$300 Million in 14 Days for Transformers Sequel
Source:Paramount Pictures
July 8, 2009
After only 14 days in release, the worldwide hit Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen became the second-fastest film in movie history to earn $300 million in U.S. ticket sales, eclipsing the previous record-holder Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, by two days. From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg, the Paramount Pictures release trails only The Dark Knight in this record-setting achievement.
"Moviegoers everywhere propelled the film to this great success, paving the way for a phenomenal run," said Paramount Pictures Vice Chairman Rob Moore.
2007's Transformers earned $319.2 million in its theatrical run, and more than $700 million worldwide. The sequel has already taken in over $600 million worldwide to date, conquering several records including:
* Biggest Wednesday-Sunday opening of all time.
* Biggest Wednesday opening of all time.
* Paramount's biggest international opening of all time.
* 3rd biggest worldwide opening weekend of all time.
* 4th biggest international opening of all time.

great movie deserves big money

Transformers deserves all the money, but it was about 20 to 30 minutes too long. The battle in the desert to revive Optimus drug on too long. Then he bulks up and wins in a minute, bad ending. The female transformer should have been in there longer with an explanation, Star Scream should be working to take over the Decepticons.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen grossing another $300 Million Dollars man that is amazing. Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks are going to be on top of the world. I would have loved to have seen Street Fighter gross Mega big-budget billions through Universal Pictures. Yes, everyone Street Fighter was going to be a Multi-Billion dollar budget with Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia as the already lead roles. It, was still a success but made over $100 Million Worldwide. Mortal Kombat the live action film grossed over $ 100 Million Worldwide as well these are my 2 favorite video game feature films of the 1990's. Video game based movies are going to get alot better if done right. 2010, Tekken and Prince Of Persia.

It was a great movie, a bit long and where in the hell was barricade? I see everyone except barricade. They produce toys and replicas of him, but nowhere in sight for the movie.

for all those who say it beat TDK is wrong as the article states it trails behind TDK. Learn to read people.

And it keeps going and going and going. Yes...
I think who compares the Dark Knight with the Transformers don't have a single clue what the Dark Knight is about. Advice: See the movie. And then you will see you can't compare the greatness of the Dark Knight with another topic wich are the Transformers.

I seriously hope that this will top TDK soon. Then TDK fanboys will learn that box office gross doesnt mean quality and finally stop shoving this fact into our faces and saying it was the best movie ever
(P.S, i loved both Transformers 2 and TDK, but neither qualify as the best movie ever and both were seriously overhyped. I also know alot of other people dont like T2 so this will be a great wake up call to them)

awesome news! i thought the movie was great. i still think there could be more emphasis on the transformers, but overall, i loved the movie.

Haha! I was gonna say something bland and slightly negative about the film but this deserves a repost.

Why is everyone comparing it to TDK? Seriously, that was based on a Comic Book! Transformers was based off a Toyline! Think about it?

I'm get down with TDK & T2 both. As for their box office gross, don't care, it doesn't pay my bills. Peace yall.
Posted by: curtis on July 8, 2009 at 20:39:14
yeah it made alot of money in a short amount of time. Lets see if it has the legs that TDK had. By the way I loved T2. I thought it was awesome.

this movie sucked and to speak this crime against film making in the same sentence as THE DARK KNIGHT is a mortal sin.
Posted by: Omar on July 8, 2009 at 21:08:47
I have seen many people here post the 19% or 20% Rotten Tomatoes score here and use that as justification for how bad the movie is.
I have learned in my life, that critics don't know anything.
One of my favorite movies of all time, Star Trek II The Wrath of Kahn was torn apart by critics left and right when it was released, yet to this day Wrath of Kahn for all Trek fans remains one of the best movies in the series and Kahn's villian has been the standard for all other villians in the Trek universe.
Just see the Transformers movie for yourself, if you like it fine and if you don't then fine again but don't bash either by saying your stupid or an idiot for liking the film or not liking it.
I saw it, consider myself intelligent and liked it alot. The action in it was insane and the CGI was incredible. Definite plus is Megan Fox for the eye candy. She is HOT!!!
I never ever thought I would be seeing a live action Transformers movie done like this when the cartoon was out.
The same with Wolverine and other Superhero movies. The technology today is allowing us the awesome experience to see these 2D characters brought to life.
Man, I remember (and this will show my age) being happy as hell with the 70's version of SpiderMan and the Incredible Hulk.

Glory days, Glory days! Bay complement you on the robots & the action sequences.. you are a master at this(love take one of your film classes at USC.)your story telling, well, your story telling just sucks.. i mean no offense, but it does.. however moaned about the robots not looking like the originals, but i got over it, and i accept this movie for what it is and i loved every robot scene minute(not the human actors)of it.. when your done putting buying another home in the bahamas id liked to see transformers 3 please. Optimusss!!!

honestly.....as much as im happy about this bcuz i definatly loved this movie, i dont think a transformers3 will do as good as this. bay and the crew would have to work 10x harder, but still, im pretty sure i wouldnt be disappointed in a 3rd movie bcuz im confident that the crew will do awesome

Will wonders never cease? I don't think critics take sci-fi movies seriously because of their "lack of plot" Hey Ebert, if I wanted a plot, I would read a book, but I want mindless explosions.

Mediocre film with too many characters, 30 minutes too long and making more money than it deserves due to the massive undeserved hype. Sounds exactly like TDK.
Posted by: RevengeOfTheGOBOTS on July 8, 2009 at 23:31:58
This movie was so bad I might as well slammed my face in every pile of **** at the Zoo. WTF did they do to Devastor? Starscream still looks like whatchamacallit in robot form.
Seriously is it that F**kin hard to make a Robot in CGI? I believe this movie was just old footage from the first with a few new scenes.
Don't even get me started on JetFire you SOB just say NO TO DRUGS Michael Bay. Out of the 3 hrs there was maybe 15 to minutes max of greatness. The following scenes, Sideswipe, Sideways, and Optimus taking care of business in the forest.
Just use the damn 80's toyline of robots not these generic knock off GOBOTS!!!
