Second Tranformers 2 Set Report From Virginia

Scooper 'drx' is back with another update on the Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen filming at the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum in Virginia:

I'm back one last time with a report about what I saw filmed at the museum on Saturday. Some potentially spoilerish stuff will follow, so be aware.

I arrived around 10 and stayed until they broke for lunch (around 2, 2:30). Got to see a lot of stuff filmed, it was really quite interesting stuff. Shia, Megan Fox, and John Turturro were all on set.

All filming pretty much took place around the SR-71 Blackbird today. When I first got there, Michael Bay was being pushed on a cart with a camera filming an RC car, an RC monster truck to be exact. It would roll past the side of the Blackbird and stop at the front. After several times doing this, Shia and Megan would then run and follow the RC truck along the plan to the front (Shia was holding what I can only describe as a plastic spoon probably standing in for something digital later). When he got to the front he would hold it up to the nose of the plane.

Potentially big SPOILERS may be here in this next part, but the next bit filmed was John Turturro and that unknown actor in the green hoodie from yesterday filming a scene facing the front of the plane. After some flashes of light, Turturro freaks out and yells "Decepticon! Get behind the MIG!". So it's official, the Blackbird is a Decepticon, or at least that's what the characters think.

After that they took a long time setting up and filming the RC car rolling straight towards the nose of the plane and stopping. They then placed a two foot tall cutout of a robot (what the RC car will transform into) in its place and took some shots to get references for the FX team. And finally, they had the car roll towards the plane and stop, then Shia crawled into view and held up his "spoon" to the nose of the plane.

The last couple of scenes I saw before the broke for lunch was a scene with Megan Fox. It was far away from where we were allowed to stand and I couldn't hear any dialogue but the tiny robot cut out was standing off camera and she was looking down at it while talking. And lastly, Shia stepped in the scene next to her and was yelling at someone off camera (though again I couldn't hear any dialogue).

So there you have it. I'm pretty sure they are done filming here. I'll ask my friend about what he saw them film in the afternoon and will pass it on if it seems interesting enough.

I cannot wait for this movie. The first one was incredible!

Posted by: achinn on June 9, 2008 at 02:47:21

So the SR-71 Blackbird is supposedly a Decepticon... interesting. I wonder which one it will be.

Posted by: goggle_boy on June 9, 2008 at 03:01:19

rumors say that the decepticon is jetfire.

Posted by: clark_kent67 on June 9, 2008 at 03:25:04

I'll say it for you guys FIRST!!!! Also Jetfire looks cool as hell

as long as we get more fat black people eating donuts and another Oc love story i am in... **** YOU! i want Transformers not humans talk robots fight.

Posted by: achinn on June 9, 2008 at 04:47:22

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Jetfire also called Skyfire in the TV series? I could be wrong though. I wonder if they will have him start out as a Decepticon, but turn over to the Autobots... like in the TV series. I do remember that though. It would be interesting to see that played out in the movies.

Posted by: rkstud632 on June 9, 2008 at 05:16:15

No in the cartoon Skyfire was a friend of Starscreams before the war. He lost control and was frozen (get it) in ice where he was found. Under Starscreams advice he thought the autobots were bad turned on the decepticons and frozen in ice by the time the episode is done

First one sucked ass. Should have been a half hour shorter. All the stupid comedy in it killed it for me. Giant robots on Shia's parents lawn and they don't noticed but then they noticed the gmen showing up. So crappy. I wanted my money back even though I saw it for free. 2nd one needs to have a lot less people in it and more robots. Why does Michael Bay keep on making movies?

The Spoon Thing can be the survived little Part of the Allspark. They use it to create new Bots.

Will you guys quit being haters to Michael Bay! I am 41 years old and loved every minute of the transformers in 1984 and beyond. Hell, I still watch them today. Michael Bay did a great job with the movie. Sure there were parts that could have been better, but there were more good than bad. Overall the movie kicked ass. Barricade dissapearing was kinda strange and Optimous took a long time to reach Sam, but overall Bay did a great job. Transformers 2 will be one kick ass ride. Everyone just shut up and enjoy the ride. Plain and simple...if you don't like Bay and dont want to see transformers 2 because he is directing ...shut the ...K up and quit whining...don't go.

I'll be there and will have my kids with me. TF2 will rock.

Posted by: Munchkin Supreme on June 9, 2008 at 07:31:39

Oh yeah...before any of you say it...yes I am old and what am I doing still watching cartoons? Well, they are great and it is a great time to be spending with your kids.

By the way, I watched the Transformers movie last year here in Kuwait. Yes, I am an American. There were more Kuwaiti citizens watching and laughing and cheering in the movie theater than I would have imagined for an American made movie that they knew nothing about the cartoon before.

Like I said before...if you don't like the director and think it is going to be a crappy movie...save your money, don't go...and shut the hell up.

the spoon thing sounds alot like a possible Geiger Counter. A Geiger Counter is a radiation detector. you will remember it being used by the S7 agent on sam w hen he said 14 rad bingo. That was a Geiger Counter so to me that is what is sounds like.

A lot of you are paranoid about Michael Bay. I think you think he doesn't care about your child-hood and your precious Transformers.

In fact, there's been talk that I am paranoid!!!

Ok, I want to stop the rumor that's been circulating that I'm paranoid. I know you think I'm paranoid. But I'm not. You know who really thinks I'm paranoid? Well of course you know but I'll tell you since you are acting like you don't know. The people that the government has following me. They are the paranoid ones! Whenever I approach them and say, "I know you are following me", they always look at me like I'm crazy. I just giggle, "Nice try but I'm not paranoid, YOU'RE paranoid". Then they usually just go back to acting like they are breast-feeding their baby.

My wife also thinks I'm paranoid. How did the government get to her?

Occasionally she'll say, "No one is following you". I always think, "Is that what they told you to say?" Then she'll stare at me, probably cause they turned her into a robot or something.

Let's be honest here. Some things just don't add up. Why do you think your computer really is running so slow? Has anyone ever really bought a Soloflex? Why do Greek salads have un-pitted olives in it? Why do you think there is a golf channel? Huh? Huh? Everyone knows using Google makes your ears grow. Think about it, the government knew who was gonna win American Idol a long time ago. It's so obvious.

There is another reason why I'm not paranoid but I can't remember it probably 'cause part of my memory was erased during my last alien abduction. The aliens also falsely believed I was paranoid. But I'm not surprised because it's so obvious that the aliens work for the government. All I really remember about the aliens is that they were green, ate Bounce dryer sheets and were so paranoid.

I'm just glad I'm not paranoid like those aliens I'm friends with now.

Couldn't the Blackbird be Shockwave?

Just because he isn't a jet in the cartoon doesn't mean he can't be one in the movie. It would really follow along the lines of military vehicles being used for the Decepticons.

Megatron isn't a gun in the movie...so why does Shockwave need to be?

Posted by: SpoonyLuv on June 9, 2008 at 10:53:52

Anyway the first movie was so so. My kids love the movie and go crazy for it when i put it on for them. On that level...for just kids...it works and works brilliantly. On the level of an older fan...it wasn’t close to what It should have been. Fenzy was idiotic, too many humans, skorpinok didn't even transform, Jazz's voice was dumb, lips on Prime, Prime got his ass handed to him by Megatron, Megatron was a jumbled mess of a robot

Posted by: FireFly's Enigma on June 9, 2008 at 10:57:18

I just hope that Starscream plays a much bigger role in this one. I would love to see him bring his cronies to earth only to find Megatron is back. Then we would have Starscream vs. Megatron vs. Optimus Prime. The most memorable moments on the cartoon was how Megatron treated Starscream and how Starscream always thought he was far superior then Megatron. I hated how easy Starscream got killed in the 86 movie. Well almost all Transformers died very easy in the 86 movie.

- I'll catch you on the flip side!

(a farewell line inspired by Steven the Comic Book Artist)

I hate people that hate people that hate people that hate movies.

There I've said it.

Posted by: jasonocus on June 9, 2008 at 11:05:42

man i wish they filmed in london or more precise south east. they could of blamed the sub station catching fire on a decepticon. this movie will b good

Posted by: FireFly's Enigma on June 9, 2008 at 11:05:45

Oh I almost forgot; regarding the Spoon...Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth. There is no spoon.

Sorry, I had to do it!

goggle_boy, jetfire is an autobot and the SR-71
is an autobot but you'll just have to see when the movie comes out

Posted by: Johny B on June 9, 2008 at 11:59:10

maybe that skybird is skywarp or thundercracker? cant wait for this movie, its gonna be awesome

Posted by: moron2themax on June 9, 2008 at 12:04:30

i've seen the scanned call sheets, and it looks like that SR-71 is indeed Jetfire.
Also that RC car could be Wheelie, cuz it mentions the character Simmons holding some kind of box, then opens it and then WHEELS comes out, maybe they meant Wheelie, that annoying high pitched, always talks in rhymes autobot with a slingshot???? Also i'm preety sure they are using the Chevy Beat concept car. I saw a set photo that shows the side view of a small green car. So i did some searching, and i found the chevy beat concept that looks exactly like the one in the set photo.
