Exclusive: The First Watchmen Video Journal!
Source:Warner Bros. Pictures
April 6, 2008
ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! is exclusively premiering today the first video blog for Warner Bros. Pictures' highly-anticipated Watchmen, coming to theaters on March 6, 2009.
Directed by Zack Snyder (300), the mystery adventure is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...but who is watching the watchmen?
Patrick Wilson (Nite Owl), Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach), Matthew Goode (Ozymandias), Billy Crudup (Dr. Manhattan), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Comedian) and Malin Akerman (Silk Spectre) star.
Here is an introduction by Snyder for the clip, which you can watch either by using the player or in High Definition QuickTime!
Here it is, the first of 12 video blogs that we will be releasing during the next year to give you an inside look at the making of Watchmen. We'll launch one every month on the 6th, so keep an eye out for them as they will be premiering on various sites throughout the year. With that said...

Umm, that was very uninteresting for a person who hasn't read the Watchmen. I hear it's really good but I don't want to ruin the movie for myself. Oh well, I guess I'll stay tuned.

i think i just **** my pants... zack Snyder is trying to 1 up Robert Rodriguez in the scene for scene comic to movie adaptation business he started with SIN CITY, awesome movie... Zack did 300 which was also a spectacular scene for scene adaptation. Now, he's trumping himself with Watchmen, making everything in the movie exactly like the comic down to the RGB Color co-ordinates. Zack is a genius and insane in the best possible way, im looking forward to experiencing this movie...

still can't quite get my mind to comprehend how there going to pull this off. The book was so detailed and so deep.
Asric, you really should read Watchmen now. If the movie sucks, it might turn you off to reading the greatest graphic novel ever.

On one side of the spectrum of good movies, Watchmen. On the far other, Dragonball.

To Aaric the third poster:
If you are a comic book fan in any way shape or form I very very strongly reccommend doing yourself a favor and getting your hands on a copy and reading it asap. This is in no way a commentary on how I think the movie will be but I think/hope we can all agree that adaptations, whether they be book, comic, old movie, etc., almost never live up to the source material. There is just a tone to the graphic novel that no movie, no matter how good or faithful, could replicate.
Having said that, I do agree that this little background video greatly raises my hopes for this movie. It looks better all the time.

This is one of the best graphic novels in history! It has to become one of the best comic book movie in history also. Looks like my wish is coming true.
Now, I'm only missing "Preacher" and "Y the Last Man", then I can Die! ;D

To: Aaric.
Man, forget about not wanting to ruin the movie for yourself. Forget about whether or not the flick will suck or succeed.
READ THE DAMN BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to be so abrupt with the ALL CAPS there.
It's just that there's a reason (more than several, to be precise) this is regarded as one of the greatest (if not THE GREATEST) comic book graphic novels of all time. And, as such, there's a reason why some of us on this area are stressing to you the importance that you read the effin' tome!!! It's truly a wonder to behold and a thing of panel by panel beauty. Plus, there is so much additional aspects of the book that will most likely not make it into the film. So much so that you could consider it all a companion book within the book to go along with this killer of a graphic novel. I won't go into what they are or any of the specifics (and I implore all other people who post here from this point on not to ruin any of it for Aaric by talking about any of it here. If you're going to do so, please mark it SPOILER! so Aaric can know what to ignore.).
Aaric, you know how sometimes you'll see a really excellent movie that you walk out of the theater knowing that you're gonna buy that sucker when it hits dvd? The kind of flick that you go home and tell your family and/or friends about it and just the sheer speaking of it makes you happy in all the best ways? The kind of thing when you expierience it over and over again, you always seem to find something new each time? Watchmen is THAT KIND OF COMIC!!! Don't worry about ruining it for yourself, man! If anything, reading this story will (if it's a good translation of the source material) broaden the story for you (especially in regard to those additionals I spoke of above.).
Do yourself a huge favor and don't deny yourself an incredible comic read!(SO MANY ADJECTIVES TO DESCRIBE HOW GREAT THIS STORY IS! HOWEVER NOT ENOUGH IN EXISTANCE. YOU MAY THINK I'M EXAGGERATING HERE. TRUST ME...EVERYBODY ELSE POSTING HERE KNOWS WHERE I'M COMING FROM!!!)
READ THE BOOK, AARIC!!! YOU'LL BE GLAD THAT YOU DID!
TELL HIM, GUYS AND GALS!!!
---Later!
P.S. Aaric?
READ THE DAMN BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Diaxiann, dude, the Dragonaball movie will not be a monstrocity, its being directed by JAMES WONG the guy that made KUNG FU HUSTLE, one of the funniest
Hong Kong style farce movies ive ever seen.
Watch said movie and THEN come back and tell me if Dragonball will suck. Bcuz I WILL tell YOU that U are WRONG
hahaha

How awesome is it that we'll be getting another of these every month up until release?
Posted by: Stuff Daddy on April 6, 2008 at 07:27:06
Read Watchmen. It's the most important thing a comic fan can do and if this movie is any good at all, it will only enhance the experience. Plus, if the movie sucks it may cause you not to read Watchmen, which is very bad because you should read Watchmen. Read it Today. Go. Now. Read Watchmen, then brunch. Hurm..
Posted by: Batman on April 6, 2008 at 07:35:05
Yes, read Watchmen, Aaric. I read it again every year to remind myself why I love it so much.
Also, can't help but notice a tinge of idiocy in the idea of "ruining a movie by reading the book first". Unless you're talking about cases where the movie that you liked ends up sucking after reading the source material (I always get b**ched at for this, but I'm looking at you Clockwork Orange!), then yeah, but otherwise, that's taking a stance AGAINST having a deeper knowledge of the characters, their motives and the very world they inhabit.
After being disappointed by the costumes revealed previously, this vid instilled some hope back towards the good side of the s**t-o-meter.

Let me clear some things up.
DBZ will suck.
This video blog **** is boring.
And to the ****head who wants Johnny Depp to play The Joker. Go back to shopping at Hottopic because this isn't Tim Burton's Batman you Pirates of the Carribbean watching-Edward Scisorhands loving-Charlie and the Chocolate Factory eating- Corpse Bride ****ing-Sweeny Todd singing- Emo stripe wearing *****!
Posted by: heynow on April 6, 2008 at 08:44:17
that was awesome. zack is really taking care of the fans. this book couldn't have gone to a better director.
Posted by: Michael on April 6, 2008 at 09:11:32
Can't wait for the next one! Maybe that will be on the costumes. Loved when Comedian said, "This is the coolest thing I've ever seen." I'd be saying the same thing.
Posted by: Schindler's List 2: Electric Boogaloo on April 6, 2008 at 10:43:04
Hell no. The inclusion of Depp would only weaken the franchise. Ledger is a REAL actor. Depp is a joke.
Posted by: Emokid7731 on April 6, 2008 at 10:52:20
Hey shut up! *cuts self*
Johnny Depp has more talent in his pinky than you do in your entire body. *cuts self*
He's accomplished more in the past year than you'll ever accomplish in your entire life. *wipes away tear*
He'd be perfect for the Joker because he's soo cool. And he wears makeup and stuff. *cuts self*
Now if you excuse me, I have to meet up with some friends at Hot Topic to buy more Johnny Depp merchandise.
