UPDATE: Michael Bay Announces Transformers 3 Release Date!

Director Michael Bay has announced on his official website the release date for Transformers 3 and says they are jumping right back into it! Oh, and he included a note to Megan Fox as well...

Well its official: We have a great Transformers 3 story. The release date is now July 1st 2011. Not 2012.

Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters.

P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back. I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture. Please consult your Physician when working under my direction because some side effects can occur, such as mild dizziness, intense nausea, suicidal tendencies, depression, minor chest hair growth, random internal hemorrhaging and inability to sleep. As some directors may be hazardous to your health, please consult your Doctor to determine if this is right for you.

Pain and Gain is right after shooting of Trans 3.

Michael

This puts it up against the Peter Berg-directed Battleship, also based on a Hasbro property, so we're guessing Universal will be moving that adaptation somewhere else.

Transformers made $709.7 million worldwide and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has made $832.4 million.

The summer of 2011 is shaping up to be quite amazing. You can check out the May through August releases that year here. (And don't forget Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is scheduled for Summer 2011 but doesn't have a firm date yet!)

UPDATE: Universal and Hasbro have already moved Battleship from July 1, 2011 to August 5, 2011, so Transformers 3 now has the spot to itself.

There is no god.

Hell yeah!!
By the way, why waste time writing a story, just reuse the one from part 1 (just like they did with RotF). :P

So July 1, 2011 is the next time I will want to shoot myself in the face?

I'll make a note of that.

Posted by: Chujong on October 1, 2009 at 11:10:59

Oh, one more thing, no more Megan Fox or better yet, no more human characters. Just have the robots head back to Cybertron and have an all out brawl-to-the-death. That would be EPIC!!!

Posted by: fettastic on October 1, 2009 at 11:17:06

If we give Transformers 3 a Billion dollars and it's just as dumb as the last one, we don't deserve to exist as a species and I hope robots come and wipe us out.

Oh dear. I thought Bay quit the franchise because he was sick of getting stereotyped? Ugh.

Posted by: Someguy on October 1, 2009 at 11:35:38

Let the Trash talking begin. Everyone will gripe about how much the last 2 sucked and how much this one will suck, then rush out and see it opening weekend.

Wait and see it make over 900 million world wide.

I suggest he keeps the robots as robots. No need to see anatomically correct robots anymore. I want unicron and galvatron!!!!!!!!!Ultra magnus and hot rod also.

I guess it'll only be a trilogy and not a franchise.

Posted by: Early bird on October 1, 2009 at 11:49:20

leave meagan fox at home!!!! will this film do as well with some real competition this time!!

Posted by: Wyngarde on October 1, 2009 at 11:55:20

"We have a great story"?

Lemme guess: More dogs humping? More junky piles of crap sitting in the background while bad actors carry the non-story? More Shia saying "No"? More dumb extra characters that out-number any Transformers? OOOH! Can the mom turn to prostitution this time? The really long drug scene was a blast! Maybe we can show people pooping on each other? You haven't done that yet.

This is what Bayformers fans like.

Why even bother? The sequel sucked and Megan Cocks was useless in the movie;all she provided was the jiggle factor.

Posted by: brute on October 1, 2009 at 11:59:25

@ Sarasbigdaddy...

So you're saying she's actually smart?!

Ohh....that would explain all the stuff she's said recently. She just has a smarter brain than the average movie star...

yessss good movies rise bad ones fall aka jennifers body which means megan over rated can take her body else wear we want to see a really good story and great robot fighting bring us back to the greatness of the first movie with action like the second

Now 2011 is getting really crowded with (comic)films. I think i won't be seeing it, a lot better stuff to watch that year in cinema.

Posted by: schillah on October 1, 2009 at 12:08:04

Wyngarde I usually don't like your comments but I agree with you on that. What you mentioned ruined the movie. I did enjoy it though, just wish they would of taken out the comedy.

Bay has some explaining to do after ROTF.

Posted by: mojojackson on October 1, 2009 at 12:14:47

What are we going to see in the next one, robots in minstrel face paint? The president revealed to be an Islamic terrorist in league with the decepticons?

Note to Michael Bay: Keep your politics and cultural predjudices out of the next film. The public is about as interested in your ignorant worldview as they are in Paris Hilton's. Make a damn Transformers movie for once. Social commentary's not your thing, nor is it appropriate for a movie about kids' toys.

Posted by: Highrollin on October 1, 2009 at 12:21:05

funny... WATCHING a Bay movie has the same side effects.

Posted by: Joe on October 1, 2009 at 12:28:07

Wyngarde, you nailed it.

"talk to hasbro about new characters". Yeah, cause that is exactly what the second movie was lacking. Come on, there are new characters in RoTF that still haven't been introduced.

Posted by: Justice on October 1, 2009 at 12:29:42

How about an autobot/decepticon version of the Rock. With Sean Connery as Optimus Prime, and Nick cage as bumble bee. Ed Harris will be Megatron, and the decepticons will hold Sam and his girlfriend hostage on Alcatraz.

Scrap that...Just make Metal Gear!

Posted by: Mike.D's on October 1, 2009 at 12:41:22

We can all sit here an bag on it if we want but come July 1'st we are all going to see it regardless?? you didn't know how bad ROFT would be so of course to bag on the next one you will have to see it.

I'm trying to be serious you still would see it right?

Posted by: mojojackson on October 1, 2009 at 12:53:59

Mike.D's:

Granted, I criticize Bay and Fox quite a bit, but I admit, I'll see the third film as well. But not for Fox, not for Bay, not for Shia--for the one great thing about the franchise--it's true star: Peter Cullen.

Also, if one is going to complain, it's best to know what you're complaining about.
