Robert Luketic Taking on Barbarella
Source:Entertainment Weekly
June 2, 2009

Entertainment Weekly reports that director Robert Luketic (Monster-in-Law, Legally Blonde) is working with Dino De Laurentiis' company to develop an update of Barbarella at a new studio. A previous version of the project at Universal had Robert Rodriguez attached to direct, with Rose McGowan starring.

"It will be a big intergalactic adventure with a sexy twist," a source close to the project told the magazine.

"Barbarella" made her debut in 1962 in a French graphic magazine written and illustrated by Jean-Claude Forest, and her adventures have been published around the world. The first film version, starring Jane Fonda produced by De Laurentiis, was released in 1968.

I always thought he'd get attached to some comic/comic like movie. Interested to see what he does with it.

Rodriguez directing McGowan is the perfect way to remake Barbarella! And maybe since she's already been cast, we can be spared the inevitable and inane Megan Fox suggestions.

Say, whatever happened to Rodriguez's and McGowan's Red Sonja remake? I remember seeing a promotional poster for it last year, but haven't heard a thing about it since.

The original Barbarella was the best movie Jane Fonda ever made. Seeing her--most-often nude--can't make me forgive her for costing 35,000 more American lives in Vietnam ... But it does make it the only Jane Fonda movie I'm willing to sit through.

I'm with Pottsy; the level of complacency I have towards this news is staggering.

@ mojojackson... did you even read the article?
Rodriguez and McGowan have been scratched. It's at a new studio with a new director and since the new director isn't sleeping with McGowan she prob won't get the part. Probably will go to Megan Foxxxxxx.

Wow, sounds like it will be horrible and most likely cheesy. Weird camp is one thing, but poorly done cheese is something else entirely.

I love the idea of a movie dealing with the child of GODZILLA and Barbara Striesand.

Kiddnme:

I whole heartedly agree! Paramount allowed JJ Abrams to ****ly rape "Star Trek!"

A "Barbarella" re-make? Keep it the hell away from Dino De Laurentiis!

Couldn't be happier Rose McCowen is no longer involved. I despise her AND Rodriguez for what they did to his family. He is a scum bag on the highest level. She is no where near attractive enough to be Barbarella OR Red Sonja. I hope and pray that Rodriguez eventually dumps her for a younger and hotter actress. Especially since he seems incapable of casting any woman other than who he is sleeping with at the time. BOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only one reason to remake this movie - to re-do the zero g strip scene. And they could do it right by going to Russia (close to Germany) and chartering a parabolic flight. With a $70 million budget, this would be a drop in the bucket. Like the idea of Megan Fox but only if she does nudity.
