Dolph Lundgren to Have a Role in Conan?
November 9, 2009
Dolph Lundgren told MTV that he is talking to producers of the new Conan movie about maybe playing a role in the film.
"I've talked to the producers about doing something for 'Conan,'" he said. He added that "it's too early" when asked what type of role he's looking for and he said he didn't expect to know more until "probably next year."
Marcus Nispel will direct the Lionsgate release, which is based on Robert E. Howard's mythical conqueror Conan the Barbarian. The new version is expected to be more faithful to Howard's original creation than were the Arnold Schwarzenegger films.

Man! 20 years ago he could have BEEN Conan! Maybe he plays his father or future self or something. Anyways, Dolph rocks. Good luck!

Hmmm. I really hope they do this right.

What did yall think of Nispel's Pathfinder? I thought it had a good look that would work well for Conan, but it had a pretty weak script by B action flick standards.

I agree with you @comichero

I doubt Dolph will be Conan but I could see him playing someone else in it, 20 years ago he could of being Conan but not now. I just hope this turns out good I wasn't very impressed with Nispel's Friday the 13th remake and I haven't seen Pathfinder so I'm uncertain whether he is the right guy to direct this but I'm glad Brett Ratner is no longer involved.

A new conan movie, on a scale of 1 to 10 we need this movie probably about a 4, bleah. But Dolph is pretty cool so who knows. I think he's in the expendables next year.

I agree on Pathfinder. The script sucked, it had bad acting, but the vikings looked cool. Much like The 13th Warrior, it should've been awesome but it sucked.

dolph lundgren should be the punisher again. in fact, dolph lundgren should be in most super hero movies in some way. kraven in spider-man, colossus in x-men, etc. weird, but even though that first punisher movie was the worst out of all of them, he was the best punisher.

Dolph Lundgren COOL! I can't wait to see this when it goes straight to DVD. I've lost almost all interest now.

Who is Bridgette Nielsen going to be?

As long as they don't try to somehow shoehorn Ahh-nold into the role, I think this could work. I've been into the books since they were re-issued in 1968 (with Frazetta covers that were the only thing that drew readers to them) The movies were ABOMINABLE! One of the early examples of the lack of respect given to "fantasy" films over the years, they were done as nothing more than a cheap way to cash in on the growing cult of rabid readers, drawn to Barry Smith's crude, but effective Marvel version.
Just one example of just how bad the first film was, is that when I saw it in a theatre, full of hope that it would be done right, there was a moment that will stay with me. When Conan is hiding behind a rock, awaiting the attack of far greater forces, he says...
"Crom! I have never prayed to you before...I haven't the tongue for it" The entire theatre burst out laughing!
So let's do this one right, huh guys? No bad actors, no cameos from Stan Lee, no use of inappropriate people whose star power just happens to be on the rise. GIVE US CONAN!

He-Man vs Conan interesting...

Dolph would have made a great Thor.
I really hope he starts getting alot more roles.

I personally liked the first movie, its not "Hoyle" Conan but it was enjoyable, Destroyer was just plain God-awful. I could see Dolph as a villain but not Conan, he could possibly play his father, that would be pretty sweet. Pathfinder had a great look but the script was boring, the Conan movie has to look like a living Frazetta painting. By the way, how did the 13th Warrior suck as a movie?

@ Jon
You have got to be joking!! I can see that this Conan film will be considered a B movie at best, but Mr. Lungren is a D actor (and that's being nice). But for him as Thor...it'll be like the Thor in the Incredible Hulk TV movie...absoulutely horrendous!

I forgot Thor was so deep...

All this talk about Dolph playing this hero and that hero...has anyone thought about the fact that he's a lousy actor? Don't you people want Superhero films to continue to flourish?
Posted by: DCas on November 10, 2009 at 10:47:38
Nope, most people aren't seeing how bad an actor he is. I find it funny that he has so many fans (at least 5 here).
From some of what I've read the movie is going to be based more of the Arnold movies than the books. Then I turn around and see this where they say they are going to stay faithful to the books. I'll have to wait and see.
Go with unknown faces, I say. As long as the script is good and they can act that's all you need. And PLEASE don't pretty it up!

Thank you Dcas! This should be as down and dirty as it can get! These characters are suposed to be from a world that is one step away from the Stone Age and, if they stray from that, this movie is D-O-O-M-E-D!!!
Posted by: Cev on November 10, 2009 at 10:58:52
Well i dont know about doomed, the only thing alot of people know of Conan is what was portrayed on screen with Arnold, and many, many seemed to like it.
Guess we'll see.

First Conan movie did not suck. It was excellent. It was the most faithful interpretation you're going to get. Hollywood can't pull another Conan movie off. Too interested in making it PG13 so the kiddies can see it and buy Conan lunch boxes. Its about money, not the material. Look at Transformers.
