Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced their release plans for the long awaited 3-D motion capture feature film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and Kathleen Kennedy. The highly anticipated film will be released by Paramount in the U.S. on December 23, 2011. The film will launch internationally in late October and early November, 2011 with Sony Pictures Releasing International handling Continental Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and India, and Paramount distributing the film in Asia, Australia, UK and all other English speaking territories.
Starring Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot) as Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace) as the nefarious Red Rackham, the international cast also includes Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook.
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is a Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures production from a screenplay by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, and is produced by Spielberg, Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy.
The film, which began production in late January 2009, is the first of a planned series of 3D motion capture films based on the iconic character created by Georges Remi, better known to the world by his pen name "Herge." Executive producers are Nick Rodwell, Stephane Sperry and Ken Kamins.
The second feature in the series is scheduled to be directed by Jackson, with a potential for a third film as well.
Eighty years ago, Herge introduced the world to a unique cast of characters who have been embraced by readers of all ages. "The Adventures of Tintin" - a series of 24 books, the final unfinished adventure was published after Herge's death, became Herge's life's work. The first adventure was published in 1929. Over 200 million copies have been sold worldwide. The popular series has been translated into 70 languages and still attracts thousands of new fans each year.
Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson will bring Herge's stories to life employing state-of-the-art performance capture technology developed by Jackson's Weta Digital.

Great creative team, great cast - sounds good. Will be interested in seeing a trailer when they get around to it.

That's ages away. I love Tintin and the creative team behind this.

This sounds fun... However, shouldn't this be on CRAVEONLINE, and not SUPERHEROhype?
Technically, is Tintin a superhero? For that matter, is Sherlock Holmes, G.I.Joe and many of the other "articles" that are posted on this site? I wonder if this should be COMIChype, FANTASYhype, or GRAPHICNOVELhype... rather than SUPERHEROhype?
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but don't most fans of this site care mostly about Spidey, Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man, Supes, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and all the other host of superheroes that we dream of seeing again and again on the big screen? Why do we keep being inundated with every action movie's updates when we can easily go to other sources for them? Just askin...

Well I find it quite nice to come here to check for the news of ALL kinds of comic related movies.
Not mutch of a surfer.
This is going to be EPIC

This sight used to be called spidermanhype or spideyhype. It has opened up my eyes to alot more than just the status quo. 6 in one, Half in the other. Maybe they'll change the name later on down the road.

Interesting question, Honest Fan. I do find the choice of projects covered here ... interesting. I assumed this site was more of a clearing house for any and all comic book-related movie projects, yet we find Sherlock Holmes, who's only marginally comic book related ... but no Star Trek news, for instance. Trek has a long history of comic book series.
As for Tintin, I think he's a legitimate player here at SHH. My son and I have been reading the Tintin books recently. They're fun, and so beautifully drawn. We're not huge fans of motion capture films, but hopefully, the guys making this movie will do Tintin justice.

I hope Spielberg doesn't wait til after this film's release to begin work on one of his many other projects in development. I'd like to see Lincoln someday you know...

I just hope that the Tin Tin movie can give credit to its greatest stories and that the adaptation to the screen wont't be like the FLOP Dragon Ball. Until now Dragon Ball is the latest worst adaptation ever made to the movies. I hope that Spielberg can learn with Marvel and Dc how to adapt Tin Tin to the screen.

I'm pretty stoked for this! Two of my all-time favorite directors and a character I used to love when I was younger! Gonna be epic!!!

Not to mention that Pegg, Frost, and Wright all have a hand in this!
Epic-ness!!!

Awesome, Tin-Tin is great, and there are some really cool actors in the roles... This should be sweet.

Sorry, but Tintin is not a super hero...lol

Pegg and Frost as the Thompson Twins is great. Can't wait for this adaptation. It's a fun 2-parter, but I would have love to see Crystal Balls and Prisoners more. Oh well, maybe later. Since Jackson is involved, I think he may be able to keep Spielberg on the right track. Fingers crossed.

Thanks to those that commented on my comment.
I'm not against these articles, only wondering why they are associated with SUPERHEROhype and not CRAVEONLINE or some other branch of "coming soon to a theater near you" web-site. @Scott, your comment about Star Trek is absolutely right on. Why was that movie not "pumped" on this site when others so obviously are. I'm just wondering if this site is driven by revenue and if it's actually paid something by some of these movies that come out. They sure seem to "pimp" certain movies over others. I wonder what goes on behind the scenes is all I'm sayin'.
Posted by: Honest Fan on May 30, 2009 at 02:17:59
By the way,... my suggestion is that they change the name to "MOVIEhype" or something like that, if they aren't going to stick strictly to Superheroes. Last I looked, the "header" on this site is filled with the torsos of SUPERHEROES such as, Spider-Man, Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Fantastic Four, and a few others. I don't see the torsos of Sherlock Holmes, Preacher, G.I. Joe, Tintin, Pilgrim, or Hench. Call me a "fanboy" all you want, I'm just wonderin' if this is the site for pimpin' those particular movies???
Okay, I'll quit now.

I mean I'll quit right after my computer prints my same stupid message twice. Sorry.

Jamie Bell should play Jimmy Olsen.

Daniel Craig as Metallo
Andy Serkis as The Mad Hatter
Toby Jones as The Penguin

Don't know if you're still checking this thread, Honest Fan, but I think Comic Movie Hype might be the right moniker for this site, given that they seem to stick with comic book/graphic novel stuff, not fantasy or sci fi or other genre movies ... unless there's a comic book tie-in.
But I do sort of like the SHH abbreviation -- like "Quiet down, we've got something cool to tell you!" :-)

Any movie that brings together Nick Frost and Simon Pegg is on my must-see list.

guys,
YES this is SUPERHEROHYPE.com - yes we cover ALL manner of 'superhero' here - and the term superhero has broadened over the years that we have been doing the site - there are many actors such as Robert Downey Jr. that have been in Iron Man and now in Sherlock Holmes, we feature Holmes news items because of this crossover - and so on with others...
I'm sure if we DID NOT cover them the same people complaining now that we do would be the ones complaining that we don't!
For more in-depth coverage of other FILMS you can go over to ComingSoon.net - it is our sister site, and there you will also find a lot of cross-over'ing back and forth...
Be happy that there is such a site as SHH devoted to ALL superheroes!
