Kurtzman and Orci on Cowboys & Aliens
Source:ComingSoon.net
October 9, 2009

Star Trek and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci talked briefly to ComingSoon.net about adapting the graphic novel Cowboys & Aliens with director Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. in the lead:

On collaborating on their next film, "Cowboys & Aliens," with director Jon Favreau:
Kurtzman: It's the greatest.
Orci: We just started and we're getting along really well. We actually sent ourselves back to school and we're watching Westerns together, analyzing them, and just kind of getting into it.
Kurtzman: Yeah, we had a lot of these Westerns in our heads but Jon is an incredible fountain of Western knowledge.
Orci: "Star Trek" was pitched originally as a space Western anyway. So "Star Trek" was a nice lead up to this project.
Kurtzman: I think also that Jon comes from a very similar emotional place. Because he's an actor and he knows what plays and what doesn't play very quickly. We're having an unbelievably good time working with him on that.

This is really shaping up to be an amazing project, but I want to see a release date and a supporting cast

Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. = Marvel's Golden Duo

Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale = DC's Golden Duo

good teams

Well i like RDJ and Jon but what's cowboys and aliens?

Posted by: Fletch on October 9, 2009 at 23:37:38

Good ol wiki, aliens land in the 1800's and plan to enslave humanity but cowboys and indians team up to prevent it. Um ok......seems more will smith then downey Jr. but who knows.

See you, space cowboy!

Favreau DOES know there are other actors other than his meal ticket Downey, right? As much as I love them both and know they have a good thing going ... spread that magic around and see what happens.

Posted by: mojojackson on October 10, 2009 at 00:25:49

I hope this doesn't prevent Favreau from directing Avengers, schedule-wise.

I'm okay with Favreau and Downey!

It's the Kurtzman and Orci that bothers me!

Kurtzman and Orci were two of the guys responsible for EFFING up "Star Trek!"

Posted by: Shi Don Yu on October 10, 2009 at 00:55:47

Favreau and Doney should "run as fast as they can" away from Kurtzman an Orci!
They might find themselves in some "stupid alternate universe" if they don't!

Posted by: Justin on October 10, 2009 at 02:57:36

How did these two writers all of a sudden get popular? they suck at writing that simple.

Posted by: TheTOBster21 on October 10, 2009 at 04:00:53

so that's why they have a job writing instead of you right justin? star trek was a great movie. it was fun, story was great, and what's wrong with alternate realities? if anything throwing in an alternate reality in a movie is awesome. you could explore endless story possibilities for sequels.

I think they're pretty good writers, they wrote pirates of the caribbean, star trek and transformers. They might not all be perfect movies but I think that's a pretty good resume

I a very excited about this. I think Jon Faverau and Robert Downey Jr. do wonderful work together. Robert works fantastic with other directors and producers also. Jon is so lucky to have Robert. Robert's just a damn fantastic actor period! Jon, really isn't. His last few acting jobs have been really terrible. Saw Couples' Retreat last night - terrible movie. Jon wrote it. Jon needs to stick with directing. I think Jon needs Robert more than Robert needs him. Besides they haven't done that much together. Only 2 movies so far. God- look at Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, DeCaprio and Scorcese etc. I really don't think doing a few more together as long as they are fantastic to watch is a bad thing. Hasn't hurt the other teams so far. I always look forward to all of Roberts' movies. He changes it up so much, that he is such a thrill to watch in action, adventure, drama, mystery, or comedy roles. I have always enjoyed all of Roberts' performances. So, I think this movie will be fantastic. I can't wait to see it!

Can't Fav get another actor to be his muse?
You people like the same s**t fed to you over and over again.

Oh and Bale is pathetic as Batman.......
Worst.Batman.Ever.
Nolan and Heath were DCs "golden duo" fanboii.

Sounds sweet, can't wait to see it.

Mr. Favreau! SyFy Channel's DONE "cowboys and aliens" already! AND there's an outdoor art museum in NC that has life-size Civil War soldiers battling dinosaurs.

THINK before you SINK! (but not by me, cuz I budget my movie tix, regardless) Good luck, gentlemen.

Posted by: Justin on October 10, 2009 at 15:15:00

TOBster21

Errmm excuse me buddy... But just because they're in the game doesn't mean they deserve to be there. Did you know there are quality actors and actresses out there that cant even sniff a commercial? Yet actresses like Megan Fox and Malin ackerman who have NO Talent are getting all the big roles... Why? Because you can control people who don't have talent that simple. Orci Kurtzman are Bad writers FACT!

Posted by: TheTOBster21 on October 10, 2009 at 18:50:21

Errmm excuse me justin and shi. Quit pretending like you know what you're talking about. You're not a talent scout and you have no kind of career in movies nor will you. These writers have careers in movies because they're good at it. that's what separates them from us. you keep stating that your OPINIONS are facts. that's child sh** dude. you're a spectator and nothing more.

I'm sorry to say, but Orci and Kurtzman suck at writing. The only good film they've done is the recent "Star Trek." And that film had massive plot holes that were so gaping, that if truly scrutinized, it would jeopardize the "coolness" factor of this recent film.

For example: Say Old Spock made it in time to make a black hole so that the impact of the supernova of Romulus' sun would not reach Romulus, you would still be left with a massive black hole. And this black hole would have no doubt sucked Romulus into it.

Also, the biggest plot hole would involve Nero not venturing to Romulus to evacuate the planet considering that he traveled back in time 25 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And let's not forget to mention Orci and Kurtzman's masterpiece "Transformers: Revenge of the Crude and Inane Bathroom Humor."

Posted by: Robbie on October 10, 2009 at 21:32:39

Robert Downey Jr.& Jon Favreau make a fantastic team not only in the creative process but in the marketing..also don't ask Robert who comes first in his life, it's Jon; if it wasn't for him Robert wouldn't be Iron Man which he had to screen test for with Jon.
