SDCC: The Jonah Hex Panel!

The world's first look at Jonah Hex just screened in SDCC's Hall H. Though it had the look and feel of a trailer, director Jimmy Hayward seemed to say that it was a special SDCC-only presentation. He also made the note that, while the film has some supernatural stylings, there's no Voodoo king or army of the dead.

We're told about Jonah Hex as we see him and someone asks how he got his scar. He says that he's never told anyone the story, though we see a flash of him being branded. A voice tells us that, since then, he's walked with one foot in life and one foot in death.

There's a magical/vooddoo quality to some of the shots, including a live crow crawling out of Hex's mouth.

Hex is approached by a government official who tells him that, because of his expertise at killing, the US has need of his services.

There's a fantastic shot of Michael Fassbender sitting on a train track with a dynamite plunger in a long, quiet scene where he whistles, waiting for the train. (Fassbender explained in the panel that his character came a lot from Alex in "A Clockwork Orange" and it's very easy to see on-screen).

There's a lot of Megan Fox. One guy grabs her and says, "I own you." She knocks him down and says, "Never was much for being owned." We see her doing a lot of fighting and there's a shot of her from behind, nude with Hex in bed.

There's a bunch of explosions, including the train and Hex riding in on a horse with machine guns mounted on the side.

There's a bunch of Hex scar comments, including one guy asking how he got it and Hex responding, "I'll show you."

The title comes up with just the letters "JH," which turns into the full logo.

Post-title, there's a scene of another guy asking what happened to his face. Hex says, "I cut myself shaving," shoves an axe in his head and says, "What happened to yours?"

The film definitely has a big, big look to it, despite a relatively small budget. Production value is surprisingly good.

Jonah Hex opens June 18, 2010.

No news of Josh Brolin appearing nude in bed? Don't know, not sold yet...

It really is a pity that there really hasn't been much of a change in Hollywood since its inception. Megan Fox claims that she has only shown everyone 12% of her acting abilities in Transformers, yet she takes these roles where the only reason for her presence is to show off her bod.

There is should be no defense made for her, as she will not make the effort to break out of her sex symbol status and be more than just a pair of legs. The sad thing is that she has so much potential that likely will never be tapped.

But this isn't about Megan Fox. Josh Brolin is as he's been in the recent years, one of the greatest actors his age has to offer. I'm only looking forward to seeing what he has to offer here in the genre he seems to be built for.

I was quite excited about this film. Jonah Hex is cool. Josh Brolin is a good actor. Michael Fassbender was great in Hunger and The Devil's Whore. Then they cast Megan Fox and I stopped caring. She's just not interesting enough as an actress. As soon as I hear she's getting a lot of screen time in any film, I lose interest. She bores the crap out of me and were she a jot less attractive (although I think she looks trashy) noone would care. I haven't seen any evidence that she's an actress. To me she's just a celebrity, and worse, one that deliberately presents herself in public as an object of desire physically and saying provocative things in interviews rather than trying to display genuine depth or talent.

They should add something to the headline about Megan Fox's naked butt. That would get this more comments.

I didn't know there were machine guns in the years after the Civil War.
Either way I'll be seeing this movie!

Jonah Hex? Awesome.

Josh Brolin? Great acting chops.

Megan Fox? Waste of film. When oh when will the prepubescent boys and dirty old men move on to their next talentless bimbo?

Posted by: ArchStanton on July 24, 2009 at 23:36:46

Megan Fox has more plastic and silicone than the robots in Transformers. Every part of her is fake or ridiculously tatooed. No talent as an actress - just bland and vapid. Why couldn't they have cast someone with an ounce of talent or charisma for this? I had high hopes for this as a JH fan for so many years. I still like Brolin for Jonah, but...ugh.

Josh is a excellent actor good choice for Jonah Hex. Megan Fox easy on the eyes, great combination.

I just read on Yahoo news that there was apparently a rumor that Fox turned down a role for the next Bond film. She said the rumor was false, that she was never offered a role, but would jump at the opportunity. But she's living in a dream world if she thinks a vaccous bimbo like her would have a prayer of being in the new Bond franchise. Maybe back when Brosnan was Bond (Denise Richards was one of his Bond girls, after all), but Campbell and Craig classed up the franchise.

Stick to playing whores and sluts, Fox, and leave the acting to the big girls.

I have to say to the guys that always bashing Megan Fox calling her a slut and whore, I think you have women issues, you guys need to get a therapy. I might be wrong for saying this but guys relax it's only a movie.

Hex Fan:

Not to embarrass you, but you may wanna read my post again more carefully, since you didn't read it carefully before responding. I didn't call Fox a slut or a whore. Go ahead. Read it again.

Can't wait for this...!!!

Posted by: Hex Fan on July 26, 2009 at 03:54:26

My comments were a general statement not directed at anyone so I'm not embarrassed. Like I said earlier relax it's only a movie. I cannot wait to see Jonah Hex, I'm a hugh fan.

Ugh no more Megan Fox please.

Don't get me wrong, she's a stunner and definitely somebody to just ogle at, but she's reached the point of oversaturating the market this year alone.

It seems like she's everywhere now, and the saddest thing is that the geeks give so much adulation to her when in reality she wouldn't spent one minute talking with any of us. She does these movies to remain relevant, but there's no ounce of honest geekness or admiration of the sci-fi world in her. She's the very girl that prefers jocks and bad boys but falsely sides with the geeks because we're the only ones who keep her paychecks coming. Ugh.

I'm still worried we'll get some awful Bloody Bill type stuff.
