Mark Millar on Wanted 2... and 3
September 2, 2008
Mark Millar talked to Newsarama about Universal Pictures making a Wanted 2 and possibly Wanted 3.
The first film, based on Millar's graphic novel, was directed by Timur Bekmambetov and stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Terence Stamp, Thomas Kretschmann, Common and Angelina Jolie. It has earned $258.3 million worldwide.
Millar says he was approached right after the premiere by producer Mark Platt about his thoughts on continuing the story:
"What I will be doing is providing them with a very small amount of stuff for a story, and that will be used as a basic story that they can build from. It will be a small outline that can possibly be picked apart and not used – but it will be something exclusively for the second film, and no one will ever really see it."
Given that the film version of the story differs from the comic book version in a number of ways (some quite substantial) Millar's outline will be set in the film's continuity, but will reach back to the comics. "It will be some of the stuff that we didn't utilize from the first book for the movie – like chapters three and four – there will be some stuff from that, so in the loosest sense it will be based on the book, but only very little," Millar said.

It better be good is all I'm saying. As much as Wanted differed from the comic, I still enjoyed it as a popcorn flick.

GO SEE TDK one more time! Just do it for the movie so more will be produced(quickly). Its not for the sake of the movie. But for the sake for another coming out sooner!

CrowdMaster:
a) If you make a film ever-increasingly successful, it puts pressure on the studio/writer to have something better, and under pressure most people generally crack. It won't rush the process of making the film and with the now-extremely high expectations it's only highly possibly that the next one won't out perform it, meaning it'll most likely automatically get hated because that's how fanboy's are. No film is 'nice', 'cool', 'enjoyable'. It's either "omg that f***in' sucked, director should die" or "omg I LOVED it... 'til I saw TDK"
and b) Find an appropriate thread. This is about WANTED.
As much as I loved TDK, relentless TDK 'see it again' enforcers like you encourage me to lose interest in watching it again due to the instinct of rebelling a fad.

I don't know, man. I'm at the point now where I'm looking at my $9.00 and thinking;
"Hmm. Go see The Dark Knight for the umpteenth time, or get a BK Veggie Burger with large fries and a Coke? Or maybe put a down-payment on that graphic novel I've been wanting since last year? Or maybe take the old lady out for some iced cream and a nice woodland walk?"
I don't know dude (Crowdmaster), it's been a long summer and Hollywood took a lot of my money and didn't give me no free gas, holmes. They ain't paid my rent, or bought me no cerveza for me and my crew.
The way I see it, TDK owes me. Christian Bale, it's time for you to pay what you owe, n*gga. You can pimp slap yo mama all you want, but you owe me 17 hours, and like, $50 bucks, dog. Pay what you owe. Pay what you owe.
**On topic** Mark Millar rulez!
Harish, you ain't nothing but cash money, dude.

I think I might hate TDK now because of people like CrowdMaster. It really sucks when idiots won't shut up about a movie, the same thing happened with Fight Club. How many morons starting doing their own Fight Clubs after that movie came out? I can't take it anymore. I think I'd rather a movie be universally hated, than have millions of obsessed losers constantly talking about the movie at inappropriate times. So screw that movie for the time being. I'll start watching it again when it stops being a fad. "It's cool to like The Dark Knight!"

Why not make Wanted 2 and 3? It's mindless entertainment for mindless people that want to be entertained. I'm still stunned that they actually CHOSE to abandon the super villain concept from the source material, which was something that set the franchise apart from the rest.

I enjoyed both the comic book (which was absolutely brillant) and the movie.
I don't really want to see #2 and #3 because I really thought #1 was good in itself.

how can you be surprised they left out the supervillian?? its a freaking giant piece of crap. everyone knows that would never work in a big hollywood movie production

Wanted was alright, they were kind of pushing it with the bullet going a full 360 degrees. That part was just ridiculously comical. To be honest, I don't care much for any sequels, it was a fun action flick, but it wasn't anything more than that. It would be like making a sequel to True Lies or Demolition Man, at least that's the category I put this film in.

I don't know about you guys but I"m getting a wee bit sick of the whole slow motion bullet time b.s. I think they should just leave that movie alone I mean the whole "LOOM OF FATE" Thing was enough It had me going Ok, I've seen enough. It depresses me when writers let their concepts be exploited so horribly and when Morgan Freeman does films like this.

I am all for another Wanted if it's a sequel and not a prequel....perhaps without Jolie's ridiculously untalented, pathetic, and wooden performance I could enjoy the fun action flick it was meant to be

I think if there wasn't a comic the movie was loosely based on, I would say this movie was great. I haven't read the comic (just the story outline on Wiki) and the movie was still fun and entertaining.
How can they do a 2nd when all the major players are .......... (that's for those who haven't seen the movie)
Posted by: Space Monkey on September 2, 2008 at 12:52:35
I loved Wanted. It was great summer fun. I don't care if the next 2 are completely unrelated to the storyline as long as they have James McAvoy as Wesley Gibson. Be nice to have the same director also...
