The First 22 Minutes of Watchmen Watched
Source:CHUD
December 16, 2008

Devin Faraci at CHUD.com got a chance to watch the first 22 minutes of Warner Bros. Pictures' Watchmen this weekend at Butt-Numb-A-Thon in Austin and has described what he saw in full. Here's a clip:

It will look and feel like a real movie.

That's a weird thing to say, but there are lots of people out there who, having only seen the trailers released to the public, are jumping to the conclusion that Zack Snyder has made a Watchmen filled with speed ramping and flashy money shots. From what I've seen this isn't even remotely true at all. The footage is stylish - well shot, with rich visuals and dynamic compositions - but it looked more like a modern take on a noir film than anything else. What I saw was moody, sometimes muted. Snyder allows his takes to be long, eschewing a quick cut style that many seem to think would rule the day in this film. The 22 minutes I saw didn't feel like an action film at all.

This is suppoed to be an action film? I didn't think the graphoc Novel was at all. It was a very ewll prepared plot and complex story but not an actiony.

I agree. This isn't action by any means...I think and hope Zach knows what he's doing. So far, it sounds good...

Great news!!! That's exactly how I envisioned a Watchmen film, pure film noir!

I guess this is good news... Hopefully what we have been hearing from the early screeners are true.

Devin is such a douche. Have you read Watchmen? It's not an action orientated book at all dumb ****

Posted by: bluntt on December 16, 2008 at 22:52:25

Sounds great. March can't come soon enough!

Posted by: njxwf on December 16, 2008 at 23:02:35

Devin is saying that it not being an action movie is a good thing. he's trying to shut up all u fanboys out there that are skeptical of snyder's work.

Watchmen is an Alan Moore novel-based story comic book that this feature film is based on I have no doubts about this film.

i think it sounds pretty good so far. it sounds like its as close as can be to the novel. cant wait for it to come out

Posted by: David on December 16, 2008 at 23:34:10

The book is no way an action comic, more like a good ol' fashioned gumshoe kind of mystery book with superheroes.

I think the dude from CHUD was expecting something vastly different, sounds like Zach's on the money.

Another Spirit bomb, eh?

Actually, this is a really good sign. 'Watchmen' is not really that much of an action graphic novel... only in several scenes. (I've read it several times.) It's quite different than '300' (which is quite violent). Trust me, this is good news!!!

This review didnt insinuate that the movie will suck...it insinuated that it unfolds as well thought out, thoughtful --

just as the graphic novel is a multi-layered well thought out story...personally i didnt likke 300 but this film looks visually promising ..hopefully it will retain character development that made the novel fascinating and intriguing social commentary

I was actually at the show this weekend, at the Drafthouse and all I can say is that this film will be epic. I dont wanna spoil anything, but good God....

Also, "I Love You Man" is ****ing hilarious.

Posted by: igotmine on December 17, 2008 at 00:14:32

cant wait for this, at darkest knight read the article it says what was in the footage

Posted by: nelson on December 17, 2008 at 00:18:14

go to the chud link he says it in great detail basically after the fight scene/video montage of past heroes :

shows cops in Blake's apartment aswell as the store owner spraying the blood away

Rorschach looks inside comedian's closet they show an upclose of crime buster photo

then pan back its the same photo but now they show hollis mason's place with him telling dan some stories of the past

dan goes home to see his door kicked in thinking its an intruder he is alert but it's Rorschach with mask pulled up eating some beans

footage ends with the you quit scene in dans basement

WHAT THE HELL

The only people who found reason to complain probably lack the reading capacity for Watchmen to begin with. I think that's true about all the whiners so far.
