Transformers 2 Set Report and Video
Source:JfHideout
June 3, 2008

Scooper 'JfHideout' got close to the filming for Michael Bay's Transformers 2 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and sent us this report along with a video of the filming which also includes stills towards the end:

Hey guys -- just got back from the Transformers 2 filming in Bethlehem (where I also reside). Not too much was able to be seen up close, but they dressed up the old Bethlehem Steel to have some neon Chinese signs (got a couple pics of those) and we saw two Blackhawk helicopters, an Apache, and 2 other smaller copters that said "Police" across the side of them flying around. We got as close as we could at one point and we could see the extras running around in the distance while they did take after take of the copters flying overhead of the Bethlehem Steel plant. Also, we got wind that they brought Ironhide in at some point tonight, but we didn't see him. And we also heard that at least Tyrese Gibson was on the set for the day (and we heard a rumor that Josh Duhamel was on the set with Tyrese too -- which makes sense I suppose). Anyway, word is the big explosions and pyro will happen tonight so we hope to see that. I got some video clips of the copters flying in and landing that came out pretty good. Would be happy to share those if you'd like. I'll try to report in tonight too if I make it back there.

Cool. Can't wait.

The music made the video look very cool. I wasn't crazy about the 1st Transformers (the action scenes were nice but the characters were very bland). I hope this one ends up being a better movie all around, with big action scenes and characters we care about.

I liked the first one. But I sure do hope there's less military/humans vs. robots and more robots vs. robots this time.

I went there yesterday and saw Michael Bay. He was there with his crew driving around the set in a golf cart. lol

Hey guys, I shot a **** load of stills last night with a fast 135mm lens. Great shots of the helos and blast furnaces/chinese signs. One of them has Bay in it, though you have to zoom in quite a bit, but you can tell its him talking with the pilots. My buddy shot some video too, when we get the chance after work we want to get it together and send it your way, who do I need to talk to?

As far as the second movie is concerned, I would love to be able to actually SEE what is happening in the action scenes rather than have the camera wobbling about like some hyperactive weeble. Do people remember weebles?

JfHideout is right on the money. I have a friend in the area reporting in to me and he confirmed the helicoptrs and neon. Living in SE PA is very exciting right now. After this week, it sounds like filming is going to be moving to center city Philly.

Give me Soundwave or give me death!!!!!!

It really sucks that Turturro is back in this. His character was a complete buffoon in the last one. I'd like less comedy and more of a darker, edgier tone but let's face it the movie is to sell toys.

this movie is gonna be the best summer movie of 2009 just like the first one was the best summer movie of 2007

What I'd like to see introduced into the plot is how Starscream betrayed Megatron in the past somehow, that's why Megatron ended up being frozen for as long as he did. In the time between the betrayal/freezing Starscream has tried to take over leadership of the Decepticons. But many of them are still loyal to Megatron due to the hope that Megatron could still come back.

Then in T1 Megatron DOES come back. As a result, Starscream and his cronies are worried that Megatron would find out about what's been going on in his absence. But then Megatron seems to die, which simplifies things for Starscream immensely. With Megatron apparently out of the picture now, Starscream will put into effect a plan to FULLY take over control of the Decepticons, spreading word of Megatrons death to all who would listen. We saw Starscream flying off after the credits and perhaps this is why. But this arrogance will cause him to let his guard down.

Meanwhile, for Transformers 2, Soundwave, who is loyal to Megatron, has come to Earth to investigate and then ressurrect Megatron. Megatron will find out about Starscream's betrayal and put him back under his heel, like the leader of a street gang would do to an insubordinate that tried to take control. This relationship of dependence and complete lack of trust is what utterly defines Megatron and Starscream, leading to their lack of success time and time again. A group of Decepticons divided cannot win, even though they have superior firepower and numbers. The teamwork and camaraderie of the Autobots is their strength and allows them to survive against the odds.

And that is how you inject emotional gravitas and a plot to a movie about robot toys. It also contains several important life lessons. AND leaves plenty of room to blow stuff up.

Pretty simple, actually.

I know why they didn't see Ironhide-because he is a robot in disguise!!

Mighty fine meeting you here RJ.

I've seen a lot of pics of the Steel Mill but not much is given away. In the video, those people standing around how close are they to the set? Are there any security people around where you guys are?

Don't care about Gibson or Duhamel, should have left them out and put their salaries towards the C.G.I. budget!

Well I have to tip my hat to 'JfHideout' for the awesome footage! I'm not sure if he added the score, but I think Bay might want to hire him. I can't wait for the next one, and I look forward to more footage from 'JfHideout'.

Just different memory sizes in regards to the 360. I have gotten the red ring twice already and you take the memory drive off and send the system in (first time took almost 5 weeks to get back, second time a 10 day turnaround). Don't register the serial number until this happens because if it is over a year Microsoft won't cover the repair costs for the hard drive.

Love that footage
