Wanted 2 Already in the Works
July 15, 2008
Variety says that Universal Pictures has reupped Wanted producer Marc Platt for five years, keeping Marc Platt Productions on the lot through late 2012.
The deal comes as Platt begins work on Wanted 2 with director Timur Bekmambetov and writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas.
For Wanted 2, Platt acknowledged that the creative team is still working on the challenge of continuing the story after most of the principal characters ended the original in no position for an encore. But the film was designed as a potential franchise, Universal production president Donna Langley said. The intention is to get James McAvoy back.
"The writers are at work already, and those creative discussions are taking place," said Platt, who is producing once again with Jim Lemley.
That duo also is teamed with Bekmambetov on a Universal adaptation of the Christian Gossett sci-fi graphic novel The Red Star, which has a script draft by Matthew Sand.
Platt also just set up a remake of the 1973 rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, and Platt and the studio are taking formative steps toward a screen adaptation of "Wicked," the stage musical that Universal co-finances and Platt produces with David Stone. Book writer Winnie Holzman will write the script.

That's awesome news, I respect anyone's opinion that didn't like the movie but I just got back from seeing it for a third time in theaters, and it's a blast to watch, I personally am looking forward to a sequel. Yeah, its not Oscar-worthy, yeah it wasn't a GREAT film...but its just a movie you gotta sit back and get lost in. WANTED 2!!!! (Oh, and The Dark Knight in just 2 days now, can't wait!)

wow. I'm shocked. All of the hype that surrounded this movie, and I was not impressed in the least. I never read the comic but even for an action film, I sat and shook my head throughout it. The one part I did like was in the office with the keyboard. Aside from that...I'm drawing a blank for anything else that I found entertaining.

I agree with Robert, this movie was awesome and I think it's great news that there is going to be a sequel! This is one of the best(not the best, but in the top 5) movies this summer. Apparently more people liked this movie than didn't, that is why it made so much mney they are already planning a sequel.

No, executives like it. Our opinion doesn't matter so long as someone is funding them.

Wanted was a good flick....but as for a sequel, I just don't know about this one guys.

Here is how you do the sequel. Fix what was broken, and go back to the comic book. Simply explain in a matrix type way how "the rabbit hole goes much deeper." Have a meeting where everybody else in the Fraternity is there (kind of like the scene in the comics where Wesley is being officially brought into the fraternity) and keep going from there. Some people in the fraternity can simply want to dominate the world and kill everybody and Welsey has to stop it. And please, no more healing pool.
AND BRING IN MR RICTUS!

Wanted did surprise me. I read the graphic novel after I saw the movie and I know why the fans disliked this adaptation.
I had as much fun watching Wanted as I did Batman Begins. Now I won't put those 2 movies together in overall quality but I did feel the "popcorn movie" effect. Now as for a sequel...I wouldn't mind one. For those who have seen the flick I have to ask this...what kind of story telling can Universal give us after seeing how Wanted ended?

i actually really liked the wanted movie and thought it was really well done. i've never read the comic and dont intend to because it seems cheesy so i have no problem with it no be faithful to the story which i guess is a good thing. i think having everyone die at the end was a great move and made the movie perfect, but it puts doubts in my head though on whether or not a sequal would make the first one now stupid and meaningless...

Posted by: jboy on July 15, 2008 at 02:54:27
they shouldve stuck to the how the comic was

Hinkle,
That's not cool. All you had to do was correct the guy not insult him.

Howly Cowness, what happened to the great comic book franchise called WANTED??
I am pretty sure its a good, awesome, descent, whatever you want to call it action movie, not disagreeing over there, but its just another cool action movie with the name "WANTED" on it!
Marc Silvestri(For those of you who doesn't read the comic book and keep saying the movie is cool and awesome, he's the guy who owns top cow, the company that publishes and owns Wanted and Mark Millar wrote it) said its not going to work in movie format if its stay true to its comic book version, why? cause its to Immoral for people to watch?? tell that to people who made gore and porn movies.
Hellboy succeeds cause Magnolia(thats right non-comic book people, hes the dude who created hellboy) always keeps an eye to his creations all the time, even throughout the whole process of the movie when it was being made, from concepts to storyline to finish product, Thats why Hellboy succeed(both movie that is),..Why cant Millar and Silvestri learn from this??

Jay said, "No, executives like it. Our opinion doesn't matter so long as someone is funding them."
Actually, that's not true. Without audience support, sequels don't get greenlit. The reason a Wanted sequel is in the works is because it made a decent profit, which means a lot of people went to see it. As fans of the book, we can gripe all we want, but diehard comic book fans don't constitute the majority of moviegoers. We're a very small minority, actually.
Bottom line...they're making a sequel because most audience members liked the film regardless of how true it remained to the book.

HanBob said, "Marc Silvestri...and Mark Millar...said its not going to work in movie format if its stay true to its comic book version, why? cause its to Immoral for people to watch?? tell that to people who made gore and porn movies."
Gore and porn movies are made for very little money and are directed at a very specific audience. Making their money back is virtually guaranteed. Making a movie on a summber blockbuster scale is extremely expensive, which means the film must appeal to a very large crowd. Silvestri and Millar are correct and any industry person (whether they like the book or not) will agree. Having a lead character who steals, rapes, kills, and has no moral compass whatsoever is not going to sit well with the majority of movie goers. Personally, I love the book. And I know many folks on here do as well. But we'll never see that movie.
HanBob also said, "Hellboy succeeds cause Magnolia(thats right non-comic book people, hes the dude who created hellboy) always keeps an eye to his creations all the time."
Actually, the guy's name is "Mignola." "Magnolia" is the name of a flower and the name of a film with Tom Cruise. And despite the quality of the Hellboy films, the first one only made 99 million worldwide with a 66 million budget. That's 33 million in profits as opposed to the 176 million worldwide gross Wanted has gotten so far with a 75 million budget - 101 million in profits. Not knocking Hellboy, but Wanted (the film) was designed for a mass audience while Hellboy was more of a gamble.

Why do I feel like I'm in the minority when I say I LOVED Wanted?! I thought it was pretty bad-ass but I also haven't read the graphic novel...ANYWAY
Why has no one touched on this?!
A JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR REMAKE?! Holy underwear batman!! (haha)
Bringing WICKED to the silver screen would be just as bad-ass!!
Yes lads and lasses, I am cultures and I enjoy musicals

You might want to take a look at yourself there champ. The word you're looking for is "your". The way you wrote it translates to "you are spelling and grammar needs a lot of work."

Don't see much left for a sequel, Its just him and I'm sure sooner or later he'll end up on the "list"
Posted by: shinlyle on July 15, 2008 at 08:28:52
Wow...the real challenge will be, "How can they make the movie even MORE stupid"?
Maybe they can curve rockets and knives in this one, just to make it completely stupid.
Posted by: Your Name Here on July 15, 2008 at 08:36:30
They'll slap a sequel on anything that makes money, whether or not a franchise has exhausted the story it's trying to tell. In the case of Wanted, there's nowhere to go but a further deviation from the source material. This is NOT good news unless we hear a casting call for **** head.
