYTIME someone makes a simple movement

Posted by: Your Name Here on July 31, 2008 at 08:28:00

Um, Ozymandias DOES wear a mask at one point in the story. If you'll remember in Book 4, when Manhattan's on Mars thinking about the past, he recalls Adrian Veidt unmasking and revealing his identity when the Keene Act was passed. Also, it can be interpreted from the novel that Manhattan DID have eyebrows.

If you want to complain about something, why not the fact that Comedian has a moustache in the Minutemen pic, or why he's not wearing a gimp mask when he's hanging off Nite Owl's airship.

The Smashing Punmpkins song used in the trailer is a B-Side of the song that appeared on the Batman & Robin soundtrack.

It is not the same song. They may sound the same (much could be said for the entirity of Smashing Pumpkins catalog), but it isn't the same song.

Jorge, Manhattan wears undies all the way until the 70s. He starts with a full suit and helmet, then gradually reduces to wearing nothing over time. If we're to hope for a perfect adaption, the nakedness is (unfortunately?) essential.

THis is going to be a sweet movie! I love the 4 pictures they have in the Empire Website. It looks like Night Owl and Silk Spectre (Malin) is hot superhero power couple. Can't wait for this movie to come in too!!.

ABout Dark Knight...Don't use "Dark Knight Returns". I would like to see the Zack Snyder take on Batman.

Posted by: Your Name Here on July 31, 2008 at 10:21:35

Good point, Jorge. With all the time jumps going on, it's not inconceivable we'll see him in/out of the speedos.

I should clarify that I've only read through Book 5, but I'm reading a book a night. I'll finish it this weekend, so that I'll fully understand how this could have never been anything but a mini-series or trilogy to fully capture EVERYTHING.

Posted by: gore-al on July 31, 2008 at 10:25:11

@jorge- dr manhattan constructs his fortress on europa, a moon of jupiter, not our moon, after the hal 9000 discovers there's water there, and that it could support life. he's not wearing a speedo then, he's wearing a green women's thong suit. and it doesn't happen at the end of the book, it's in the text at the end of chapter 23 titled 'jabberwocky'. nice try.

Posted by: cwtc44 on July 31, 2008 at 10:31:32

looks amazing, I'm so thankful he is being faithful.

But why the hell are people talking about ZS and batman? Nolan isnt good enough?? he jsut broke every box office record ever!!!

Posted by: cal-l on July 31, 2008 at 10:36:13

@ Your Name Here
Ilooked back at the book and you're right about the Ozy mask and i saw that doc Manhattan does have eyebrows but i also was only refering to these pics and not the rest of the film, so so don't have to be a big d0ucher about it.
