UPDATE: Transformers Breaks Wednesday Record with $60.6M!
Source:Variety
June 25, 2009

Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen earned $60.6 million its first day, easily breaking the opening day record for a Wednesday release at the domestic box office.

The previous record-holder was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which grossed $44.2 million in its first day.

The $60.6 million is the second-biggest single day at the domestic box office ever, trailing only The Dark Knight's $67.2 million and surpassing Spider-Man 3's $59.8 million.

"Revenge of the Fallen," playing in more than 4,200 theaters in the U.S., has a strong shot at surpassing the $152.4 million earned by Spider-Man 2 in its first five days. That film opened on the same Wednesday in 2004. The 5-day record is held by The Dark Knight, which made $203.8 million its first five days last July.

The opening day haul in the U.S. included $16 million in midnight runs, the best run ever for a film released on a Wednesday. And it's the third-best of all time after The Dark Knight ($18.5 million) and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith ($16.9 million).

I guess cool really is all I can say as well, in the 3rd one I would like to see less burps, farts, humping and ball hanging robots. Other than that.. not bad

One Word!!! Awsome!!!

Brilliant. Michael Bay is doing a spectacular work on the Transformers franchise. The way the action scenes are made, his storytelling and the CGI details/sounds of the robots are amazing. Specially the dinamic way the robots transform from a vehicle to a robot and vice-versa and the velocity of action on it is tremendous. Congratulations and expecting for the next one :))

The summer continues to drag on...
When do the good movies start coming out again?

Posted by: napoleon on June 25, 2009 at 11:16:40

it will break that sm3 & dark knight record. I'M STILL GONA GO SEE IT. CAUSE ITS NOT THE MEANING OF LIFE TYPE MOVIE,AS ALL CRITICS HAVE POINTED OUT. WHAT THEY SUPPOSED TO DO REINTRODUCE THEMSELVES AGAIN. IT'S TRANSFORMERS, A EPIC SUMMER MOVIE. WITH THAT SAID IT SHOULDN'T / BEDDA NOT BLOW EITHER.

it was good, i agree with idocta

the story may be weak, but the cg and action scenes are top notch. Whatever happened to the good old days when we did not expect anything more? I miss those days. Event movies do not have to be considered classics. It is very hard anyway when you have to compete with so many movies.

Its going to follow the same pattern as Spiderman 3. We all knew it sucked, but for some strange reason, everyone still went to go see it and made it worthy of yet another sequel. This movie wasn't bad, but it was far from being at the same level as the first one.

Posted by: Zaovisier on June 25, 2009 at 11:22:10

well, at the very least, TF 2 is living up to its commercial heritage. Even if it beats TDK and SM2, both are better films *(Re:napolean - the records are held by TDK and Spiderman TWO, not three).

Posted by: Shayera on June 25, 2009 at 11:22:53

I'll be seeing it in 2 hours.

Posted by: Wildsyde7 on June 25, 2009 at 11:23:19

As for "Dev's Balls", I had flashbacks to Batman and Robin-esque camp. The next one will prolly feature Autobot nipples.

Posted by: Blasek on June 25, 2009 at 11:24:22

action was good... story weak... the lack of screen time for the auto bots weak... and how mix master and scavenger (etc) were fighting along side devastator... wtf Bay you were supposed to save our summer... At least it was better than Wolverine.

CGI and Effects WERE top notch.

However, it is dissapointing that I will not be taking my kids to see the movie, and they are going to be very dissapointed at that. I am not going to take them to see a movie that:

1 - Is not a war movie, but about 4500 American Soldiers are killed in it from various services.

2 - Needs drug use, dogs attempting sex, and racial slurs in order to get a laugh.

3 - Lasts 2.5 hours when it could have been half that and told the same story.

I am sorry.. but I am in the Army. When I went to see this I was excited. When I left, I was dissapointed, and ticked off at Michael Bay AND Hasbro. They took a beloved toy franchise and turned it into something dirty and painful to watch for a lot of reasons.

Bad form Bay. Very bad form.

glad to hear it...like a big middle finger to all the old school fans that are mad. it wasnt perfect but at the same time wasnt bad. way better then wolverine

Posted by: napoleon on June 25, 2009 at 11:29:11

CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT. HOPE THERE IS AT LEAST SOME KIND OF PLOT, LOTS OF BATTLES AS OPPOSED TO THE VERY FEW IN THE FIRST ONE, THAT REALLY HAPPENED RIGHT BEFORE THE CREDITS ROLL. & NOT TO MUCH WRECKING BALL CROTCH, WTF, WHO OR WHERE WAS STEVEN SPEILBERG TO TELL MIC BAY NO ON THAT ONE. OR TOO MANY AWKWARD/STUPID JOKES WHEN THEY AREN'T NEEDED.

ACTION MOVIE!!!!!!!!

It's the #2 movie this year next to Star Trek in my opinion. I agree there was a lot of unnecessary content in the movie that was rather distracting, but keep in mind that isn't all Michael Bay's fault. While he is the director, he is not the one fronting the production cash. Many of the things we all hate about these movies comes from the business minded personalities behind the creative guys. The reason The Dark Knight did so well is because Christopher Nolan was given creative license to do whatever he wanted. If Michael Bay had been given a similar creative license without interference from money hungry executives, I'm certain it would have been much better.

Just saw this with Shaq and we loved it...

All of you guys who hates this movie are just jelous because Devastater has bigger balls than you, and not just any balls, but balls of steal!!

You gotta have balls to go watch this movie especially after all the one's who don't like this movie's negative reviews. Where's your balls? Kick the hater's weak balls and go see the movie!

Ever since the Dark knight, why do everyone expect every action movie to be like the Dark Knight? Who cares! I want the movie be it's own, not have a robot running around with his face painted as a clown, or robots to have batwings. Get off of Batman's jock and get on the robot's instead, there's bigger!

I'm pretty sure it's going to make even more in the comming days. Just an awsome movie and I came out very happy to have seen this movie on a midnight which I have never done. I never see any of the movies that come out on the mindnight showing but this is the first time I did it and I'm glad I did because it was really good. It's a Transformers movie so it's main thing is the action and robots and we got pleanty of it a lot. Congratulations to Micheal Bay and everyone involved, we got another awsome Transformer movie.

I am an old school fan I am not going to moan, but I didn't enjoy the new film. The first had almost a charm, but this one lacked. Yeah I wanted it updated I like the look of prime the old truck just would not work, but I felt it just lost its way, yeah we all enjoy no brianer action films, but this deserves to be more. If you enjoyed it fine, but that is merely my opinion I don't wish to change anyone elses mind

It delievered exactly what it was suppose to, a good time. Have fun with it.

Posted by: Optimus Prime on June 25, 2009 at 11:48:19

This movies was awesome, best of the summer. Sucks that nothing was at the end of the credits to link to a sequel. I could have atleast settled for "Why is the moon so big today? OMG, THATS NOT THE MOON! Its Galactus...err...Unicron!"

Posted by: JOEmega The Omnipotent on June 25, 2009 at 11:49:08

Luke Keith- believe it or not, it probably all is Micheal Bay's fault...TF2 and TF1 had his cocky, childish, immature stamp all over it. In fact, he's the one that suggests to add the unnecessary content because HE thinks it's funny. AND, since Bay is popular, the business minded people agree with him...sadly the rest of us are left to suffer.

Posted by: chris on June 25, 2009 at 11:55:30

This basically gave a big F@#K YOU to all you haters. All you guys are doing is jumping on the critics bandwagon cause you think its the cool thing to do. Bay keep doing what your doing.
