New Transformers 2 Set Report and Photos!

Scooper 'Brian D.' sent Superhero Hype! a new report and photos of the filming for Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania:

Last night a few of us hung around until about 4am hoping we could see an explosion or two in the early morning as that's what we had heard. Just when we thought we weren't going to see anything someone from the production, probably an AD or assistant came over to the barricade and asked us if we wanted to go into the set and watch one of the pyrotechnic stunts. As you can imagine we were pretty pumped. They walked us down 2nd street to the base of the first blast furnace tower (the big crazy looking buildings). We got to see two of the Black Hawk helicopters up close as well as two weird looking Humvee type jeeps. They had large machine guns mounted on top and were more rounded than a hummer. Similar to the picture of the 4 wheeler that's been circulating around. These weren't potential Transformers because we all asked if we could see some of them, and they laughed and said no and that they were already in one of the other buildings under tarps. Once we got to where the AD was taking us, Micheal Bay came over and said hi to all of us and explained what he was doing in this shot. He explained that some bombs were going to go off as this group of soldiers (about 15) were going to be blown back by it. They had a ratchet system set up (the cables attached to the stuntmen that yanks them back for effect.) The shot was of the soldiers walking up towards a pile of cement tubes (like for tunnels) and then it blew up and they all were thrown back and started opening fire in the direction of the explosion. I can only hope that somewhere in that pile there will be a Transformer later haha. The photographer was out taking pictures for the setup and of us and said that it would be online at some point. After the explosion they let us hang out for a few minutes and watch them break down some stuff. What was cool is that we kept hearing revving and a muscle car taking off down a road several times. Eventually we were able to notice a camera jib SUV driving with a car chasing it and while it was dark and far away, the taillights of the speeding car looked like a Camaro. If i had to guess I'd say the second unit was getting shots of Bumblebee coming out of one of the buildings. So that was pretty cool. The only trinkets we got to remember (aside from that picture hopefully) were handfuls of spent blanks haha. There were bullet casings all over the place. Rest assured this scene (rumored to be the opening scene according to the local newspaper) is going to be HUGE.

They're apparently moving to Washington D.C. today I don't know specifically when they starting filming there. Can't promise I can get there. But then they shoot in Philly and Princeton, maybe I can do those.

Transformers 2’ Will Not Just Set Up Third Film, Promises Michael Bay
-Published by Shawn Adler on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 11:50 am.

First there was “Back to the Future,” and then “The Matrix,” and then, more recently, “Pirates of the Caribbean,” where literally the last thing said on screen during the second film was a cliffhanging new plot point. If you’ve got a successful franchise, why not link the second and third movies, forcing audiences to wait upwards of a year for resolution?

Because it’s friggin “lame,” “Transformers” director Michael Bay insisted to us at the MTV Movie Awards, telling MTV News that the second go-round with Optimus Prime would be entirely self-contained.

“You know how those sequels they do the second one so you go see the third one? ["Transformers 2”] is it,” he said, indicating that “2” would be its own story free from the duel shackles of set-up or resolution. “First one was just introducing, setting up stuff, so we can go a lot farther. Let’s just say [this] is not a lame sequel.”

If “Transformers” was all about introduction, then “Transformers 2” will be all about escalation, with reports that upwards of 20 robots will do battle in the blockbuster sequel. But for Bay, it’s not the number of robots present, but how they’ll be more fully and individually realized that has him excited, he said.

“The robots are going to surprise a lot of people because we go with a lot of different levels,” he teased.

Of course, that also applies to returning cast members, as well, who will now get a chance to go further with their characters than they did in the original. Shia LaBeouf will be in college (and taught by Rainn Wilson). But forget transforming robots or finals angst, Megan Fox smiled, the real transformation is yet to come.

“In this one I transform from a girl into a woman,” she laughed.

ahh such a lame title do i detect a Galvatron in this? GOD I HOPE NOT! any who i got a feeling this will be the worst in the series. sorta like Pirates 2 and Matrix 2. TF1 was good in sense that it set up and introduced everyone. now TF 2 needs to be about TRANSFORMERS i don't wana see Meg Fox kissing on top of card and waving around her bra. i wana see some Decepticon interaction plotting and such same with the Autobots they had 1 clip like that in TF 1 right b4 they go to the dam. but we know we wont get that.

hope there's more robots peeing on people, fat guys eating lots of donuts, and Ebay jokes. that was stellar film making. what a wasted budget.

BEAST WARS MOVIE!

Posted by: Samson on June 5, 2008 at 18:26:13

t snarf and all other haters can choke on a cock. undeniably and unbelievably the first Transformers movie was superb aside from some weak subplots, bay actually did justice for the Transformers mythos. it was visually and wholeheartedly an amazing cinematic experience. from all the recent news about part 2, it sounds like bay is gong to make it even better. more robots with individuality be explored, more conflict between them, less fill in material, and most of the likable cast is returning. everyone should be hyped for Transformers 2.

Autobots assemble.

Does anyone know if Spielberg is still Executive Producer for TF2?!?

Posted by: daniel clavette on June 5, 2008 at 20:13:44

Wow that is truly cool and i hope to see the movies.

This report seems like a fake to me. But thats just my opinion. Can't wait for Transformes 2 though.

Posted by: Teeth on June 5, 2008 at 21:33:09

Directed at stoneman:

This report isn't fake. Filming was taking place in Bethlehem. I was with "Brian D." the first night of shooting, lending him a 135mm to take some of those shots. In fact, I think one or two of those pictures are mine.

Regardless, its been in local news that Bay has had some onlookers come onto set and witness pyro close up and personal. There's nothing outrageous or "too good to be true" about his report.

I heard that Shia and Bumblbee filmed a make-out scene during the late hours of Monday's shoot. Totally new direction for the film.

It was as real as it gets, I **** you not. The production photographer was snapping pictures of us. He said they will be up on the internet soon, probably Bays website. So that can be your proof.

Posted by: DarkKnightFan on June 5, 2008 at 22:20:22

Hoyt,Steven spielberg will be returning as executive producer. lets just hope he returns for the third one!

Posted by: DarkKnightFan on June 5, 2008 at 22:21:31

wait...mybad, i think steven spielberg said he will return for the third one too.

Posted by: stoneman on June 5, 2008 at 23:06:10

To you two idiots I don't doubt they are filming in PA. The thing I don't believe is why someone would be outside of a movie set at 4 AM (kinda pathetic, and for someone to invite you on set. Oh yeah I believe that. Your pics might be real who really knows thi is the internet.
