SDCC: The Sherlock Holmes Panel!

Robert Downey Jr. took the mic with rounds and rounds of standing applause moments ago in SDCC's Hall H.
Though a lot of the footage was already shown in the trailer, quite a few moments were expanded upon; We're treated to the basic mystery. A noble, Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong) has been executed and allegedly returned from the dead. Holmes and Watson -- who seem rather down on their luck at 221 Baker Street -- reopen the case to find out what really happened.
One of the all-new moments has Holmes fighting a large man in a boxing ring (glimpsed at briefly, in the trailer). We hear Holmel's voice as the scene moves in slow motion. He methodically tells himself what he has to do, move by move, to bring the man down, including facts about how long physical and mental recovery will take. When it ends, the scene jumps back and then plays out the same way in real-time, with super-fast fighting moves.
We see a bit more with Holmes and Rachel McAdams' character, Irene Adler. They've obviously known each other for a quite a while. She asks him why he doesn't trust her and he asks her if he should respond chronologically or alphabetically. She's the one who steals his clothes (as seen in the trailer) and leaves him locked to a hotel bed, leaving wearing his outfit.
There were also quite a few shots in and around a British shipping yard, including a chase along an unfinished/decayed bridge.
Sherlock Holmes hits theaters on Christmas Day.

I'm torn. I like RDJr but I don't know if I want this franchise to take off. We don't need him filming Sherlock Holmes sequels, we need him filming Avengers. I haven't decided if I'm going to pay to see this movie.
"Hmmmmm"

RDJ will be able to be in Avengers and the Sherlock Holmes sequels. Actors only spend about three months shooting films, if they are the lead role, unless they are doing wire work or things like that. RDJ will be fine.

@Bobert: I'm with ya, man. RDJ is an incredible actor, but from the footage, it's like the movie reverses the personalities of Watson and Holmes. Both men in the books were already manly violent men of action when it was called for.
I hope the movie delivers. I'm torn.

I'll say it again, I hear Sir Arthur Conan Doyle rolling over in his grave due to this movie.

I suppose this could be a good movie. It doesn't appear to be much like the books i've read since childhood of Holmes mysteries. I'm very scared about guy ritchie directing this, at least it doesn't have madonna in it. I will give this movie the benefit of the doubt since it does have downey Jr. in it, he showed so much charisma in iron man that maybe he can make holmes come alive.

@ Purewitz
At least Watson isn't a bumbling fat idiot. Besides which I think Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is too glad to be rid of the character to do much but rest in piece.

Oops. Peace. That sounded wrong...

mmm after reading this I am starting to feel more eased about the direction this film is taking. with holmes's talking to himself to methodically bring down his oponent, THAT IS WHAT SH could be mmm though I just expect a holme's slow-motion-off-voice from the hammer scene (that was honestly ridiculous).

I agree that the slow motion scene may be slightly ridiculous however RD Jr is a great actor. I would go into this movie not expecting to much. I think the film will probably be just ok

The best Sherlock Holmes was already done by Jeremy Brett,Edward Hardwicke, and David Burke. There is NO need to make this film. Downey is woefully miscast as Holmes. Purewitz is right when he said Arthur Conan Doyle will be spinning in his grave. This movie and it's entire concept is a disgrace to the Canon of Holmes. What Guy Ritchie knows about Sherlock Holmes you can fit on the head of a pin and still have room.
