Spiliotopoulos Writing Wanted Sequel
Source:The Hollywood Reporter
April 17, 2009

Evan Spiliotopoulos, co-writer of Pooh's Heffalump Movie and its DVD Halloween spin-off, has been hired to write Universal's action sequel Wanted 2, based on a story by Chris Morgan.

Like the original 2008 film, the in-development sequel is based on the comic series created by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones.

Marc E. Platt and Jim Lemley are producing with Timur Bekmambetov, who directed the first film and is attached to helm the sequel.

Morgan co-wrote the first film with Michael Brandt and Derek Haas.

I continue to remain, as always, underwhelmed.

i like how Spiliotopoulos is just credited to..."Pooh's Heffalump Movie and its DVD Halloween spin-off". wow. that does NOT give me much hope for this movie. unless pooh and tigger get to blow some brains out with curving bullets. that might be pretty awesome

Listen, there was only one good thing about the first WANTED, and that was when it ended. The lead actor, 'Mr. Tumnus' from The Chronic-what?-cles of Narnia' was just horrible. The writing was awful. The editing was splochy and bad. And even a gorgeous woman like Angelina J. looked as if someone had been stealing her food for the past six months. The special effects were okay, but pretty much all the movies coming out have 'okay' special fx these days. Why, oh why would they make a sequel to this movie when they have yet to do a theatrical release of 'Different Strokes'? I just don't understand - bring back Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges, and we're talking $100,000,000 easy!

Okay,... now that's funny

Didn't like the first one. Won't see this one.

I punched a dog in the face and it bit me. And then I was like "Screw you dog. No, please, stop, STOP!" and then it bit me again. Then I was like - "What a dummy. Dogs don't know what you're saying."

yeah the first wanted had a horrible ending...

Even the trailer made the first film look terrible. Cant' say the same for POOH'S HEFFALUMP MOVIE!!! YEAH, NOW THAT WAS A PURE MODERN WORK OF ART! Seriously, I was like "Holy **** they're making a Heffalump film," and Disney was like "You bet your ****ing ass," and I cried tears of joy. I can't wait for this Da Vinci of our modern time to take such an intelligent, abstract subject such as Wanted II and make it better than the film that predated it. Will the characters be as rich as Lumpy the Heffalump? Time will tell.

Hey, everybody has to start somewhere. So this guy wrote some Disney cartoons. Who's to say that there isn't a brooding, jaded, tortured action writer somewhere in him? From the sounds of it none of you liked the first one. Sooooo the bar's been set pretty low. It can't be that hard to make it better than the first one right?

hope the second movie follows the comic more.. and have a all new cast

The first Wanted movie made 340 million WW in theaters only. It was bound to have a sequel.
I had hopes that Millar himself would write the sequel. I'm not his biggest fan, but the best parts of the first movie were those adapted straightly from the book.

"Wanted" w/out Angelina Jolie--I'll PASS...

I know, why not let Wesley know the truth? About all the super-villains, and then they can do Wanted 2 as the comic :D

No, wouldn't work anyway :( would be cool though :D

"...the in-development sequel is based on the comic series..."

In what ways exactly? the first one followed the comics in the first like 20 minutes and then it got completely lost. Now every character exept for Wesley is dead. How exactly is "Wanted 2" even ABLE to be based on the comic?

This is just about the bull**** that this sentence is. I actually don't mind if it's not based on the comic because it was one of the worst comics I've ever read. I mean, regular guy becomes mass murdering sociopath in a couple of days because some strangers told him his father used to do it, too. Really?

I really enjoyed the graphic novel, but hated how much the first wanted deviated from it. Make it more like the novel with mister rictus, imp, ****whit

Posted by: ted on April 17, 2009 at 07:22:40

No Mark Millar...ill pass thanks.

A real adaptation of Wanted would be nigh on impossible but frickin fantastic.

I thought the first one was a good film. That's before I read the novel?! Hmmm, not so sure about a sequel.......

The first one was trash. I even like PWZ better

Posted by: Ben on April 17, 2009 at 08:25:50

Not sure if you guys are fans, but M. Night Shyamalan started out by writing the film adaptation of Stuart Little afterall...

Posted by: Stumblin on April 17, 2009 at 08:41:07

Shyamalan is a terrible directer/writer, he came out with two movies that amounted to anything, Unbreakable and Sixth Sense, other than that everything he's ever made has been pure crap.

On Wanted, I can't believe they are making a sequel, it was moderately entertaining but nowhere near close to needing another movie. I wouldn't watch the first one again if it was on HBO.

WTF????? They should hire me to write the script....whats next?....from the writers of Babar and the 7 retarded Dwarves brings us his rendition of Superman???????????

Spoilers ahead:

Everyone's dead. All the not-so-good guys. All the bad guys. Only that guy survived. I get the feeling the motivation for the 2nd movie is gonna defy the laws of stupidity. And that's saying something.

Posted by: Gorillamonsooon on April 17, 2009 at 09:02:29

i totally agree with batfan...the comic was completely dumb....the "hero" of the book rapes women and kills innocent poeple, out of bordem?....come on...and if the movie followed the book it would be like a crappy SCI- Fi channell movie starring lorenzo lamas or Lou diamond phillips, seriously..oh and the movie was ok..just ok

Posted by: Batzarro http://bestgeekeverpr.blogspot.com/ on April 17, 2009 at 09:04:19

Still, gotta point out: Writers are writers. If the guy wrote the Heffalump movie or this week's episode of Flavor of Love, that's not necessarily mean he can't outwrite the first Wanted(which is easy).
