The Trailer for Lucky Luke!
October 21, 2009
We haven't heard too much about the Lucky Luke movie here in North America, but it opened in Belgium and France today (Wednesday) and the official website has the trailer which you can watch using the player below! Based on the comics created by Belgian cartoonist Morris (AKA Maurice De Bevere), the film stars Jean Dujardin as the titular character. From what we're seeing in the trailer, it looks like an accurate adaptation of the comic. Unfortunately, there's no word if we'll ever see it hitting theaters here.

A bit late, that trailer has been out for weeks now.
Better late than never. The reviews aren't great, certainly better than the ones for "The Daltons", the live action Lucky Luke movie of a couple of years back.

Haha, that looked freaking awsome :D

Wasn't exactly demanding a Luckky Luke movie, and this one looks ridiculous yet fun. Is it getting a states-wide release or dirct to DVD?

My dear senorashish, The US is not the only place in the world that makes great comics, I have the luxury of having a bookstore in Montreal (Canada) where we sell comics from all over the world, either in french or english; I do prefer american comics, but the French did create great characters, you'd be suprise;
on the same note and about comics being unknown, be assured that comics Like Asterix or Lucky Luke are sold at more copies than most american comics, Tintin sold over 200,000,000 copies worldwide of its titles.
But I'll give you that, americans and europeens have a thing in common, they tend to trash the essence of these characters when they put them on the big screen.

Let me tell you guys that I sincerely hope this movie will never, ever hit theaters in the US.

@ Rico
I know the U.S. is not the only place in the world that makes great comics. And I know that European comics are just as great.
But like you said the essence of the comics gets lost on screen. That is what I was getting at. I mean, have you seen the "Blueberry" movie staring Vincent Cassal and Michael Madsen? Ugh.

BTW Rico, you're required by law to have your post written in French as well as English.
And for the record, it looked freakin' sweet... hahah Bang Bang Luuuucky Luke.

Wow Big Pine, i read, reread and then read your post again. And everytime you seem like more of an expletive. I mean Dollar for the Dead and the two after that were spaghetti westerns and weren't made in the US but in Spain. If you read Lucky Luke you'd know that it's not supposed to be historicly correct. So no i won't give you a break. This mmovie looks like pure popcorn fun. Better than half the blockbusters in 2009. *cough* transformers, HP, GI Joe etc etc.

No offense to the "Lucky Luke" fans but this trailer looks dumb; then again, I am not a big fan of Western.

@Jerry
I'll to fill you in to the best of my abilities.
Lucky Luke is a cowboy who is apparently faster than his own shadow in a draw and he ocassionally hops from town to town solving all sorts of issues.
Each story normally ends with him setting off into the sunset.
What I don't see in the trailer are the Dalton Brothers, a group of 5 recurring villains which clash frequently with Lucky Luke. They alwasy want to get even with Luke but it always backfires.
Though they did get the talking horse right.
But the dog that follows him is missing.
The rest I honestly don't remember much. My dad has tons of paperbacks of this character, but I haven't read those in a while.

To Jerry:
Just like I as a European never heard of Wild Wild West before the Will Smith movie came out, it's only natural that Lucky Luke as a comic book might be unknown to people outside of Europe. Well, just like Tintin or Asterix, Lucky Luke too is very popular European or, to be more precise, Belgian comic book. Drawn by its creator Morris (I think he's real first name was Maurice) 'till his death, and written by the legendary Rene Coscinny, who also wrote Asterix and several other Belgian comic books. However, Coscinny died at end of the 1970s (as far as I recall, correct me if I'm wrong) and left many comic book artists on their own as war as plots are concerned. And far as I know, Lucky Luke as a comic book still continues after Morris's death, as Morris did not forbid it from continuing as did Herge, the creator of Tintin. And again, afaik, there's been several cartoons, one live action tv series (in which Lucky Luke looks nothing like Lucky Luke) and one live action movie, the forementioned The Daltons before this. And I can say this looks, in a good way, less cartoony than The Daltons movie. Oh, and did you see the shot where he shoots faster than his own shadow? Well, that used to be the back cover of every single Lucky Luke comic book album. In that aspect, they changed one thing: originally, when he shoots he's own shadow, he has a cigarette in his mouth but in later albums and reprint it's a hay instead of a cigarette. Ironically, there's more smoke coming from the gun in the hay version than in the original one.
And you should check wikipedia too, there's probably more and better info, but I hope this was helpfull too :)

I am glad that is is being made. Its awesome to see the shadow shooting scene in the trailer. I loved reading this growing up along with Asterix,and Tintin. Too bad my knowledge of french is not what it was.

This movie was a real fun, not to take seriously guys, plus, jean dujardin is a pretty good comedy actor : Brice De nice, Oss 117 and 99 franc was good.
And
Proud to see that there's other montrealers on this site ... I felt so alone.

Thanks, Spike :)
I have to disagree with you on the first Asterix live action movie, though. I think the first one was pretty good, lots of great actors and a very nice theme music. And they didn't have that much money to use, only 90 million francs (probably $20M at the time) which by U.S. standards isn't too much for an effects filled fantasy movie. The sequels on the other hand seemed to have had quite a bit more cash behind them but this time the movie makers probably didn't know where to put it. Well, the money DOES show in both of sequels but they're just so god-afwul when compared to the first one.
Oops..this got out of my hand, sorry.
