Dawson is Miller's Favorite for Martha Washington
July 29, 2009
Digital Spy spoke to Dave Gibbons today and he revealed that Frank Miller told him that Rosario Dawson (who starred in Miller's Sin City) would be ideal for the proposed Martha Washington movie. The character, created by Miller, first appeared in the four-issue comic book "Give Me Liberty," published in 1990 by Dark Horse Comics.

with her as a high school student, maybe they should use Keke Palmer (who's 16) instead of the 30+ year old Rosario Dawson.

I definitely agree with Keke Palmer...Dawson is older maybe for the third installemnt if the chracter even reaches a one picture or two picture deal. I might even go with Kyeshia Cole

I've heard only fantastic things about Martha Washington. It is a true classic that deserves a good film.

This would make a far better tv series than feature film.

Why is Miller wasting his time with this garbage?
Was anybody clamoring for this movie?
Gimme a break.

I really wish Frank would direct the new Robocop. But Martha Washington would be awesome

this sounds like another spirit"esque" bs fiasco waiting to happen. although i know nothing about this character, aside from a few pictures in wizard and other mags. i think part of the charm of these smaller comic titles is that theyer....well "SMALL". spinning them throught the hollywood hype machine only irritates fans and secures the public perception that indy books are crap.
from what im seeing about this character im thinking it'd be better suited for an HBO series.....feel free to correct me if im wrong.

cuz nobody knows how to make a great movie like frank miller (the spirit)

I'd rather see Taraji Henson in this. Nothing against Rosario but she's not who I envision when I think of Martha Washington.

Come to think of it, Rutina Wesley (Tara on True Blood) would also make an excellent Martha Washington.

this was a great graphic novel, one of my fav's for life , but please dont put this on the screen just "cuz" you can frank , ya know why ? you did'nt create him but the spirit sucked on film and wasting our time and hard earned money aint gonna fly no more.

Grayskull,
I think Rosario would be perfect for Catwoman but I don't think Warner Bros will revisit that franchise for awhile considering how they butchered it. Wasn't Halle's fault, though.
Rosario is pretty down to earth. Well at least what I've seen of her. And at Comic-Con 2007 she was so cool to her fans. But who knows. Actors are good at.. acting.
I do worry that Miller would butcher this. The comics were so involved and serious. I think he'd make it too campy.

Dawson is hot but a bit too old for the character from the mini series. Also, I wouldn't let Frank Miller near a directors chair for awhile. Anyone watch the Spirit?? Blecch!! BTW Mr. Miller I believe that movie contained a line from Sam Jackson about the Spirit ending up "..as dead as Star Trek"! It was meant to be a slam against Trek. Hey Frank you looked real good with that one too didn't you?? Bwaa Haa Haa Haaaaaa!!!

Taraji P. Henson is Martha Washington. Anyone doubt, watch Smokin' Aces and you will see Martha Washington come to life.
Posted by: mojojackson on July 31, 2009 at 14:05:29
I agree that the beautiful Taraji P. Henson would make a great Martha Washington, but I'd still go with Dawson first.
As far as who should direct, I'd say let Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller co-direct, as they did in Sin City, then let Miller take over for the sequels. Judging by he look of The Spirit, Miller appeared to learn about directing a film with only that one, specific, black-and-white on green screen look. Maybe with the first Martha film Rodriguez could give Miller pointers on how to direct a film with a less noir, more visceral look. At least we wouldn't have to worry about Miller butchering the story, since it's his own work.
