Cam Gigandet on the Priest Adaptation
June 12, 2009
On Monday, it was announced that Twilight star Cam Gigandet was joining Paul Bettany in comic book adaptation Priest, to be directed by Scott Stewart at Screen Gems.
The horror Western is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Gigandet plays a young wasteland sheriff who is part vampire.
ShockTillYouDrop.com got a chance to talk to Gigandet about his role when visiting The Roommate set. You can read what he had to say here.

A live action Gargoyles movie will suffice.

How about a re-make of Howard The Duck? Or lets go grab some other, no well known - who - cares character and run with it.
This sounds interesting, but give us the stuff we really want to see. Get to work on the Justice League Characters to bring that movie to life. GL is in the works, how about a Wonder Woman and Flash combo with a special appearance by the Martian Manhunter. Or even a Green Arrow movie.
Come on Hollywood. Stop farting around and bring us the goods.

holy **** making the gargoyles into a live action would be sweet!

Last I heard they were making a Green Arrow movie called "SuperMax". The plot sounded horrible, though. I would love to see a Wonder Woman flick about the flying, almost-Superman-strong Diana. Anyone know how to contact the studios? I've got some ideas.

Supermax was a David Goyer script, not really a project. there was no director (other than maybe himself), actors or even studio backing.
The problem with the DC properties (and, don't get me wrong, I love them) is that they are tied to Warner. They own them all. No other studio will be making any DC movies other than Warners and their subsidiaries. THAT's why it takes too long to make them. The cost to make a decent Flash, GL, or a movie based on any of the big players is too high to stack them back to back to back. Especially when the same studio has other large franchises like Harry Potter it can't compete with. DC's best bet is to license out properties like how Marvel did, but warner won't risk another studio having a hit off of their property.

Agreed, Gargoyles would be worth seeing. This, not so much. I don't know about you, but I'm kinda sick of the whole vampire craze. Underworld, Twilight, Blade, Night/Daywatch, Lost Boys II, True Blood, etc.
We get it. Everyone's supposed to think vampires are supposed to be cool and sexy and dangerous, but alluring, blah blah blah. I'm tired of them. Move on to the next fad.

Priest sounds like it has ripped off from the Vampire Hunter D novel series' fusion of the Western and vampire-horror genres in a post-apocalyptic setting.
I'd rather that Hollywood actually adapt the original to a movie than the copy-cat version.

@ Ramon
That's because it's pretty true to the Japanese style its from. There's a million and a half giant robot cartoons there but somehow all are different and identifiable
Some how though D was always weird cause it was equal bits Horror, Western and science fiction (remember the horses were cybernetic). Priest however is really just a vampire western and isn't in the least bit like D. Having read most of them a damn good one too. As long as they don't slaughter it (which is always a possibility) it could be pretty good to see happen.
You do bring up a good idea though, a live action D movie would be great.

This is so retarded i read Priest and there is no vampires just freaking demons why the hell add vampires in orignal series that didn't have any i swear holly wood just keeps butchering story's over and over.

link,
if you read what cam saids he saids that this movie is not all the way based on the movie and that there are a lot of chance. cam points out that this isn't really like the comic.

Priest idea (the Comic)i mean came from a game that was released back in 1997 called blood the character and the monks where seen in the comic the same as the game. Still the idea of the story is ridicules. Terrible, and the comics aren't even done yet so......
Posted by: jenny on June 15, 2009 at 11:37:45
they changed the idea from the comic for the movie cam has said that himself, it's not based tottally on the comic, that got ideas from the comic and stuff but there are a lot of changes.

the mistake MARVEL did was leasing out their properties to other companies; they are still suffering with the SPIDERMAN series and will be for another 3 movies!
The best marvel movies to date are the ones the MARVEL STUDIOS have done.
I do agree with reason for Warners delay on major DC Films due to their other big player interests.
But when the OWNER is the PRODUCER it's safer bet the film will get the attention it deserves.
